  1. Hope it is tongue in cheek! One of the best bits of bass playing I've ever seen - watched it a million times. Use of a mix of styles but always serving the song harmonically and dynamically. And the slap bits in context are great..and pretty understated.
  2. Selling my Warwick Corvette $$ 5 String which I've owned for around 3 years. It was made in 2006 in Germany. It plays beautifully, with a nice low action, but I have decided that I need a 5 string with wider spacing (this one is around 16mm at the bridge) as I'm more used to precision/stingray spacing. Also have my eye on a couple of fivers on here. It's all working perfectly and has a ridiculous amount of tonal possibilities with twin humbuckers that can be as single coils and in series or parallel. Also the volume pot has a push/pull active/passive option. It's been gigged a few times and is not perfect, as the pictures show, but it's a lovely thing. Will supply with the semi rigid case that came with it (or a gig bag if preferred). Bass is located in Colchester, Essex. Will not post but happy to meet up within a reasonable distance. Could be interested in trades around the same value or I could add cash for a the right 5 string with wider spacing. I have included a screenshot of the Warwick database which suggests that the bass was originally supplied with black hardware but someone has changed this before my ownership (and the guy I bought it from).
  3. The lockdown era has introduced me to the wonders of home recording. As part of my learning I thought it would be interesting to record all four of my basses as 'dry' as possible, playing the same baseline, to see what they sound like recorded for future reference. If I'm honest, although there are clear tonal differences, they mostly just sound like me!
  4. Thanks for the help 'J'. You've confirmed my thoughts and I'll have a go over the weekend. What could possibly go wrong! 😂
  5. Hi, I'm enjoying my Status Series 3000 purchased from one of our own, but before I make some avoidable mistakes, I'm wondering if anyone has any tips about bridge adjustment. It's got an original type status bridge which looks like the saddles just float (in the backwards and forwards plane) until you lock them in place with screws on the side. I'm therefore a bit confused about intonation adjustment - whether to slacken off stings, move saddle slightly, tighten strings/screws and test or is there another way, or have I missed the point completely? Any advice/links to vids/owners manuals etc would be welcome.
  6. Is Powerage the one with sin city on? The only AC/DC song I remember having a bit of a bass led break.
  7. I used to love playing this in a band with a real Hammond. There’s that magic moment when the keys come in. I could play that bassline all night just for that moment.
  8. Transmission by Joy Division. I was hooked. If you’ll pardon the pun. Then got a mate who could read music to call out each note of a 12 bar blues in the book I got with my first bass whilst I painstakingly worked out where that note was on the bass.
  9. Thanks to Ash on this forum, I took delivery yesterday of a stunning early 90s Status Series 3000. Having fought off my lockdown GAS successfully so far, I crumbled when this came up. Like a lot of bass players my age, I’ve lusted after a Status since they were adopted as the weapon of choice by Mark King. And this is an opportunity to own a relatively affordable one. I’m definitely not disappointed. It’s a magnificent beast. I own 3 other very decent basses, but this is almost a step up again in terms of sound. Each note has a focussed quality that none of the other basses has, from open strings to the high end of the fretboard. The neck is a wonderful shape that, so far, suits me down to the ground. Need more time to play with the eq possibilities but the basic tone is very much up my alley - think Entwistle on Quadrophenia, it’s got that piano-like quality. I understand from the previous seller(s) that the finish was a special order for a German shop. It’s a trifle leerier than my usual with the gold sparkle, but why not! I can see this becoming my go to 4 string. Are the any downsides? It ain’t light! I’ve never weighed the basses I have and just assume that they’re about average, but this seems heavier. I understand, again from previous sellers, that it’s walnut under the paint, but I expect carbon fibre to be light (F1 and all that). I think that because it’s headless it seems heavier than it actually is? Anyway, touch wood, my back is fine so I’ll live with it until I can no longer (or can afford a brand new one!). Really looking forward to giving this one when we're allowed.
  10. Just received a bass from Ash - my first Basschat purchase and a great introduction. Great communication, wonderful bass and bombproof packaging. A real gent! Thanks Darren
  11. Yeah, I know...I can sense defeat.
  12. The trouble for me is not so much the GAS as the refusal to let go of what I've got to make room for/justify the new acquisition. I thought I had everything I need before lockdown but now I've got real gas for a spector Euro 4LX. That would put me at 4 basses - which I know is at least 1 too many. But I can't get rid of: My Stingray cos I've had it for 30-odd years and its still my favourite My Corvette $$ cos it's a five string and there are 2 or 3 songs with the current band where I use it My Jazz cos at some point I'll need something passive and old school! - and it's a flamed maple top thing of beauty Thing is I do have 4 wall hangers, one of which is occupied by an 80's ibanez studio geetar... which I could get rid of.....🤔
  13. This one. Bought new in '88, been with me ever since.
  14. Hab vent seen a mullet like that since the first Baywatch! Thank the lord its not the bass player.
  15. I go to a really good jam night at the salutation in Ipswich and they have bands on every weekend.
  16. You’re the first, the last, my everything by Barry White. Usually I try to put my own slant on a cover (cheat a bit) but I’m trying to keep to the original and it’s a bugger!
  17. Ipswich. Pub called the salutation. Great jam night every Thursday.
  18. Good luck with the gig. Enjoyed a jam last night with your drummer. Very tidy indeed.
  19. So as I said in my earlier post, I missed this last time as it’s an area of the forum that I don’t visit a lot so if this thread ends up on page 2 I’d probably not see it. Maybe the specific local bashes could all be stickies. I know there would be a lot, but at least they’d be visible?
  20. I completely missed this one. If there is to be another then I’ll be there (date permitting). Ipswich seems to be a sensible place but not sure of venues there. I used to rehearse in the back room of the Kingfisher pub. It’s huge and if I remember correctly was dirt cheap to hire.
