Haha! Double albums AND I saw the show: Topographic Oceans - I was tripping my donkey off and they OPENED with the complete Close To The Edge. So that was a million hours of Yes and me having a Spiritual Experience. T.O's was STILL TOO LONG when I came down. (but the good parts were still good, I think I wrecked the vinyl after that) And they kept editing that down in live performance. The Wall. Over Blown. I had Mezzanine 1st row@ Nassau Colliseaum (right where the plane hit The Wall, turns out). Interesting to see live, considering there was a Fake Pink Floyd band and a Nazi Rally at the other end of The Colliseum, and they brought out The Inflatable Pig for No Reason. But, Boring, Boring, Boring, Double Album with Too Much Waters and Not Enough Pink Floyd. And Joe's Garage Sucks except for when Frank Shuts Up and Plays His Guitar. Sorry F.Z. fans he ran outa fun a long time before that. -
Recommended for 11yr old learning guitar
StickyDBRmf replied to uk_lefty's topic in Other Instruments
It's so different from when I was 11 and starting on guitar. Gee Wiz let him look around on YouTube and find what he likes, but as an online educator and having print material available I would say Rick Beato & his Beato Book. He's got a 12yr. old kid learning guitar I hope the kid realizes how cool his Dad is. (his name is Dylan for cryin' out loud...)- 1 reply

I have to admit my "bass hand" is the slow hand I set it up w/ the left and finish it off w/ the right. My right hand is much more proficient. But yeah, I pick up a bass and I rip...(my fingers to a bloody mess 'cause I have no calluses)

I don't believe I have ever owned a bass-specific pedai and I have been playing since 1973. My wah-wahs have always been Morleys because of the range. Twiddling with the knobs is always necessary. I'm currently using a Line6 PODX3 so that gives me the ability to "blend" because I can run two signal chains in parallel. But more than not I have an effect "full-on". It's always a matter of personal taste on how much I want an effect. Your cheapest option would be to keep the M13 and try a blend pedal or cheap mixer - whichever you can find. Keep experimenting with what you have though.

Nail polish on those darn pickup poles?
StickyDBRmf replied to isteen's topic in Repairs and Technical
I go to the salon they do my toenails too. (sorry, couldn't help myself) -
Trey Gunn plays his Warr on his lap 'cause his back is shot ('cause he switched from Stick to Warr)

Can I see the fronts of those basses? Please?

What are you listening to right now?

Never heard of 'em. Cool band. (Yanks) -
A good bass into a good amp. Nothing else needed IMO!
StickyDBRmf replied to dave74200's topic in Amps and Cabs
dave74200, you still here? Some bassists don't know how and when to use effects. A 4 pickup bass? Were you watching Bootsy? This is silly fun I gotta pop some popcorn... -
Yeah, I have an old Line 6 PODX3 Live (and an X3 w/Shortboard as backup 'cause the Live is a 2011 model - never know) so I can run my Ironwood w/ Stickup & 12-string DBR w/ PASV-4 and ACTV-2 into any mono amp if the occasion presents itself. I can deal with the different impedances...the PASV-4 is passive but it's hotter than anything else including active pickups.

I have an Affinity Strat that I picked up@ a pawn shop for $60 US and I love it. Fit and finish is nice even the frets don't stick out like you see those YouTube vids showing. If I saw an Affinty Jazz used somewhere I would have to give it try I don't need another bass but I had a real one in the 70's and, well, you know...

I remember as a "kid" picking up a SVT and saying I can't believe how heavy that is. I'm sort-of shopping for "something" in the stores and I pick it up to appraise it. (Mostly combos). I want to add I am now 62 and have back problems. I saw a SVT@ Guitar Center and wanted to see if memory was valid. (Up until last year I was still cooking for a caterer and could pick up a 50# bag of potatoes. I swear I thought the SVT was bolted to the floor. REALLY. I tried it again because I couldn't believe it - this time it moved, but SHEESH.

Something you like also so if he decides THE BASS is not for him you have something you can keep and slog around on...

I don't know what it is, but as soon as I pick up a bass I either go "Oooh" or "Ughh". When I "try" to get "used to it" it never works. Except for the Stick. With that, it's more, "I can't play this thing, my fingers are hitting the wrong strings and making ugly noises, but it's ME, this thing is GREAT." Now it feels "right" in my hands, as soon as I pick it up. (But my fingers still hit the wrong strings, and funny noises still come out...)

Not for you. Mine makes the headache go away.
-
Maybe mine has a truss I've never had the neck off. I keep the pickup screws from loosening (on the back) with duct tape...
-
I had a Pedulla Pentabuzz with a fretless unlined unfinished ebony neck in "Champange Pink". It was actually kinda purple. And it was sexy. Girls thought it was sexy. And it was fun carrying it around by the horn. I hated the electronics (P/J active Bartolinis). I have a Danelectro Longhorn. They don't snap off. To each his own. To me Yamaha BB's are ugly, ugly, ugly. If you gave me one I would trade it for a cheeseburger (and fries).

I have a 90's reissue and wouldn't touch a thing. Wooden bridge wood screws as string height adjusters, itty-bitty tuning knobs, no truss adjustment...intonation, lipstick pickups, splanky-perfect best $165 US (with antique-looking gigbag). Oh, and yeah, plastic strap buttons just too cool and way playable!

Unless you're running melody and bass side w/ volume pot at maximum, the two leads into a mono plug ain't gonna cut it. Impedance mismatch or something like that. You need some kind of summing mixer. The PASV-4 pu and ACTV-2 pu have mono switches. Stickup no. I don't know how the Railboard pu works. Woodinblack- "it would be one of the last instruments I got rid of." I would grab my Stick if the house were on fire...it's the instrument I (try to) play every day, and while I have an assortment of basses (and guitars) to get an assortment of sounds that I CAN'T get on Stick, I much rather prefer to get a Stick sound.
