1. Yes, as long as you can wield a soldering iron for pots etc. putting two bits of brass or copper together is a portion of urine.
2. The one basspartsresource sell is the standard earthing plate which would occupy both positions on a Jazz. The only difference on a 60s style bass is that the strip connecting the treble position one to the bridge must be added separately. It's only a strip of shim brass cut to length and can be easily duplicated once you have the right material (I've got some!).
3. I think I can help you Clarky but I'll need a day or so to sort through boxes.
4. Apart from the tag, it's not Fender - simple as that.
5.
I'm particularly intrigued by the fretless Jazzenstein up front there. More details, please.
Body made by me (alder), neck by Mighty Mite - late 70s (Maccassar ebony board) standard Fender Jazz electrics with an additional Gibson EBO circuit added - stereo wired so that Fender and Gibson circuits can only be mixed externally i.e. two channel amp or two separate amps required.
6.
What was the mojoed looking P leaning against then GK rig?
That's my gigging machine - a 1963 Precision with added Di Marzio J pickup. I started playing seriously the same year but it's in slightly better condition than I am. It's natural wear, not yer reliced by a kid with a carbide disc.
7. I wonder if the bass he is playing in this clip is 'the one'. I understand the tribute model to be a slab fingerboard jobie and the one featured shows a cambered board. 1962 was the year of the change (around June I believe) - anyone got any info to add, or is it simply a case that he has more than one 62 bass?
8. Cheers to WoT for organising another enjoyable event. Although it was nice when it stopped - lugs just about recovering now. Some great gear and splendid chaps accompanying same.
9.
I cannot imagine that it would have this much play ware and not had a refret at some time, although if it has its been done by someone who knows their stuff
Yes re-fret understandable - but jolly well done! And the 're-fin' is excellent (Bravewood?).
10. I reckon that's had a re-fret - so there's 5 grand off it's price right there.
11. My records suggest USA are 6/32 UNC - same as the length adjustment bolt. Made in Japan used 3.5 metric on JV series and the like but another thread has also been used in the past. Best advice on the ones now in question would be to have them ground down so they don't protrude (ooh missus) too much.
12.
HAS THE BASS DOC MET HIS MATCH.........................................................................................?
'Fraid so.....I do however remember these pickups from way back and I wouldn't get too enthusiastic about them. Their method of fixing (screws on the lower former only) can lead to warping and consequential damage to the coils. The performance is fairly average and can be equalled by so many conventional units that are currently on the market.
13.
I'll be back on the P soon.
Best you stay sober for gigging purposes.
14.
Bass Doc to the rescue once again! Do you have a white vehicle with a flashing blue light and a siren packed full of vintage bass parts Howard
I offer a choice of blue, green or red flashing lights depending on the ones fitted to the customers Fender amp.
15.
Is it true that the beige ones were made for Lindisfarne ?
Quite possibly, though I think it became a standard offering later. BTW we used to call the band Lindisfart ( when not within earshot of Rod Clements).
16. Are these any particular make? I mention it because I may be able to offer a trade - one of the neck pair for a bridge one I am likely to have in my spares box.
17. Just tell yourself it stands for Opportune Lucky Purchase.
18. It's true that most Fender necks and bodies are interchangeable but bear in mind we're talking woodwork not engineering. In otherwords you will not be looking at accuracy to thousandths of an inch but you'd also be very unlucky if the fit was so bad as to warrant some degree of woodworking to make it solid. Do not mix standard bodies with 22 fret necks - -the result will be badly out of line with where the bridge should be.
19. For everyday use, may I suggest the Rolf Harris Roadworn.
20. Fitted with flats or rounds? Case?
21. Presumably not Pre-Ernest Testicle.
22. As an aside, I've got one of those Blazer pickups going spare if any one needs it (sorry if this is slightly OT).
23. There's a 'Pirate' telescope on E-bay at the moment for £2.96 BIN incl. postage so I don't think it's a big deal if his is missing. Not sure if it will be compatible but no doubt a luthier and astronomer could get together and adapt the thing.
24.
4k my arse.
Interesting offer - I'm passing your details on to Sir Elton.
25.
Also, what is the best stand for a Music Man? I've got a Stingray and a Sterling, but the jack has to be taken out if I'm using my Genisis stand 'cos the jack is directly in line with the right hand support.
Not a good idea to leave the jack plug in whilst standing the bass down as the battery will continue to drain and consequently shorten it's life.
