1. what's with all the artsy B&W shots then???
 2. Garfield? surely you mean Bagpuss...
 3. actually... if it's got 5 strings, then it's a V950B VF950B if fretless... I have one myself... cleaned up very nicely and I upgraded the tuners and bridge as well... ps. the body is Bubinga, NOT Mahogany...
 4. a Bb7 chord has a root note of Bb... (and is refered to a a Bb Dominant 7th) (alternative name Bb dom7) and has the notes Bb, D, F, Ab (Steps: 1-3-5-b7) It is NOT a root note of B with a flatted 7th, that would be written as a B7 (alternative name B dom7) which has the notes B, D#, F#, A (Steps: 1-3-5-b7)
 5. If I can get away to it, I plan to bring my Tangle Acoustic bass and my Squier VMJ.
 6. Any idea what the bassist from Easy Star All Stars was playing on? It had an absolutely awesome tone for dub reggae... my pitiful little digital camera microphone completely fails to do it justice in this youtube I uploaded from the concert a month ago... 7. what IS the problem? If it sounds good then it's a result...
 8.
I have a muck around with various tunes and throw some "shapes". But what gets right up my ti*s is no matter what time you go into the guitar shop there is always a group of 13 year olds playing an Ibanez or similar pointy thing, murdering some trivium or metalica. They play for 2 mins (all they can play for) and then their mates talk about how awsome the playing/guitar was. And just when you think that it`s over, they give it to another one of their mates!! Yes I am a grumpy old bas*ard!! Jez
ha ha... throwing shapes... you'd think they'd put mirrors in the shops so you can see how they "hang"... anyroad... I just play some blues standards (Thrill is gone, Killing Floor, Born Under a Bad Sign, some standard blues box patterns...) some "walking" around... kick it up a notch with some Zepp and/or Cream.... followed by some Hendrix... some scales and then go hunting for dead spots if I haven't noticed anything yet... I don't normally slap, but if someone else is in there and has done some truly awful slap, then I let rip just to show it can be done properly...
 9.
LAST BUMP BEFORE REMOVAL. TO GET SOMETHING NEW LIKE TIS WOULD COST WELL OVER £800.
yes, I know... I'm in love with it... sadly, I can't scrape up the readies... PS. ALL CAPITALS IS CONSIDERED TO BE SHOUTING AND IS FROWNED UPON IN FORUMS...
 10.
when you have an obsession with keeping your fingernails short
Oh so true... I've just removed the acrylics off my right hand fingers... I was having fun playing acoustic guitar fingerstyle, but while they were on, I couldn't play my bass fingerstyle...
 11. http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq4.htm
61. Why does Band-in-a-Box generate notes below low E (E2) on a bass? You can set the lowest bass note in the Opt. | Preferences | Arrange dialog. If you have set your lowest bass note to E2, which is the default setting, Band-in-a-Box will not play any bass notes below E2, with one exception: Band-in-a-Box occasionally produces a short low bass note (usually an octave below the root) to simulate a muted bass note on the third triplet of a walking bass line. These short notes don't get displayed in notation, but do get played.
don't personally have the version you have... I'm still running an old version I bought ten years ago... so in the above it would appear you have to set your lowest Bass note to B2 to use those few notes below E2
 12.
Ugly as hell! Get a load of this toad: Yuk!
that's a good example of how not to wind strings onto the machine heads... there's not enough turns on the posts for a start and it just ruins the look of an expensive bass having bits of wire going off in all directions... rather like guitarists who don't cut their strings properly and have little coils up there getting in the way... meh...
 13.
Stupid question time. If you defret the neck, what do you do about all thin gaps left by the missing bits?
use thin strips of wood glued into the slots and then cut and sanded down flush with the fretboard
 14. I have the 5 string version... nice bass, but the B string leaves a lot to be desired...
 15.
If you arent sure about fretless and want to dip a toe then get yourself down to your local Crack Converters (or similar) and pick up a cheap P-Bass copy for 50-60 quid and defret it. Its relatively easy and if you completely bugger it up then little has been lost. I did this to a Peavey Milestone 3 and slapped some Roto flats on it. Loving playing it now
I've been about to do this to my old Encore P-bass clone for the last three years... it has effectively no current resale value (I'd only get £30 if lucky taking it to cack-converters anyway)
 16. I use a Boss Micro-BR. It allows you to play along to MP3s or backing tracks you've laid down yourself... has built in drum patterns and effects (mainly guitar oriented). One big advantage is being able to slow down MP3s without the pitch being affected. I also use the output of my Zoom B2.1U as it automatically adjusts to drive headphones when it senses them in the circuit rather than an amp input.
 17.
Good break there then. I always thought that you flyboys got around all that beurocracy. I suppose things have changed since my grandads time though OT... here's a thought, if say someone was to take a £10 piece of ebay firewood and come back with something rather special, would the customs people cotton on?
I think you're supposed to use a Carnet to take it into the other country and back out... http://www.uscib.org/index.asp?documentID=1843 not sure what HM Customs do to you when returning with it though... Carnet FAQ http://www.uscib.org/index.asp?documentID=1675
How specific do the descriptions need to be on the General List? The more specific the better, as customs has the right to stop goods from entering its border for lack of adequate description. Include serial numbers or model numbers whenever possible. An imprecise or incomplete description may cause a customs inspector to question the importation (or re-exportation) and possibly seize the goods.
we use them at work when doing site visits to other countries to declare items such as laptops, cameras, phones
 18. Impro-Visor free, cross platform (Java), so will run on Linux, Windows and OSX drawback is you have to join the Yahoo group in order to download it. http://www.cs.hmc.edu/~keller/jazz/improvisor/ http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/impro-visor/ big drawback is it doesn't do repeats... apparently that's on their to-do list
 19.
So I was in the States and stumbled across this in Guitar Center. I just had to bring it home [...] Cheers Pete
ha ha... at least it was easy for you bringing it back home... one of our guys bought an old brit motorbike and shipped it back on the hercules while he rode back in the VC10. They had to jettison the pallets when the herc ran into difficulties... he was most displeased when he heard it had been pushed out the back somewhere over the channel
 20. Tuxguitar (a Guitar pro clonealike) will import Midi and display the various parts all on their own staves. here's a grab of the result of importing dazed and confused in from Midi (note, I had to make a minor change to the bass staff as it assumes all staves are treble until told otherwise) and a grab of the print preview of the bass track tuxguitar is cross platform (runs on Java on windows, Linux and OSX) open source and completely free http://www.tuxguitar.com.ar/ (I'm running v1.0 on Linux... not tried v1.1 yet only just noticed it's available)
 21.
It's just a shame because I was really looking forward to this gig. Well, specifically I was looking forward to playing with this particular drummer, but I guess that ship has sailed. S.P.
you could see if you could sit in with whichever band she does actually get for the gig
 22.
In fact I can't find any of my listings on Ebay right now. Whenever I go into them they either show as being removed or technical difficulty. I've emailed Ebay and if they've removed them I will be seeking mucho recompense as everything I'm selling is due to finish on Sunday
they're still there you've got eight items up. one finishes today (the .1uF caps) and the rest on Sunday http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/delberthot...armrsZ1QQ_fromZ
 23. is that a real valve lurking in there?
 24.
How comes I always end up "finishing myself off" over the Peterson website then?
it's a "Strobe Tuner"... not a "Stroke Tuner"...
 25.
2. A rehearsal is a live situation, so you need a soundcheck. You have to make sure the drums sound right, and then the bass with the drums, and then each guitar with the bass and drums, and then lastly the vocals. Don't rush it, take your time, really listen to what's going on. A good balance now will save your ears and make you sound so much better. And soundcheck here is not just "how loud", but also "does it sound good". A guitar on its own needs good bass to fill the bass end. But in a band, there's already a guy playing bass - so maybe you can turn your bass control down a bit? Hey yeah, the sound is clearer, and I sound louder! Magic!
oh dear... that is so hard to get guitarists to do... turning the bass down on their rigs...
