  1. Took a couple of days, but have now watched it all. Fantastic, really enjoyed it. In particular enjoyed getting to the period when drummer (and additional singer) Fliss Kitson joined (2011 I think). Seems like she has totally revitalised the band! (Or as Stewart Lee put it after noting her taxidermy hobby - "do you have an inclination to preserve things that would otherwise have rotted away?") Big fan of Fliss πŸ‘
  2. Cheat!
  3. I remember getting a youtube suggestion (after looking at the Shaggs) for a band who formed with specific intention of recreating The Shaggs records exactly as played...... in order to back the Shaggs singers comeback. Complete with all the off time playing. It was pretty hard work for them to do it as you can imagine. In the clip they interviewed the lead arranger for the band. When asked about the Shaggs singers musicality she gave understatement of the year "I don't think she hears rhythm".
  4. The last 30 mins? You'd have really disliked the earlier incarnations of the band then!
  5. I'd say not. I normally practice for my covers band on a "don't let the other guys down at rehearsal/gig" basis.
  6. Excellent! So do you remember the King Kong statue?
  7. He was probably painting it black πŸ˜€
  8. This is pretty much a matter of personal preference. When a bar is fitted to a bass, a lot of players remove it. Then some players have one fitted on a bass which doesn't have it. I think most use it as a thumb rather than palm rest.
  9. This thread is going to wreck my Youtube suggestions. Thanks a bunch πŸ˜„!
  10. On a Facebook thread for "worst cover" yesterday somebody nominated this. I replied to back them up, but went further and said it was the worst piece of music ever, cover or not. So I guess I need to put my money where my mouth is and put it here.
  11. Great. I've only recently woke up to having Sky arts on Freeview - via a Basschat thread. Good idea of yours to include the repeat time too!
  12. Exactly my thoughts on films - glad I'm not the only one. Of course there are some good ones!
  13. It's not really something that applies to me. I'm more "find one that will do and stick with it"!
  14. We have forgotten about wired connections. In fact nearly all people I know use the term "WIFI" synonymously with "the internet" I'm not sure I'm in a position to run a wire to where I need it, but you've got me thinking!
  15. I listen mainly to music which isn't made by session musicians, so not in a good position to suggest any. But I guess the big session musicians most of us know tend to get recognised (outside of the industry) retrospectively - after they have amassed a body of work to get recognised for.
  16. Robert Lloyd is is not all that well known, but was singer in Birmingham punk band the Prefects, post-punk band the Nightingales and later solo career. Stewart Lee has made this documentary. I think it was intended for a cinema release, but now it's straight to TV. Tonight at 9pm. Worth watching by all accounts even if you are not a fan. I have ticket for The Nightingales.... just waiting for the Covid-delayed show to happen.
  17. Same - I don’t watch enough TV to justify subscription.
  18. Thanks for the info........ recorder set (I won't be able to watch this at peak viewing time!)
  19. I record quite a lot, normally in a solo style, writing, singing, playing and recording - as many on here do. I find it really hard to be objective - so in a way the recording does lie to me: On one listen I'll think "Wow, this is brilliant" and another listen I'll think "God, this is rubbish" I guess the the truth is somewhere between.... but where?
  20. The bloke running the fake Sham 69 (Tim Vee) seems like a real twunt. I respect that you don't share the details of a private conversation, otherwise I'd love to hear those comments!
  21. The trouble with Hong Kong Garden is that you feel like learning another tune after an hour πŸ˜ƒ.
  22. Great tune to start out with!
  23. Ty Segal - "Twins" album from a couple of years ago. Here's two tracks (well it is called Twins)
  24. Yes, there a lot of bass-centric songs written on Bass (or starting with a bassline) but not so many people who use the bass to write songs where the bass is not prominent. I get the impression that even bass-playing songwriters like Sting write on 6 string or piano and only pick up a bass when they take the song to the band. As previously stated, Reg Presley of the Troggs is an example: wrote on bass, even though the band had a bass player and they were not bass-centered songs.
