1.
OK Phatmonkey has updated the forum software, so we shouldn't be getting any more bogus account sign ups. However there may still be validated accounts that we're not aware of yet. Many thanks to the people who have already PM'd Ped and I with spam posts.
there's a fresh run of spam posts this morning. I'm at work, otherwise I'd have actually opened them and reported them.
 2. 1200 grade carborundum paper... that'll smooth them off...
 3. It's a bit of a novelty item... not only that, finding strings for it would be a real nightmare... and I'll bet it's a real *&"^£$&*"* to tune... so basically, I'm not at all surprised it didn't go... It was remarked on in an earlier post when it first popped up...
 4.
im selling the last two effects pedals i own, in favour of just buying a low gain overdrive unit and some kind of headphone amp, so yeah... zoom b2.1u: you all know what it is. Brilliant multi effects unit, and without doubt THE best value multi effect out there, thats not my opinion, its FACT particular favourites from me are the reverb/delay, chorus, octave and phaser sounds, as good as any single pedals iv tried. The amp models are pretty cool to, particularly the trace one. unfortunatly no box or software/usb cable, but it will come with the power supply, £60 shipped i think is about right
you do know the Zoom output can be used to drive headphones? And you can wind the gain right down on the ODB-3 emulation in the Drive/Synth module... and or vary how much gets mixed in wet v dry in the ZNR/Mix...
 5. My Tanglewood has a strap button on the heel. It works, but the bass has a slight tendency to neck dive if not held in place with the right arm over the body. I've not found a decent strap long enough to attach acoustic guitar style to the pegboard...
 6.
So how would one apply a melted layer of wax?
with a brush while it's liquid...
 7. RRP is £330 for the five string Canyon I and £300 for either of the 4 string versions try looking around the web as well... hmmm... seems web price is £270 for the four string & £300 for five string That shop price is looking pretty good at £215 Also actually try playing the one in the shop... if it works for you (sound and feels right and you feel it's the one for you), then pay the shop price if you can't get it down any further and avoid the hassle of buying sight unseen...
 8. I'm currently GASsing for the Canyon III in spalted maple... I've already got two other Tanglewood basses so know the quality & workmanship is good...
 9. ah, so you've finally found the way in then... Hello Steve... I've already been "bigging you up" in here...
 10.
Bump - items added. And a reminder that these pups sound real nice (think EMG) but are quiet w/out the pre-amp.
argh... now you've added black tuners and bridge... question, would the tuners fit my Squier VMJ? and is the black bridge a drop in replacement for a normal Fender 4 string bridge? If yes to either or both, then I'd like to stick my name in for applicable item(s) I'm currently "toning down" my VMJ by making it black and maple. Got black strings on and proper Fender knobs... the control plate is already on order... argh... you've got to be fast here, that PM wasn't there when I started this post...
 11. the next bass will be a Precision bass... currently looking at the new Squier 50's old-style one in Lake Placid Blue In the meantime, one of my old Encore basses is going to be converted to fretless just to see if I can actually play it... If I do get on with playing fretless, then I'll probably get a VMJ fretless.
 12.
It's one year old and as new, with about 10 hours playing time on it, the price on the website says it should cost about $5000.
$5000, 1 year old and only ten hours play on it??? I've lost count of the number of hours I've been playing my Tanglewood and I've only had it a couple of months now... everything's bedding in nicely now and the tone's starting to mellow out.
 13. Here are my main four basses: Vintage V950B (Bubinga body) Tanglewood Warrior IV (Ash body) Tanglewood Electro-Acoustic Bass Detail of inlay on headstock Squier VMJ
 14.
If you have a look at the attached photo - in Photoshop I've taken the new 70s reissue and then overlayed a 60s model - the different pickup positions are clearly visible.
hah... my Squier VMJ which is supposed to be '70's styled has the pickup in the 60's position then...
 15.
Aren't you supposed to spend this on alcohol? Kids today, huh? P
that's what my daughter thought her grant was going to go on, until she found out how expensive the books for her course were... I had to stump up £150 at short notice on Thursday as her grant doesn't come through for a week or two yet, but they expect her to have the books now for the lessons... That's just the books for the one subject she's had so far... and the college library doesn't have them yet as the course is only in it's first year of presentation...
 16.
When i go out shopping i'm gonna search & learn the best i can. I was looking at a Ibinez acoustic or a Washurn AB10. the reason behind the acoustic route is i dont fancy going for the amps & effects. Trying to just keep my playing for me only. I have alot of mates in bands that try & tempt me in so i wanted an acoustic so i can still resist the "Lets get Gav drunk & reel him in" plan. Trouble is i dont know much about the acoustic side & there so few & far between, to do a good search i'm driving for miles just to see 1 Bass.....grrrr i never make it easy on myself lol
My Tanglewood Sundance electro-acoustic is extremely nice... Very mellow now I've put some phosphor-bronze strings on... the original D'addario strings were far too bright. The electric output came out very nice last Sunday through the PA in church... http://www.tanglewoodguitars.co.uk/product...mp;sID=26465174 handcrafted in England but the rrp is now £550... but the workmanship and finish are first class. (I lucked in on the charity auction and got it at a bargain price)
 17. one big tip... don't buy a "starter package" unless it's from a big name manufacturer... Encore bass starter packs are just not worth it... and have next to no resale value... Squier apparently do a good starter pack which includes a Fender Rumble amp and you can choose a Jazz or Precision bass package. Peavey also do a starter pack which got a good writeup in Bass Guitar Magazine I had a Peavey Millenium BXP in blue... now regret selling it... the new owner loves it... The Squier Vintage Modified basses are excellent value for money... I have the 70's style fretted Jazz... very tasty bass... wish I'd bought it first instead of that Encore package... When looking for a practice amp, make sure it has headphone out and CD/MP3 input... then you can easily jam along to tracks off CDs etc. without winding up the neighbours or significant other/parental units... Also, get a good tuner and also a good metronome... use the tuner... it makes it far easier to play along to a track when your bass is in tune and helps you in developing your ear... use the metronome... it helps in gaining a steady sense of time PS. some 30 years ago, I actually had a Fender Precision and had been playing in a punk band... had to sell it to raise money for a car when first daughter arrived... big pause until taking Bass back up again 2 years ago when the nest became empty...
 18.
The smallest Line6 combo (the Lowdown Studio 110) is an excellent sounding small combo and has some serious welly for a 12" cube!
I'm trading down to one of those next payday... I've had enough of humping my Laney RB6 around and only running it at low volumes. I think my back will not hurt so much either...
 19. Pignose Hog... if you can find one... http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/hog-30...0--batter/67886 I personally use my existing Peavey 126 and run it using a leisure battery and inverter to generate the mains power with.
 20. I like to play sparse and leave spaces for the beat to shine through... ps. Is it easy to loop these files using audacity or something? I tried using an ordinary audio player to repeat them but there was an obvious pause where the loop happened. answering myself... ooh yes, just select the entire waveform using Edit: Select all, then use the Repeat in the Effects list. Enter the number of repeats and it is automagically done
 21.
I googled but to no avail. Odd number of referrences to Ferris Bueller's Day off in talkbass threads though ... So more info, maybe a link please?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091042/quotes the teacher is taking the register and calls Bueller out several times with pauses
Economics Teacher: Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Simone: Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious. Economics Teacher: Thank you, Simone Simone: No problem whatsoever.
22. I have access to a large piece of cherry which could be used for a body for a bass... before I go to the trouble of having it planked and dried, has anybody had a bass body done with Cherry before now and did it work? This cherry tree (which I helped take down last weekend) is really large in cross section and the largest chunk is over two foot in diameter and 4 foot long, dead straight with no branches over that part either. We already have a couple of local cabinet makers interested in it, but it would be nice to know if it would make a good body for a bass first.
