2. I got rid of my studio monitors - found them far too cold sounding for listening to music generally. Found that wiring my Mac up to a micro hi-fi gives a much warmer sound.
 3. Have a look at the Hartke LH500. Cheap, easy to work and getting rave reviews here and elsewhere.
 4. +1 for Andy Rourke Adding - Mark Stoermer (Killers) I'll stick up for Mark King too. The guy's an amazing player but just suffers from the British tall poppy syndrome - build em up, knock em down. The music might have been very MOR, the slapping over the top, but the guy's an amazing fingerstyle player; great feel. He can sing lead vocals at the same time too, which is a hell of an achievement.
 5.
Wow! there's a blast from the past! I loved that album when I was at art college back when it came out. The songs were fantastic, the vocals were great, the production was superb. I'd really like to hear it again now. I've only got it on vinyl (somewhere??) so not very convenient.
I've got it on now thanks to this topic. Real blast from the past. It's 80s big production alright - lots of reverb, double tracking, DX7s, and clean Fender Strats a-go a-go!
 6.
I had an imprint of my graphic on my chin for about two weeks!
Did you set the EQ to a 'smile' pattern?
 7. As I've got back into gigging, I've switched to cheaper, lighter basses that still deliver killer sound without costing an arm and a leg. Got the G&L Tribute and stopped using my Stingray. The G&L does everything I need and more.
 8.
try an Ibanez ATK.
Haha...seen that French kid before. He's mad. Great player though and goes to show that a lot of it's in the fingers. That said, you can get the SR sound out of the ATKs easily. Great basses.
 9.
Is this down to a crappy tuner or something else.
If it's the TU-2, I find them quite difficult to use. You don't need an expensive tuner just a simple one! In my band we use Fender PT100s. Work a treat and cost about £30.
 10.
saldy im not flush enough to buy a stingray new so will be lookin for a second hand stingray
Second hand is much much better way to go at the mo - you'll get one at a good price. Under £600 maybe.
 11.
the guitarist and drummer in my band demand i get a stingray
Worrying statement! Choose the bass that feels and sounds right for you. Rays are great at doing that biting funk sound but can be heavy and some people don't like the chunkiness of the neck. On the up side, the sound does cut through the mix well. You could try a Sterling which is a bit smaller or maybe a G&L Tribute L2000 - same sound, more variation, much lighter, much cheaper. But overall don't let the band choose your bass!
 12. Another convert - good man! Very similar to mine...
 13. £300 is a great deal. Like active basses? Always wanted your Precision to sound hotter? Love Musicmans but find them too cumbersome? Here's your bass!
 14. "Morris Hurricane" bass. Nope, me neither. Apparently "rare vintage" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123
 15.
Here's a little something I enjoyed putting together with GB. Its great fun to use - like playing with lego.
That's neat - I like it!
 16. If you can avoid buying/owning/being responsible for the PA, do so! I find it the fact I have to cart it about the worst bit about gigging. Our set up is pretty small but life would be so much easier if I didn't have the wretched PA to deal with. Once it's yours, there's no shaking the thing off! That said, our set up works well. Two powered Alto PS4 cabs and a small Behringer mixer with FX built in. Don't forget to budget for cables (you'll need more than you think), power leads, etc etc. We each own Carlsbro powered monitors too which are expensive for what they are but do the job. Edit: good quality powered cabs like the Altos or Mackies are defo the way to go for clear vocals. We A/B'd the Altos against Peavey, Wharfedale and couple of other brands and the Altos were in a different league. They sound more like hi-fi speakers.
 17. Used to play Slinkies, now play Hartkes. £6 a set and better IMO.
 18.
I am currently using Audacity for recording on my home mac, but what I'm doing just doesn't cut it: LOADS of noise, latency and bad quality audio.
You tried using Garageband? Should be included on your Mac and it's great. Latency sounds more like a interface issue - are you using a USB interface or plugging straight into the Mac? Try a Line 6 UX1 Toneport. I use the UX2 and it works a treat.
 19.
Lovely bass but for some reason G&L's are not that popular here in the UK Why? I don't know.
1. Think the distribution in the UK never worked. When I called shops about Tributes a year or two ago, they said they had trouble getting hold of them. 2. A lot of the USA stuff is made to order. Means you great a custom bass but also means you don't see many hanging on the wall of guitar shops. 3. £500+ for a Tribute is a lot for the casual buyer. But you do get a hell of a lot of bass for the cash. If they could sort the distribution of the Tributes out in the UK, they'd sell on their own merits me thinks.
 20. Arrgh. That black 1A is the bass I wanted when I was 14! Remember it being much more expensive than than the natural version, which is how I ended up with that. The natural one was £150 back in 1984 (£350 in today's money). These are great basses though - very easy to play. Good luck with the sale(s)!
