Hate the stupid sport, merely a brain fart. Anyway, I'll see your ford and raise you a well. Whatever his name, I saw him with the band a couple of times (before he died, obvs!) and he always had his elbows out like that so I can only assume he practiced on the double neck all the time! Last time he also - quite annoyingly - played the bass line to Hold Your Head Up wrong. Dummmdummmdummm dum dum instead of Dum dum dum dummmdummm.
-
I'd always thought he was cool AF seeing him on TOTP in the 70s - sunglasses, holey guitar, shirt undone to the naval. It is a pleasing thing to now dive a bit deeper and find he was perhaps the creative drive of the band. Their song 'Tragedy' rarely gets airplay anywhere but is most likely my favourite Argent tune. Certainly has some of my favourite rhythm guitar work on it in the breakdown. You can barely see Jim Rodwell from behind that twin neck!

Ballard! Just looked him up. Wow, he wrote some great tunes didn't he! Couple of Ranbow's biggies!

One of the things that puts me off seeing the Zombies again, tbh - Mr Argent's bitter and lengthy tirade. Left a nasty undertone to the evening.

Screen is 220cm wide, when furled the whole thing is 230cm long. When I bought this it fitted in my car but a change of car and it doesn't fit in any more. Also I find it increasingly difficult to lug around. It is heavy! Almost new condition. Free to collect from Benfleet in Essex.

It was ancient when I bought it 30 years ago! Pedestal drafting board, spring operated height / tilt adjustment. Board is 150cm x 90cm and the whole thing weighs a ton. Arm is off the board and board is off the base but easily reassembled. Free to collect from Benfleet in Essex but will need 2 strong backs to shift.

Wasn't sure about the protocol here - feedback on an off-grid transaction Ben bought a trip down memory lane from me - a priceless commodity that I was glad to be able to supply. We didn't chat so much about horror but probably got that done and dusted last time he visited and saw what was on my bookshelves. He's a lovely fella.

After a lengthy gap I am delighted to add to Sergio's feedback. He bought my Danelectro Longhorn bass in the most starightforward of transactions, being most accomodating and stopping off to get cash en route. Thank you Sergio and I hope the bass is enjoyed!

Up for sale my Danelectro Longhorn. Short scale ,weighs a ridiculous 2.6kg. Black and scruffy but cheap, cream binding is lifing in places, chips out of the headstock. The old combo knobs and wooden bridge saddle. Fitted with TI Flats (and that was interesting). Scruffy but cheap. Chinese or Korean? No idea but it is cheap. And scruffy. Love these or hate them, I love them - this is my third but I have no use for it now. The range of tones from those lipstick pups is quite surprising - dial in both together and it sounds to me like a Jazz bass. Except 2kg lighter, of course. £250, no trades, collection only from Benfleet in Essex

1981 Aria Pro II Cardinal Series CSB 450 'Black n Gold' medium scale £350

Next for the chop a 1981 Aria Pro II Cardinal Series CSB 450 'Black n Gold'. This was a top end of the range model with some lovely features but has been tinkered with over time. The original was a carved body glossy piano black with dark fingerboard, set neck, inset bridge and brass highlights on the bridge saddles, nut, tuners and other hardware. This still has the original bridge and nut, tuners have been swapped fro Wilkinson ones to give an off harlequin effect. I don't care. Knobs should be Gibson speed knob style but have been changed. Rear strap button has been changed and is no longer brass. Other than that this is as it should be. 3.5kg - an unusually lightweight example as these ore more usually over 4kg. As a result there is very slight neck dive that is cured by a wide grippy strap. Medium scale length. A few dings and scratches, most of which I am sure would polish out - certainly not bad for a bass over 40. This model is all about quality and tone - the pickup is one of Matsumoku's finest and is a really aggressive middy rock machine that chimes out and cuts through. I have tamed it with black tapes which also look as cool as, but it still is a monster. 42mm at the nut, 16mm spacing at the bridge. No case. £350 collected from Benfleet in Essex, 20 mins east of the Dartford crossing along the A13. No couriers, offers or trade, ta.

Next up I have my scruffy 2016 Fender Mustang. One of the beautiful MIJs. it's clearly had a tough life and the white paint is now scuffed and aged to buttermilk, in places shonkily touched in with what looks like distemper. Not by me, I hasten to add. Lots of dinks and the finish is worn through in places - might be genuine play wear or distressing - if the latter it has been done well. Weighs 3.6kg, 38mm at the nut, spacing is 18mm at the bridge. The maple neck and headstock have aged to that wonderful warm caramel colour and I assume it has a rosewood board. Sounds and plays fabulously, all the woody thump you would expect from a Japanese Mustang. Currently fitted with TI Flats, action is my standard fairly high 2.5mm at the 12th fret on the E. It came with a black scratchplate and I fitted a white one - both are included. It came with a thumb rest fitted near the bridge which I took off and have now lost, leaving another set of holes in an already scruffy bass. If you are looking for a nice museum piece to hang on your wall, look away. If you want a good solid, beautifully playing gigging bass then come have a look. No hard case. £600 £500 collected from Benfleet, 20 mins east of the Dartford Crossing along the A13. No couriers, offers or trades
