1. I'm just amazed at the height of that action... you could limbo under them strings... PS. I bought a cheap 5 string bass off Ebay a year ago... needed one in a hurry... wasn't bad for a made in China no-name bass... all it needed was proper strings to replace the floppy ones it came with... and a minor adjustment to the truss rod and it did the job... Tuners and bridge have since been upgraded using ones off the V950B I bought later... so technically I did buy cheap, buy twice... but I knew what I was getting into...
2.
This is all original...its only had 3 owners including me.its been looked after immensly..clean as a whistle..its worth far more but i need a quick sale...its a beauty and is killing me to have it up for sale. but needs must...
you have a weird definition of MINT... there's obvious finish checking on the headstock... and the tuners are all tarnished...
3. Personally I believe Fender make too many different basses & guitars, and that they should reduce the ranges they carry... They should retire a lot of the signature basses... the Sting one for certain... (keep the bass though, just dump the Stinglay) Just did a count of the current range 19 artist model Basses 28 artist model Electric Guitars
4.
BIMM bands? I understand the transient part:-)
BIMM Brighton or Bristol (delete as appropriate) Institute of Modern Music It's part of the curriculum for certain courses that students must form a band and perform in public... thus the large number of transient bands which form for a few weeks and perform for free basically thus depressing the market for proper bands as they have trouble getting in to venues when the promoters can get bands for free or even get them to do pay-to-play... plus there are end of term/course showcase gigs for just "BIMM" bands...
5.
Err, how exactly do I go about applying enamel? The golden rule is: Is it something likely to stress out the wife if I do it in the kitchen? Toasted: It's for my mark II A/B/Y box, also for better truss rod cover lettering for the Lemonbacker. I think the 'bake in oven' step is divorce-territory.
what are you, a man or a mouse?
6. my set of Rotosound SM77 Jazz flats are ageing very nicely... now on their third bass... definitely getting better with the passage of time... I play blues and blues rock (zepp, cream, ZZ Top, Hendrix)
7. Steve Harris puts a fresh set on for every gig... could you afford to do that??? Flats are supposed to be left on and "mellow" with age... they're not supposed to have a hard bright edge to them...
8. looks like a very complicated specialist diving rig to me... Heliox? I just love the technical adjustment tool lying next to it... very few things will resist a technical tap from that...
9. all right... I admit it... Hannah Montana - Best Of Both Worlds Concert DVD... My granddaughter loves her... and I'm trying hard to learn how to play the songs so she can sing along with me...
10. Led Zep 1, II, III, IV & Physical Grafitti all on heavy rotation... did you know Led Zep I was 40 years old!?!?!?!?! released Jan 12th 1969 still sounds as fresh as the day it was made...
11.
I guess its the only way to guarantee someone won't try to put the wrong voltage/polarity/current into their stompbox. I prefer to use the multi ones you can get in maplins with a load of different sized plugs and phase reversal if you need it, much more flexible for powering a multitude of different appliances
I find the regulation on those is dicey to say the least... and the ripple current leaves a lot to be desired... big source of mains hum if the pedal manufacturer hasn't taken it into account and has expected a good quality power supply to be used... I'm a bit confused on the legal side though... I thought it was an EU regulation that all supply sockets on equipment had to be marked with a symbol giving the supply requirements including polarity and voltage. Boss ones just seem to get away with marking them with their own proprietary power supply id..

14.
Hi guys does anyone get frustrated when posting a ad on the forum to see it disappear within a few hours by posts being bumped or bumparood or bumparama or a midday bump or a bump for a nice guy or a great avatar etc ive seen items bumped several times a day! Would a @ least 24 hr bumping rule be a good idea to give all posts/ads a fair crack?
which forum view? the view new posts view or the actual relevant for sale sub forum? a bump should only be to bring it back into view on the first page of the relevant sub-forum, NOT the view new posts first page... a bump in all fairness, shouldn't be done until both: 1) it is no longer on the first page of the particular sub-forum 2) more than 2 days since the last post in that thread... I personally would like to see bumps reduced in frequency to no more than 1 bump in a week
15. got it... went down the shop this evening... had a play on the SX strat and found it did the business and the price was right... £99 got me a white strat with strap, real gig bag, electronic tuner, bag of picks, starter DVD and a 10 Watt practice amp... Have serious doubts about the claimed 10 Watts... the power consumption figure is give as 12 W... no amp is that efficient... I suspect it's really 10 Watts Peak Program Power rather than RMS... probably really only 3 Watts RMS.
16.
waynepunkdude joe strummer used a tele punk as you can get in the mainstream style
Muddy Waters, Steve Cropper all play Teles... Jimi Page played a tele on the early Zep albums before getting diverted by the Gibson... anyway... the local shops haven't got a telecaster in my price range... I've seen an SX strat starter pack for £99 in the shop... this one: http://benfleet.abcmusic.co.uk/product.php/32596/154/ although as it there in the local shop, I can try it and don't have to pay P&P or wait... Will be trying it out on Friday otherwise it's wait a couple of months more to save up some more and just start playing some of those more expensive teles they do have in the shop until I find one that feels right...
17. first bass was a hand-me-down beat up '69 P-Bass my cousin gave me... This was back in '77 before prices for old basses went stupid and back then, the old bass was seen as a bit of a clunker by him... I went slightly nuts and painted it with white gloss paint so it looked like Sid's P bass because I couldn't afford a new Olympic White one...
18. and I've got the gas for a Telecaster Guitar as a result... Picked up my daughter's Encore electric guitar over the break and I've been playing it more than my basses... I've had so much fun going back to stuff I used to do... power chords, blues licks... It's so much easier now having been playing bass... I now know where the notes are and what I'm doing rather than just blindly repeating licks out of a guitar magazine... I can come up with my own and they sound good as well...
19. Warwick strings come individually vacuum packed... At least the ones I last bought were...
20.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm thinking a drum machine is the way to go as most have a metronome facility built in, so best of both worlds. Another dumb question, can I play it through my bass amp, or would I need some other kind of amplification?
I run my Alesis SR-16 drum machine or the output from my computer based drum machine (Hydrogen) through my practice amp using the CD input socket on my amp... If you don't have a CD input on your amp, then you'll need a mixer to mix your bass and the drum machine inputs with before your amp. My Zoom B2.1U makes things slightly easier as the Zoom has a built-in Drum machine, although the patterns are limited and not editable
21. if you're doing it right, then you won't hear the clicks of the metronome anyway unless you leave the odd note out for space...
22.
What is meant by “loud” ? Most of the experts agree that anything over 85 dB is loud and anything over 90 dB is very loud. Any sound over 140 dB is classed as very dangerous and can cause instantaneous damage to hearing. Does that mean if the SPL is more than 85 dB, everyone must have ear protectors? Not necessarily. Hearing damage is dependent on the exposure time as well as the level of noise. The louder the noise, the shorter the time in which hearing damage can occur. On the right is a link to a useful chart. Below are some examples. SPL Max. daily exposure (At Risk) Max. daily exposure (High Risk) Less than 85 dB no limit no limit 90 dB 2.5 Hours no limit 95 dB 45 minutes 2.5 hours 100 dB 15 minutes 45 minutes 110 dB 1.5 minutes 5 minutes So for example, a piece of machinery producing 90 dB SPL is only operational for 1 hour a day, it does not pose a risk to hearing. What do you mean by “At Risk”? If the “At Risk” exposure times are exceeded, then there is a possibility of hearing damage. The following actions need to be taken by the employer. Measure noise levels at least every 2 years or when there is a significant change to noise levels or exposure times. Make sure the records of these are kept. Advise the members of staff who are affected about the risks to their hearing and tell how to minimise this. Make hearing protection available to those who ask for it. Show staff on how to use and maintain these properly. If possible, use noise reduction equipment to reduce noise at source. What if there are short bursts of noise, say from a riveting machine or a gun at a firing range? If these bursts of noise greater than 140 dB, then this is considered a “High Risk” situation. If I remember correctly when we drove 9" interference fit bolts into wing root joints it would hit 140dB, we had to re-engineer the process and damp the airframe to reduce resonance - even wearing ear protectors it was damn loud but the period of exposure was very short. I think we got down to 133dB in the end. A 70dB threshold in this context, even with prolonged periods of exposure an employee might experience, seems ludicrous, I swear one of my colleagues hits 85dB sitting working on their own in our office!
we had a simple rule of thumb in the RAF as to when we had to wear ear protection and there wasn't already a mandatory ear protection sign present... Basically, if we had to shout to be understood when conversing with another person when standing next to them, then we should be wearing ear protection... personally, I think that was a bit lax, the distance should have been 2 meters... If punters in a venue are having to shout their drinks orders to the staff, then it's too loud for the staff and they should either be wearing ear protection, or else the band/disco/jukebox or whatever should be turned down... the problem in the UK is a lot of councils play it safe and "gold plate" any legislation when drawing up their licensing regulations just so they can have more things to check for compliance when renewing or issuing them... it's getting ridiculous these days http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold-plating ps interference fit bolts??? surely you should have been chilling them (not using liquid nitrogen like they do for Nimrod wing root bolts) using freezing mixture to make them easier to fit? We used to freeze certain engine bolts when reassembling Tornado jet engines.
23. I wish people would edit the titles to add Sold or Withdrawn as applicable... King Tut probably just searched the for sales for a warwick... and didn't notice the date...
