Really? more accurate than a strobe tuner that can tune to accuracy within 1/10th of a cent and is more than 30 times more accurate than LED / Needle Tuners. Don't be silly. Have another look..............
he said ON A BUDGET... I can just about justify spending £60 odd on a tuner, But NOT £160 odd
  2.
Piggin Ek ! Brilliant is that ! We've just formed a Wishbone Ash Tribute band as well. It never dawned on me just how good Martin Turner was until I had to learn some of his Bass parts. Man, he's brilliant and well under rated. Thanks for posting that.
not only that... he plays with a pick as well... totally disproving the stupid saying that real bassists only play with their fingers...
  3.
It has an mp3 mode, you can convert multitrack recordings in it to mp3, put mp3's on it and record directly or via mic in mp3 mode, its a good little tool, lots of drums too.
not many bass friendly effects patches though... there's a limit on how many MP3s you can put on it and the track display only displays the first five characters of a filename with the next three being numbers if the filenames are the same over the first eight characters (remember old DOS filenames in Win95) so you find yourself having to rename them to make them easier to find. It doesn't play subdirectories so it's difficult to arrange things to find them easily, you have to scroll through the entire contents of the MP3 directory to find the one you want. Playback... annoying lack of a repeat button, to repeat an MP3, you have to use the A & B buttons while the track is playing to set the start and end point of what you want to repeat, OK if you want to repeat a phrase, but not if you just want the whole track on auto repeat. SD cards, yeah, it uses them... and doesn't have internal RAM for storage. It can only use sizes up to 2G and these will only get harder to find!!! PS. I'm not sure if the new ones have had their firmware upgraded to handle larger SD cards or extra MP3 playback functionality.
  4.
damn was that the date set for world domination? haha Z x
nah... just some ground shaking as Avalanche do a rehearsal... I'm a part time student of Steve's...
  5. "The Bass backlights perfect, no issues"??? whut??? if he's talking about blacklighting, then a refin will show no issues... duh... anyroad, If I'd been the original owner, then when ordering the custom finish, I'd have had the headstock match...
  6.
Yamaha and Peavey now SOLD, pending the usual! Schecter still available.
if they're both sold, then perhaps you should edit your first post to say this

    Ramps

or just fill in the gaps with pickups... he don't need any poncy ramp... mind you, there's room for another pickup there...
  8.
So, without sounding truly dense... How does the vibration from the strings get into the body then?
the strings are anchored at the bridge, the bridge is attached to the soundboard (upper face). The vibration of the strings is therefore transferred through the bridge to the soundboard which is where most of the sound comes from. The soundhole is so the vibrating air inside the body can help transfer energy to the outside. When you're using a pickup, the amplified sound gets into the bass via the soundhole and causes the soundboard to vibrate and this is picked up by the pickup and subsequently fed back round the amplification loop. A soundhole cover cuts down on the sound getting back into the bass. It also makes the bass acoustically quieter, but your using the pickup anyway.
  9. I run my acoustic bass through a Zoom A2.1U and use the feedback killer function. When I get feedback, I just engage the killer and it automatically finds the offending frequency and notches it out. The Zoom also has some nice effects which I find useful when mixed in in moderation.
  10. and for them's whose budgets don't stretch to a genuine Fender, there's always the good old Squier Vintage Modified Jazz note, them knobs ain't the original equipment... that control plate assy is off a Geddy Lee that someone pulled to stick an Audere in.
  11. Horace goes Skiing... one of my favourite games... wore out my tape on my Spectrum, luckily had a game saving box so was able to back it up onto microdrive...
  12. I use a standard 4 string bass and my Zoom b2.1u. I make extensive use of the pitch shifting function and set patches up so I can quickly go from standard tuning to BEAD with a simple patch change. We also change keys on the fly to suit the singers and/or congregation and so I just set a patch up for the song with the pitch shifted up or down however many semitones are needed and carry on playing normally using the sheet music given letting the Zoom do the transposing. I find there's an ever so slight delay in the transposed notes, but no-one else notices as I adjust my playing to pluck ever so slightly ahead of the beat to compensate.

I've got LaBella black nylon tapewounds on mine.
  14. I'm sure I saw a thread in here about that same bass last time it came up on eBay some 18 months ago... the photos look strangely familiar...
  15.
* There is no good and bad Asparagus
I like Asparagus... unfortunately it makes my urine smell weird afterwards...
  16.
And a large number of Hendrix's contemporaries in rock were ex-jazz players anyway. Dick Heckstall-Smith's autobiography "Blowing the British Blues" is interesting on the 60s migration of young musicians from jazz to R&B, and the problems that caused for jazz.
Hendrix was moving the other way into Jazz when he died... sadly, he was sick and tired of going through the motions on stage to satisfy the promoters and punters who just wanted to see him do the tired old play behind his back and set light to the guitar pyrotechnics...
  17. he's asking £180 for the tuners off that bass... 18.
I prefer Dean Gray
that be the definitive mashup... anyway... it's now fashionable to hate Green Day purely because they've been around for so long and have become part of the "establishment"... and as for grown men dressing up like 14 year old schoolboys... where does that put AC DC?
  19.
In your case, kudos to your guitarists for being big enough to let you help.
I think it helps that they know he knows guitar and isn't just a jumped up bassist telling them what to do...
  20. keep the noise down, you could end up with an ASBO like this couple did... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...e-25-times.html
The couple’s partially deaf neighbour Margery Ball said she had not had a decent night’s sleep in two years because of the noise made by the couple. As well as being given an Asbo, Mrs Cartwright was yesterday fined £200 with £300 costs. She was taken to court after Environmental Health officers placed recording equipment in the flat next door to her house in Concord, Tyne and Wear. Her neighbour, Rachel O’Connor, pressed a button on the machine every time she was disturbed by noise from next door.
21. tuners, bridge, pickups, control pots... although you'd never get back the money spent on those upgrades, you'd get valuable experience in fettling your bass... With the amount of money you'd have to put out for decent components, you might be better off watching the for sale section and pouncing on a second hand real Fender Jazz when one comes up...
  22. back in '78, I took the clunker '69 P-Bass my cousin had given me and hand painted it with gloss white paint to look like Sid's bass... couldn't afford a brand new white bass.
  23. I run my Tanglewood via my Zoom A2.1U to the house PA using the DI out and also a small monitor arrangement for myself using a practice amp pointed up at my ears... I use the Zoom purely because of the handy "silent" tuner and the feedback killing function where I can kill feedback automatically by pressing a footswitch. I use the other effects on the Zoom very sparingly. The Tanglewood can be loud, but from the playing position, it's hard to hear when everyone else is playing as the sound is quite directional out the front...
