1. Hi, and welcome.
2.
I used to think they were a 6 piece group till now.
I think a lot of people did. I think Dave Dee passed away about 5 years ago.
3. The Lost boys Midnight run
4.
R Dean Taylor just got on with it. Mind you, he was going to see Jane.
I could have cancelled rehearsal if I'd wanted to. He "had" to see Jane. I really don't think you've fully grasped the urgency involved in his journey as opposed to mine
5. On my way home last night from rehearsal, I noticed a couple of spots of rain. 30 minutes later it was pouring down and nearly impossible to drive. When the Fortunes claim that "one drop of rain on your window pane, doesn't mean to say there's a thunderstorm comin" they are talking utter bollocks and should be ignored.
6. Another one gone from my youth. Dozy (Trevor Ward Davies) RIP.
7. These seem to crop up a bit over here with covers bands. Chasing cars Crazy (Ceelo Green) I feel good Freak out I wish Superstition The usual Johnny B Goode and Roll over Beethoven and the Miles Davis version of Sex on fire
8. When Tony Newman formed "Pinkerton's assorted colours" in 1965. They were soon dubbed one hit wonders. After the release of their second single, they changed the name to Pinkerton's colours. The third single saw a name change to Pinkerton's. Despite various members going on to form and join acts such as Jigsaw, Flying machine,Trapeze and Judas Priest, the original band still exists but is now called Pinkert.
9. You're not alone. Last summer, we got a seriously well paid rock trio gig. (For us anyway) We would play for 40 mins and get €1,000 between us. PA supplied as per our requirements but no engineer. We got a mate in to mix us and set about setting up the PA as it had been delivered but just dumped on the stage. 6 foldback monitors, 4 FOH cabs. Huge desk and huge power amp. Nothing, not a sound. After 40 minutes of head scratching, panic and trying to get in touch with the sound hire company, a member of the future audience says "shouldn't those two big fat cables be plugged in somewhere?" We had nothing coming out of the power amps. Durrr.
10. Just had a listen. That smacks of 3 blokes who feel the need to start a band and maybe do a gig down their local for a bit of a laugh. Shame they let that performance slip through the net. However, there's obviously a reason for it rather than that's just how they sound normally.
11. God gave rock & roll to you All the young dudes Money for nothing G&R version of Knockin on heaven's door Hey Jude Thunderstruck Oh, I forgot to mention Sid's version of My way.
12. One of these was my very first "real" bass combo. Fond memories of giving the rest of the band decibel sickness. Ultra reliable and tougher than Mike Tyson. GLWTS
13. I hope you were only a 4 pce as you only got one 1/4 sandwich each
14.
Was that Jim Martial?
I'll never live that one down.
15. Bit off the wall here but how about a few classic standards if your guitarist is good. Girl from Ipanema Got you under my skin Come fly with me All quite interesting to play and go down surprisingly well. If you want something a little more up tempo, Kiss (Prince) works well, even with just an acoustic as does Valerie (Mark Ronson version) and also have a look at the Franz Ferdinand version of Blondie's "Call me"
16. None of the Manic Street Preachers actually have any affiliation to any church or religion whatsoever.
17. Wobbly bottomed martial arts actor / guitarist Steven Segal's real name is actually Stephen Seagull but he changed it to Segal when he left The Byrds for a career in films.
18. I've been to a few dress suit evenings in my time. All the other guys look like James Bond when they wear theirs. I look like I should be outside a Deptford nightclub saying "Sorry pal, no trainers or jeans innit"
19.
Thanks for the advice. I plan to go to a shop tomorrow and will look at the Squiers etc and then find a used bass, based on what I find comfortable. Definitely want some lessons.
So option C is out the window in under an hour is it? You'll get a great 2nd hand bass for well under £300 + 5 lessons for £125. That's £275 left for the Mrs. You know it makes sense and she'll love you for it.
20. Good teachers aren't just good players. They understand the art of teaching. A good teacher will identify what you need and set you on a path that suits your way of learning.
21. I really like that. Testament to a good hook in a song that it can transcend different musical genres. Nice groovy little combo too. Very cool. Thanks.
22. Ooh, I'd forgotten just how good they were. Thanks for reminding me.
23. The Ibanez Promethean combo for £375 Bipbip's Yammy RBX JM6 string for £400 £225 left for a rather nice meal and a hotel room after the gig (There's a keyboard player at the gig so once I've explained where G is, I'll get a tuning note off of him)
24.
Thanks for the kind words. I think six string basses are still a niché, so it is not a surprise that they move slower, even if they are of a well known brand's tried and trusted model line. Probably the fact that I'n not in the UK does not help as well. But that's ok. I think there is a buyer somewhere who will enjoy this bass as much as I enjoy its five string sister which is my main bass. (EURO5) Paul
6 stringers may be a niche market but I had one of these for a couple of years (same finish) and they are one of the easiest to play. Fabulous neck so ideal for someone looking to get into 6 string but who's also after a serious bit of quality. GLWTS
25. Put a mirror up in the rehearsal studio and the one that spends least time in front of it gets the job. Alternatively, the one who asks if you need a hand to pack up the gear afterwards.
