1. Am I being completely dim here... probably! ...but is this a Gibson copy?
2. It is a bit of a minefield because there isn't a universal exchange rate and some banks charge a set fee for exchange and/or a percentage. I had a 'mare a few years back when I sold a bass to a guy in Canada because we agreed on a price in £ sterling which he then converted (using an agreed conversion rate) to $ and paid me through paypal (splitting the paypal fees). We hadn't accounted for the fact that paypal absolutely extracted the urine with their conversion rate (which wasn't easy to establish at the time) and ended up having to renegotiate the price because he had set an upper limited in $ based upon the conversion rates that we had been using on-line. All sorted in the end but a pita to get right.
3. Worn, beat-up... this can be natural wear and tear over the years but generally if a bass has been "relic'd" it has been done unnaturally i.e. with sticks/stones and a belt/orbital sander. Some can look nice but you can go OTT and they look pants!
4. Top bass player, instructor and well deserved!
5. Do you have to use a screwdriver to adjust the octave strings?
6. I only ask if anyone has contact/knowledge of Jake as I have bought an expensive item from Jake which is not 'as described'! I've tried phoning, PMing and emailing him to no avail but would like to give him the chance to respond before I go further.
7. Does anyone have contact with Jake or know him personally?
8. Do you have pictures of your actual bass?
9. That Sterling wouldn't be called 'Rita' by any chance?
10. Excellent coverage... and the music IS good!
11. As above + to get the best from your intended set-up you are going to need a pair of 4ohm cabs as opposed to the more common 8ohm.
12. Single coil P bass pup. Vintage (not the 'hot' version) with b&w cloth coverings etc. New in the box, never fitted. £40 (+P&P)
13. Despite some of the sickly 'sweet' singles they were actually a great ROCK band! Listen to some of the album stuff and it's worlds apart from what you'd expect; try 'Someone Else Will' just don't play it when Granny or the kids are around.
14. Does your Sterling not have straplocks already installed? Straplocks come in various guises and the ones on my Sterling are the type that 'look' like a conventional pin (and you can use a strap on them) but they have a hollow shaft for the pin style Schaller strap button. re. the EQ - start flat on your bass by all means but there is nothing wrong with setting the bass anyway you like and then modifying the amp; there is no rule book that says you can't do it how you like (my Sterling sounds great with the bass and treble up full and the mid set flat... almost like a built in mid scoop/slap tone [though I don't slap ])
15. I bought a 10m DMX cable from this ebayer @ £10.21 inc delivery; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370395564666?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1026wt_1163 They arrived promptly and are marked on the cable sleeve as 'DMX' cable.
16. I just bought a DMX cable from this guy and @ £10 for 10m inc delivery that's cheap enough I reckon (it is printed on the rubber cable that it is DMX and not just a mic cable). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370395564666?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1026wt_1163
17. I have the first two Marseille albums in my collection somewhere... it always seemed odd at the time when I saw NB on those kids art programmes!
18.
I would like to know if a 300 Watt 8 ohm head would struggle to get a decent volume out of a 500 Watt 8 ohm cab? Only need it be loud enough for a 5 piece band practice and small/medium size gigs. I know under-powering is ok as long as you don't push the output to the point of saturation, just wanted to make sure that this would be loud enough for what I want, and not pushing both amp and cab to their limits. Cheers, Adam
What is the make of cab and what drivers does it have (1x15, 2x12, 4x10 etc) and tbh Adam, the most important bit of info is missing... the sensitivity of the cab! Essentially you'd be able to get about 200-250 watts out of the amp but that is just maths figures it doesn't tell you/us how loud your guitarists/drummer play and what PA support you have. More info needed and then most folks would still probably say "Give it a go and see".
19.
Hi guys ! Sorry - I totally missed the change in the email notification system. Previously I received an alert when a new message came in. So I was waiting for news but nothing appeared... All PMs will be replied in a few minutes... Thanks for your attention !
I thought there would be an easy answer!
20. I have sent 2 PMs re the OP's Sabre bass and no joy so far, I'd suggest that his inbox is full or there is a glitch in the system.
21. Did you receive my PMs re. weight and trades?
22. I should add that they are very light, compact and easy to use.
23. We/I use a pair of i-color-3 lights set to 'sound-to-light' and for pub gigs they are perfectly adequate. There are two sets available used locally; i-color 3 @ £120 and i-color 4 @ £150 so that gives an idea of used prices. Bulbs haven't gone in two years and if they do go they are relatively cheap. Not the best clip to demonstrate as one of the band set the sound to light with insufficient sensitivity (the 'flower' lights were the pubs but the general flood gives you an idea). 24.
Er... No expert on such matters ( I don't use FX) but I notice that setting a pitch-shifter back to "flat" gives an awesome semi-chorus. It reproduces the input note again with the delay caused by processing time. That'd give you the sound of the 2nd and 3rd courses, all you need is something (another pitch-shifter?) to give the octave "up" without too much latency (good luck with that at low pitches if not using midi!) Otherwise, the Variax has 8 and 12-string models (one of which is based on a Hagstrom IIRC) I was meddling with one in a music shop and put it onto the 12 string model and cracked out a well-delivered opening few bars of "Jeremy" That made a lot of people turn round! (not my intent! I was just trying it out!!)
Oddly enough I sold a Variax about 2 years ago... contacting the buyer to see if he has it only just yesterday.
25.
Going to Manchester, simply to see Cheap Trick.
I went to Glasgow... simply to see Cheap Trick! Loved the fact that CT's set was made up of all sorts of older stuff (+the obligatory IWYTWM) and it was a pleasure to hear TP's 12 string in the flesh so to speak. Deep Purple were OK but I was bored out of my tree with solos! Many, many years since I've been to a gig where EVERY band member did a solo spot (or two)... what is that all about. Enjoyed the old stuff but have to confess that the highlight was the classical bits and the fiddle/violin v guitar duel. Long live Cheap Trick.
