  1. similar for me.... you could name a whole bunch of Cure singles which I think are a great song, yet I have no inclination to get any further into their albums. That goes for both the 'alt' and 'pop' periods - if I can split their career like that!
  2. Slightly off topic, but Lol Tolhurst’s autobiography is a good read. Sad in parts of course.
  3. I read someone (I think in the band) quipping that Lol Tolhurst was seen in a bass shop getting ready to try out for the bass role.
  4. As per some of the other posters, they didn’t fit my punk credentials, but I sneakily liked a few of their songs. Good to hear they still put on a good show.
  5. Do we have a new 'Sex On Fire'? I hope not, I haven't finished hating the old one yet.
  6. I use Studio One and it’s fine. I got it bundled with some hardware otherwise I don’t know what I’d use.
  7. I’ve done all mine in MS Word. Used snips of photos and shapes with text mainly. The “bring to front” and transparency features were useful.
  8. Well, I've taken the plunge. 5 minutes after the above post I downloaded the trial version of Melodyne, and been playing with it since. Pretty good...... just need to see if the features I need are contained in the basic (i.e. cheap) version.
  9. Sparks and Franz Ferdinand combined forces a few tears ago. The two bands had a complimentary instrumental line up, so fitted together OK. I can't remember what it sounded like though! They went by the mildly amusing moniker of FFS. I think it was the bass player who came up with it.
  10. Seems only to be pop music that has that age profile….. other arts like painting or books seem to not be age constrained.
  11. I’ve never used auto tune. I guess I’m old fashioned and also it’s not available in my DAW (Studio One). However Studio one does partner with Melodyne and there is a trial version available…… so I’m considering it!
  12. Yes I’d like to hear it too!
  13. Does not matter if you can’t play piano. It won’t help you find good bass sounds for a start. Just keep your bass brain switched on and think of some good lines and work out the fingering your own way. Good luck!
  14. A lot of singing ability is about letting your inner singer out. I guess alcohol can help with that. If your inner singer is already out the alcohol will make you worse.
  15. I'm sure that's what Lemmy would have wanted ........😀
  16. Mine had a nice picture😉
  17. Here's Lemmy/Motorheads own acoustic version, recorded for a beer advert a few years back. The ad itself had video of the performance too - IIRC.
  18. Basically a straight cover, but good fun, and much better than I expected. I found this on youtube a few days ago - Vice Squad, who are a bit more metal these days it seems. The drummer certainly seems to be enjoying herself.
  19. I think there is some redundancy in your set up and you could do it more simply. I think the main options have already been mentioned above …. I would follow one of those. Good luck with the jam, hope you get what you want from it.
  20. Andy should get the same acclaim as Johnny Marr IMO
  21. On the plus side I was quick as a flash to figure out that Johnny Fingers name was because he was a piano player 😉
  22. I like the Smiths, but not enough to post them in threads like this. Morrisey's solo material is not so great.
  23. I think the Dog Faced Hermans qualify as post-punk, even though a bit later than the first wave, more like Sugarcubes time. Although much lesser know than the Sugarcubes. Here is their best known song (although not representative IMO except the last minute or so) 'Beautiful', plus one of my personal (more representative IMO) faves 'Ballon Girl'
  24. Yes…. I knew from about 1979 that he was called Pete Briquette. I also knew that the Rats were Irish and I knew that peat was used as a fuel in Ireland. I didn’t know that peat was sold in brickets. The penny dropped a couple of years ago!
  25. True….. and it only took me about 40 years to realise the joke😊
