    I used to have far too many basses as a 'player' but I also considered myself a bit of a collector (so I could never have enough). Sold loads off a few years back and even now, though I have only 6 basses, I've got too many. I will be selling off 3 basses so that I'm down to my regular gigging bass, a back-up and a rare Ltd Ed which I can't bear to part with!

However, if it is only trades then I'd remove the sale option for now and just put up what you are interested in... though some people may still want a ball-park figure of the value to help them decide on a trade price!

    I might be a complete divvy... but I've only just seen the pics of the neck plate and the back of the headstock and I wasn't aware there was such a thing as 'Custom Shop Japan'! What's the story?

    If your cabs are both 8ohm it makes no difference to the amp if you connect each cab to the two outputs on the amp OR if you 'daisy chain' the cabs to each other and just have one connected to the amp (either way gives you a 4ohm load).

    Reputation System... where? what? I have to confess some folk have said they are running/uploading quicker, whereas I am significantly slower (other sites are as per normal, so just when I visit BC)!

    Lovely piece of timber. It must be one of the last Thumbs to have the carved rear headstock as I've tended to note that as the 2 piece bridge came in the carving went out (I've owned couple 89s that didn't have the carving and iirc an 88 that didn't, so I assume this may have sat in storage).

I would imagine that it depends on the age of the company producing the bass. 10 years back anything from the 80's would be 'vintage' and yet the basses would be potentially 20 year old... probably similar situation with the likes of Overwater etc. For me a vintage Fender is NOT going to be an 80's Fender!

Is there any other difference in terms of wood for the body and pre-amps etc or are they exactly the same?[/quote] The old LX were Cherry wood bodies then later maple (as per SSI) and again the preamps and pups were pretty much identical on the earlier basses and I doubt the later ones have changed other than in line with the parallel ranges.

Oh and Bottomendian did own it... but I had it before and after him! Oddly enough I advertised that bass on here and I got virtually no interest (I sold it for a LOT less than The Gallery bass) despite the pup installation being done at The Gallery and the bass having Nordstrands in it. If the bass had been a 1/2-1lb lighter I'd have most certainly kept it. Oh and well remembered about the pickguard cut-away Clarky.

For instance; there's no guarantee that an 89 will be any slimmer than a 91, though I tried a 93 (pre factory move) that was chunkier than my 90. However, saying all of that, the very earliest basses were categorically slimmer (82-86/87 though post 86/87 pre 95/96 basses are not generally big necks) BUT I'm not so sure that the 5 strings were as different in profile as the 4's! I'd certainly say try before you buy if you are thinking of trading and adding cash.

    Hmmm. They may well be nice basses but that's a damn silly way to sell them! The chances of somebody actually wanting a pair of Ray's is limited but to compound it they are Ltd Ed and he is asking top whack hence the outlay is a fair old wedge.
