1. I'm guessing that a few of us here end as default band manager so how do you handle the tricky situation of asking about sharing drum shells? I always try to ask the band who are playing last if its ok before we turn up to the gig. Mostly people say that its fine as long as we bring drum breakables. Is this other people's experience?
2. One of the reasons I use a teeny tiny rig is to make sure that its as easy as possible to take my own rig to a gig. If a band has a technical fault on the night or asks ahead of time I've no problem lending my amp and cab as long as they follow my "I'll set it up, you don't change the dials" rule. Never had a problem, helped out people who've since become friends. Lend a bass? No, sorry.
3. New recordings from Madam Fade here. Bass driven Alt rocky stuff Hope you like them.
4.
I agree. This horse is 194cm tall which doesn't help.
More of a stallion than a pony eh?
5.
They vibrate too much on a hollow stage and move about. The angle of the cab still isn't pointed at my ears.
Fair enough. Works for me. Horses for courses.
6. Can I suggest an amp stand? Lift your amp nearer to your ears and angle it up like a wedge. No need for a new cab. I use my mini rig on an amp stand as a monitor and di into the pa. Just a suggestion ;-)
7. I like a lot of these suggestions and may I suggest A clatter of slapping bass players?
8. I have my main instrument (Schecter C4) and a back up/different sounding bass. To be honest I can count the times I've gigged the P bass on one hand.
9.
To be honest my biggest concern is that someone I regard as being one of the best funk bass players in the world is coming along to our first gig (he's the guitarist's mate), lol.
ooo, who is it?
10.
Would I go to see a band with this name?? Probably not..not sure how others would feel...
I'm afraid I'd agree with this. Edit - but to be fair if you'd caught me in a different mood I might have said how fun and good it is. Also, my band has a pretty random name and it doesn't seem to hurt us.
11.
If I’m honest, I don’t really have GAS for a new bass, more that I just fancy treating myself.
If you don't really want it, why bother? Why not spend the money on something/doing something you really want? For the cost of those instruments you could go on a nice holiday? On the other hand if "money isn't a huge issue" then why not. Edit - I realise that this is a voting situation so I'm going to have to vote with what I'd do. So in this case I'd go with no. I also realise that this will probably not be the prevailing opinion
12. Wow, think I must have been lucky and spoilt. Never had an amp I hated. Rehearsal room amps sometimes aren't great but stick a pre amp in front and I've always been able to get a useable sound.
13. Great day, just been listening to the final mixes of a recent recording session with my band. Pleased so far, one more track to arrive in my mailbox and then the sharing and sending begin.
14. Bit of a mixed one last night for my band Madam Fade at Firebug in Leicester Good venue, good crowd, great reaction. Got to see some cracking music from Savanna Bones (kind of a heavy blues duo). BUT - it was our first gig back after our Christmas and New Year break and consequently there were quite a few slip ups. Only 1 that might have been noticeable from the audience (I moved to a verse section halfway through a chorus, Doh!) but enough to make us feel we hadn't given our best. Oh well, back to the rehearsal room.
15.
Did one on Friday in a duo and got three more out of it between now and May.
Result!
16. Looks great. Good on you for getting busy.
17. When I had one it was full mid boost, treble and bass fully cut, gain on about 1/2 and volume to suit. Totally different from Lozz
18. a happy new MB500 user here. Love the foot switchable boost channel. An effective EQ section is a nice change from my previous amp (Orange Bass Terror).
19. just watching now. Thanks for posting.
20. GK MB500 arrived today. off to rehearsal to try it out. whoop! Edit- love it. A great piece of kit
21.
written the bass part and the vocals side-by-side to allow for any shortcomings.
I do consider both parts when writing the music but you can run the risk of over simplifying in order to make things easier.
22. I do lead vox. Yes its hard. Yes simplify your bass parts to begin with. Yes practice But Once you get it, you'll never lose your place in a song again, you know the lyrics so understand the song better and its great fun.
23. A day recording at a local studio with my band. Loads of fun. Big smiles.
24. Not really in this band but I have used a Line 6 Floor pod to great effect in a previous band. I just had a different patch for each song, different levels of drive, compression, amp sounds, chorus and filter. Lots of fun.
25. Gallien Krueger MB500 amp ordered and on its way. Very exciting. Will make my small rig even more convenient to move around with a more effective eq section and a foot switchable drive channel.
