1. Just to toss another name into the ring, I have a Quilter Bassblock 800 which I prefer over any of the class D amps I have tried (which is a heck of a lot). It is very lightweight, very small, very easy to use and has a fantastic intrinsic tone.
2. One week since the money was transferred. Anything up to 14 to go....
3.
i like it.. is it an eub stand or just a standard guitar stand?
It is a stand for a tattooists leg/arm support pad. The thing I liked about it is the quick release mechanism so it is very easy to assemble/dismantle - the stand folds up and sits in the pocket of the bag that should house the bow.
4. I mounted mine on a stand very cheaply and don't need the side brackets.
5. I wouldn't necessarily trust my ears over anything I think it is probably more about how subjective tone is at the end of it all. And, yes, nothing like a Precision. I have migrated to 5 string basses (but will still keep the JV) and have tried several things but none are quite exactly the same. Fender 5 string Ps are too heavy and the necks too wide. I have ordered a Mah-roos-chick (can't spell the actual word) 5 string Jake so hopefully that will be the end of it.
6. Not the best but I like it http://youtu.be/FxwWAJEempQ
7.
I had a really early JV which was all original other than the pickup had been switched for a Seymour SPB-1 or whatever they are called. Managed to pick up an original JV pup complete with the raised A pole pieces - it made the bass "all original" But.... I much preferred the Seymour pups and regretted swapping them, the JV were slightly more vintage sounding but the seymours were far far better sitting in a mix
I still have it - sounds fantastic. To my knackered old ears the original pup has more bite than the SPB-1, which I have had in other basses, and a richer sweet spot so from my perspective I am glad you swapped it!
8.
Damn! Now I've got some very incriminating browsing history that's going to be very difficult to explain when I get a knock on the door from the tortporn police!
You'll need a tort lawyer, of course...
9.
The worst that can happen is the punters remember the daft sod with the offensive T shirt and the stupid bass - they forget the player with the stock one that other players admire.
You forgot the add 'and big gob'. Nice to see you back in the forum Doctor.
10. I am thinking of doing a travel version - might the idea have legs?
11. The Hamsters were a local SE Essex band - tight RnB, their own stuff is pretty good as well as the Hendrix and ZZ Top covers they do - lost count f how many times I've seen them. Sadly they packed up a couple of years ago. I like this Richie Kotzen cover of Hall and Oates 'Sarah Smile' http://youtu.be/xk5H95iw-5g
12. Funny how totally subjective music is within a group of musos. For me, the only thing worse than Neil Young's guitar playing is his voice
13. Rather than the cab being the issue I would say perhaps it is the amp that is letting the side down? Try an old school amp with 'heft', perhaps - Trace Elliot, Peavey, Ashdown ABM etc. I use a Supercompact with a Trace Elliot head and it has balls to spare.
14.
And a dodgy moustache. Not only that, the bugger's PLAYING WITH A PICK. Bastard.
No - I am bunching my fist in case someone made a comment about my music stand.
Good thing his music stand is out of shot ...
Oh dear...
15. A couple not mentioned yet: Zal Cleminson, SAHB's clown. G.E. Smith, some blistering work on a lot of Hall and Oates stuff. Jamie Moses - session player, seen him with acts as diverse as Los Pacaminos and Tom Jones.
16.
Why not buy those rubber cable trunk things people put down when a mains cable is running from a wall plug out to equipment in a room, often seen at conferences?

Something like this do you? https://www.amazon.c...r/dp/B0078NU4C6
That is what I have. Bought some for next to nothing at a boot sale.
17. Seems a bit small? Got it from Public Peace. And I didn't haggle - seems a bargain as it is, frankly
18. Oh dear...
19.
I would never criticise her standing as a musician or, devalue her worth as a woman but in this case, I reckon there's a fair chance that he's handed it to her to give it a bit of a dust.
As an aside, there is a nicely crafted Brandy Clark song about wearing orange or stripes. http://youtu.be/plPRmANJF_w
20. Can only agree - it is lovely. OK, just placed my order. Classic Jake 5 string, black with black pickguard, birdseye maple neck/board and headstock plus carbon rods. Delano pups, Chrome Hipshot B bridge and Ultralite tuners. Luminlay side dots. Should have done this 2 years ago!! Excitement mounts!!
21. Still debating whether or not to go with carbon rods - anyone have a view?
22. Back from hols bump! 4kg of quality, rare, 5 string bass for £1250?
23. Just a thought- I fitted Hipshot licensed Ultralite tuners which I had intended to remove and sell separately. They reduce the weight down to 4kg. I can keep these on and include the originals for an extra £50.
24. I've always liked Hipshot A for my Precisions in the past so I guess that is the way to go. Anyone go for carbon rods in the neck, BTW?
