  1. Thanks for the recommendation. I’m just listening to this now. Really nice; haunting is a good description. 😊
  2. @WinterMute and @NancyJohnson Thanks, that's really helpful. 😊
  3. Just so that I understand correctly, are you saying it’s best to record the bass dry straight from a DI signal and then apply any treatment afterwards, including EQ? Also, what about compression, record with or without? (Just for reference, my previous recording experience goes back to the early 80s using 8 or 16 track analogue equipment and physical outboard gear etc., so some of the concepts that I understand may no longer apply In this new world of DAWs, VSTS an amp/cab sims etc.)
  4. I’ve never been drawn to Coldplay, probably for all of the reasons already mentioned. However, I did come across this cover version which I really liked and it was only much later that I discovered it was a Coldplay song. I prefer this to the original.
  5. Whilst I’m not averse to a bit of tort, I think black would work best with that colour body.
  6. I refer the honourable gentleman to earlier reply on this matter 😉
  7. This is my exact experience too! Fortunately I’ve since retired so I can permanently avoid the damn thing now.
  8. Would monitoring on headphones be a more reasonable way to achieve a consistent sound as this would remove any issues with speaker placement or room acoustics? Or does that present some other challenges?
  9. Here’s an interesting article on the history of dub: - https://www.masterclass.com/articles/dub-music-guide Keith Hudson gets a mention and he’s one of first dub artists I came across. His Pick A Dub and Brand albums are worth a listen. Lots of old school tape echo and spring reverb in evidence.
  10. I’m also thinking about this and will follow along with interest (also trying to stay away from going down the BC rabbit hole and spend more time learning, practicing and playing - that will be my new year’s resolution).
  11. Could you use the MacBook monitor and a separate external monitor to display different bits of the Logic interface? If so, I think that might be sufficient for my limited needs.
  12. Repeated from earlier in the thread: https://hazeguitars.com/blog/the-perils-of-bad-neck-shims and also this: https://hazeguitars.com/blog/neck-shimming-and-ski-jumps-the-latest-research
  13. Ha! Our luthier friend features at 5:40. The reviewer confirms what we already know.
  14. The Pro Display XDR is £4.6k ! 😱 What other monitor options are that would give the Retina experience for a more reasonable cost?
  15. This is on Reverb. If it wasn’t in the US I’d be wondering if it might be the output of our luthier friend.
  16. I’ve been having a good look at this (just out of interest). It looks pretty good and the seller sounds genuine. The only thing I was wondering was that the volume pot doesn’t look original but I’m not sure that’s a deal-breaker. Sounds like he’d be open to reasonable offers too. If it’s what you’re after then a road trip wouldn’t be unreasonable IMHO (You could spend some time in the Lakes too, which is a nice place to visit 🙂).
  17. It would be ideal for someone in a 70s Glam tribute band.
  18. I think a Mac mini is a good way in to the M1 world if you already know that a desktop solution is enough for you. If recording is the main focus then this is almost certainly the case. I went for the Air because I like having a portable device for other reasons but I’ll probably add an external monitor, keyboard and mouse at some point to give me the best of both worlds. A large hi-res monitor would be better for using Logic.
