1.
"I've been asked to source a '64 Precision.....", why the coverup at the start?
He was asking himself. I often talk to myself, but I rarely get any sense. Whadya mean any sense? Just what I said. Well that's the last time I let you come on Basschat if that's the thanks I get. Get knotted.
2. I share the majority opinion on MG expressed here in that rip-offs are the norm but I'm finding it difficult to get past the 'best bass I've ever played' statement in the OP. Best advice would be for one of our more 'Fender-street-wise' brethren to accompany Wayne ('fraid it's a bit too far for me) and then take the thing apart (both physically and verbally if need be) so that either a clear-cut 'don't touch it' is issued or it gets the green light as a player.
3. I did indeed reside in Gosforth for a while - I sometimes go back there just to be disgusted. But I must now own up to being Thrawn of Throckley.
4.
A view of the bridge area would help
Whad'ya reckon Beedster - front loading badass in black?
5. I do beg your pardon. Beedster and I are simply discussing the credentials of the bass in question without descending into the innuendo/filth that some people on this forum are frequently a bit too keen on. 'Disgusted of Gosforth'
6.
it's not a looker but it's heaven to play.
I think you've set out your own criteria here - I would suggest acquiring it as a player and then perhaps have it re-finned. Something along the lines of, say, black and white checks - just an idea.
7. A view of the bridge area would help so that I can see if the (G) string is top-loaded or through body.
8. I'm liking your festive avatar Ou7shined - seems to a left-hander played upside down. To be sure of the model can you make it pan down any?
9. Hurrah for Barry - on your recomendation I'm looking forward to using him - can you pop round and stack a couple of amps up for me?
10.
no smoking allowed!
It won't work. Howard.
11. Shall we all go to Aylesbury and have a duck?
12. No specialists as such but for new stock Guitar Guitar in Grainger Street Newcastle would have the best selection.
13.
"Not that I can see".
Therefore it ain't.
14. I once achieved a reasonable result by fitting two standard size saddles for strings 2&4 thus allowing all 5 to 'splay out' a bit further. If you have access to a pair of Fender sized saddles to experiment with you may find it would be a relatively cheap mod to create the desired effect. The only drawback may be the lining up of the pickup pole pieces as I remember that I fitted a stock-sized MM type pickup at the same time.
15. Voice like Larry Graham please (and a bit of his prowess on bass wouldn't go amiss).
16.
How does £50 delivered for the pair sound to you? Interparcel.com should be able to do it via Interparcel Economy for around a tenner, tops.
That'll do nicely thanks. Shall we exchange PMs?
17. I can only state what's on the label - Fane Studio 10M - 200 watts RMS (400 watts peak) - made in 1998 (but stored after minimal use for the last few years). The chassis are heavy-duty cast jobbies with that 'squared-off' look.
18. I've got a pair of Fane Studio 10s at 16 ohms if you're interested. Looking for £20 each+postage (would have to get a price on that 'cos they're heavy)
19.
Rick Price
Round about £1,000.00 in the present market, depending on condition - now back to the topic.
20.
this one. the one with no strings
What, do you mean they were actually er...miming? Surely not. Yeah, I reckon it was a spoof guitar for the show so that sad bastards like us would be discussing it years later.
21. I've been watching that clip for years - somebody, somewhere has to ask the guy in question 'wot's all that about?' I should really, but I don't know where to start.
22. First did this about 1990 - beat Fender to the S1 idea.
23. Better idea - instead of paying money to basspartsresource, why don't I supply the bits cheaper? You see many moons ago some players who commissioned me to fit the likes of EMGs allowed me to keep bits like earthing plates since EMGs, active MECs etc. didn't require an earth path.
