5 Drawers
2 Cupboards
The Shed
The Garage
All full of crap.
Oh, I almost forgot, I’ve got a load of stuff stashed in my mother’s loft from when I moved house 4 years ago 😳
At some point I’ll have to face it and clear something out. Will probably start with the smallest drawer 😉
It makes sense to me if it prevents the jack plug from pulling out. Presumably a right-angled jack plug will allow the cable to route in the usual way?
Oh, that’s such a great job! I reckon you’ve pulled a rabbit out of a hat with that. A couple of mil here or there can make or break something like this. Glad you worked it out 👍
On reflection I think the strip is actually brass rather than copper. From I’ve been able to find out it was in use up to around ‘62 and presumably discontinued after that in favour of a ground wire routed through a hole. Jazz basses of that era were supplied with the huge ‘ashtray’ bridge cover which extended up to the bridge pickup and covered the strip so, aesthetically it wasn’t a problem and presumably easier to implement from a manufacturing point of view.
I don’t know the history but I have a MIJ 62 reissue Jazz bass which has a copper strip so that would suggest it’s a feature of that era (along with the threaded saddles on the bridge).
That’s quite an upgrade!
I couldn’t bring my self to stretch to the cost of the new Pro/Max models but from what I’ve read the M1 Air will be more than adequate for my modest needs.
That amp/cab on the left looks like a Peavey rig I had in the early eighties. It was a bit of lump to lug around and probably contributed to me stopping gigging at that time. After that, I loaned it to a “friend” who’d joined a band but didn’t have his own gear. I never saw it, or him again 😡
I just used a fret saw and then a flat file around the edges to add a bevel to match the existing one (well, when I say ‘match’ it’s an approximation. It doesn’t bear close scrutiny 😂 )
BTW this bass is strung with Adagio flats and now I’ve got it set up properly it plays flawlessly all the way up the neck. Coupled with a wiring loom from @KiOgon it sounds excellent. 🙂
That’s what I’m thinking too. I wonder how well it would actually fit a Precision because the mounting holes are not in the same place as a standard pick guard.
This is the one I made out of a mirrored pick guard:
Are you talking about a metal control plate à la jazz bass style but in a p shape?
I just went through this conundrum with my P-bass bitsa build but gave up trying to source one and ended up getting a mirrored pick guard and trimming it down. It wasn’t entirely successful as I’m a bit cack-handed when it comes to craft skills but it will do until a better alternative comes along. So, I can’t answer your question but I’m interested in the outcome.
I did think about contacting these guys but haven’t got around to it yet.

They seem oriented to normal plastic/acrylic/celluloid versions but might be able to do a metal one at a price.
