  1. My NUX MP-2 Mighty Plug arrived today. When I came home from work just now, within a couple of minutes I’d opened it, plugged it in, plugged my headphones in, turned it on and WOW! Immediately impressive; good level, very quiet noise-wise and the initial setting had reverb on which sounded clear and clean. My first impression is that it’s very good and much better than the Vox; virtually noiseless in comparison. Now I need to get the app and figure out all settings and features. So far, so good. I’m very happy.
  2. I bet people who bought Fullerton reissues in the early 80s are expecting them to appreciate strongly over the next couple of decades. I’d love to buy one if I could find the right one. I wonder what today’s equivalent of a future Fullerton would be?
  3. Has anyone tried the Fender Mustang headphone amp (for guitar) with a bass?
  4. This thread has got me thinking about the short-comings of The Vox headphone Amp so I’ve just pulled the trigger on the NUX MP2 Mighty Plug from Amazon. It will be delivered tomorrow. 🙂
  5. Hey Paul, I have an Alesis keyboard which came with a downloadable software bundle which I’ve not used and don’t need as I have Logic. If you want I can dig out the URL and serial number and send it you if you want.
  6. Just use a Sharpie. That’s what the best luthiers out there do. 😂
  7. Interesting that it’s not loud enough on the highest setting. I have mine on the middle setting all the time and it’s plenty, the green level is too much. This is just with P-Bass pickups of varying types/ages. The hiss is very pronounced and I just try and ignore it. for sure there are better products out there.
  8. The Vox headphone amp has three output level settings. When you press and hold the power button to turn it on, it will return to the previously used level. Pressing the button again will cycle through each level and the LED will change colour, red for the lowest output level, amber for the middle setting and green for the highest output. This may be why you’re not getting enough volume? You’re right that it’s quite noisy, I just roll of the tone as I don’t mind the reduced top end. Another headphone amp I came across recently is the NUX MP2 Mighty Plug which, from what I can gather is a much better product. I’ve not tried it I think other BCers have and might be able to share their experience.
  9. It’s nice, but the wrong colour for me I’m afraid. BTW what’s the difference between the 414 and the 350? Is it just the reverse P pickup on the 350 and does that make much difference compared to the normal p arrangement?
  10. I think there may be a difference between Squier and Fender neck sizes. I had a MIM Fender licenced neck but it was a couple of mm too wide to fit a Squier neck pocket. I guess they do this to make it harder to turn Squiers into Fenders just by swapping out the neck without doing some adjustment work.
  11. It’s got a BIN price of £220 and it seems like a lot of bass for the money, but from what I can gather they can range from £160ish up to £220 tops. I might just put a speculative bid in for it. Anyone got any suggestions on its value?
  12. Oooh, it’s only 15 minutes down the road from me. I’ve always been tempted by BBs, especially black ones, but never taken the plunge. Oh dear, I don’t need another bass, what should I do?
  13. I have both a Zoom B1-4 and a Vox bass headphone amp. The Vox is not as versatile as the Zoom and is a bit noisy but it’s very convenient. I just leave it plugged into the bass I’m currently favouring, pick it up, plug in headphones and off I go. It has an aux input too.
  14. Was just about to say exactly this. Effects and amp modelling, with an aux input will take you a long way.
  15. You could view it in the same way as vintage cars that need new tyres from time to time. As long as the replacements are period and specification correct and prevents it from becoming dysfunctional, then that has to be a good thing I would say.
  16. I’d be tempted to colour-in the gap with a sharpie. Or, less destructive, perhaps stick a carefully trimmed piece of black electrical tape under the pick guard?
  17. Should amps be labelled “may contain electricity” just so everyone knows they may be dangerous?
  18. An interesting idea I read somewhere a while ago suggested that if eBay extended the auction for a couple of minutes from the last bid before the end time and for every subsequent bid after that, it would prevent last minute sniping and allow the seller to achieve the best possible price. This how live auctions work and the bidding keeps going until everyone has really reached their maximum. That seems like it would be much fairer to me. Edit: only just seen the previous post and now see this idea has been mentioned. I hadn’t realised the thread had spilled over to a new page before replying. 😉
  19. Yeah, it’s lovely. it’s a dangerous thing looking at vintage stuff on Reverb. Whilst I was having a look I saw an immaculate 1960 sunburst for just short of £15k. Fortunately it’s out of my league both financially and on the “I don’t deserve it” fronts. 😂
  20. Looks like the name adds about a £5k premium.
  21. The company I work for uses SAP Concur for paying expenses. I used it once and then steadfastly avoided doing anything that involved claiming expenses again. They also use a system called Coupa for managing supplier payments which is a total pile of crap, completely unintuitive and almost unusable. Systems like these are a PITA.
  22. I’ve also got the Adagio flats on my bitsa p bass and they’re great. A really warm smooth sound with the tone rolled off a bit. Having said that, I think the KiOgon wiring loom with 1uF cap is a contributory factor.
