1. merchant city music was just 100 yards up the road, hopefully you had a gander in there too. I almost never go into any of the shops these days! although my bus goes by GuitarGuitar and I like looking in the window! haha
2. Got a pic of the PS5? including postage?
3. Funnily enough, I've got a Evo II 300 head sitting here that started doing the same thing. I never got it fixed cos I had only just had got it fixed for another thing and decided just to replace it. If you find out what was wrong and how much it cost you to fix, let us know, it might be worthwhile for me to put this one in for a check up!
4. I use the graphic eq on a zoom ms60b to cut out the 50hz. And below..works a treat. Easily tweakable on the fly too. I use mine for preamp/ eq/ compressor/ noise gate and tuner. Does them all nicely and only takes up one space.
5.
As for now, these two are everything I use. Digitech Bass Synth Wah + Polish Love Overdrive. Pretty nice couple.
What do you do with the two outputs? Does the synth go to foh and the od amp?
6. Beautiful! Totally makes sense for q1. Q2 was more a hope than expectation. Much appreciated!
7. ..... And hopefully some of you kind dudes out there can help me! Question 1: Tap tempo. I have a patch set up with delay. I tap the 'tap' button on the unit, it tells me the tempo im tapping and the button flashes at the tempo, but yet the Delay does not change in tempo. Furthermore I have a tap control button which does the exact same thing (after I've changed to tap tempo via the 'total' menu option) but again no change in the delay. The delay sound only is affected by the turning of the knob within the certain delay effect. Anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to change it? Strangely though when i set the 'control in' to turn off and on the effect it works perfectly well, and it also changes the tempo of the drum machine, so that makes me think its an option I'm missing. Question 2: Can I use the 'control in' to make one of the pitch effects to be used like a Boss harmoniser in its 'siren' function. As in, can I hold the button for the effect to swoop up an octave, and then depress it for the effect to swoop back down to the normal pitch. Imagine a police siren if pressed on and off. It seems pretty standard for a pich shifter to be able to so this, so I'm hoping its something similiar to what Im doing wrong with Q1 that is stopping me doing it with Q2.
8.
Lefrash - how's the Markbass head working out for ye? I have serious GAS for of those, or a Genz Benz. If you were to go for a 1x15, what would you like?
To be honest its a good sounding head, but perhaps not suited tomy needs. I thought it would be a bit more 'neutral' if you know what I mean. I can get a lovely tone out it on its own, but as I said since I want to get the whole sound out my board (I do alot of DI only gigs) I'd rather my actual amp to be able to simply amplify my sound. I found the LH500 I had did this much better but since that was a rackable amp it had the size and weight against it. I may move it on and just go back to an LH500 but being such a gear lover, I probably will try something different. As to what 1x15 I'd go for I literally have no idea - although I've always loved those older Peavey Blackwidow combos. If one was to come up cheap I may be willing to part with some squeakers and give it a go. Or perhaps two!
9. I would change very little to be honest. I'd go for some sort of Fender JP style bass. Not necessarily an aerodyne Jazz, but something of simliar quality with a hum free Jazz pickup put in. Amp wise though, I probably would probably change. I would likely get a 1x15 combo of some sort, to replace my 2x10 cab and Markbass head. I'm not precious when it comes to Amp tone as I prefer my tone shaping to be done by my pedal board so that the FOH gets the same tone at every gig. Aslong as the amp was not massive or extremely heavy I'd be happy. In fact I'd Probably be happy with just getting a couple of 1x12 combos. I run a stereo effects path so might be nice just to attempt the whole dual amp thing. Saying that, I'd probably end up just using one most of the time. Pedal board wise I have changed about a hundred times since I moved into effects a few years ago, so again, I'd not be overly fussed about what I get, aslong as they do roughly the same job as what I have at the moment. I would perhaps get a stand alone preamp pedal again, something like the VT bass though. Although the ms60b is doing the job well, the gear snob in me is not liking the fact I have two Zoom products on my board! haha
10. Yep I agree, I thought he was sounding pretty good actually!
11. Yeah I've had an ashdown, and pretty much ignored the meter. I'm sure it's perfectly accurate, but I found it exactly how you described it. As long as it didn't constantly max out, I'd be happy.
12. At wickerman last year, just on our last song someone let off a smoke bomb, At first we all thought it was just a smoke machine but then it quickly escalated into all the sides of the tent getting lifted and the place geting evacuated. Police surrounding the tent. Luckily we had just finished the song before it got too bad, but our emcee did have to spew as soon as we got out of there! Abit mental to say the least!
13. Yeah, There absolutely no point in doing it unless you already have a decent following. Other than that, Id feel like I'd just be taking advantage of my friends and family. Which achieves nothing anyway.
14.
The amount of times I got chord charts with the singer/guitarist saying "This one's in C", only to look at it & see that was the first chord. I was tempted many times to play in C, if only for the singer to find that the F makes their D a D minor.
Doing that though would make you the dick, not the singer/guitarist. As others have said, not all musicians have a grasp of (even basic) theory, it doent make them bad people (or bad musicians). If I'm ever in that situation i always take 'key' as being short hand for the first chord. I know its not right, and I know quite often its not theorically correct, but I just get on with having a bit of fun playing tunes in front of folk without going all muso on them.
15. This might be a very generalised question and a straight answer might not be possible but thought I'd ask anyway. I ahave a cheapo 2x10 cab fitted with a couple if nice neo speakers. I disconnected the tweeter, the last time I had the thing open I removed the tweeter and just left the hole. It's on the front panel between the two speakers. I might just be imagining it bbut the cabinet seems to be super bassy in some venues. Has this gaping hole totally knocked the balance off the sound of the cabinet? I think I've tossed the tweeter out so can't just put it back in to try.
16. I've played for 15 years and the first few years was a steep learning curve. The only reason I picked up a bass was cos my mates band needed a bass player. They were playing extreme, van Halen, vai etc so my first things I learned were hard! I don't practice at all now really. Although I play alot. I rehearse weekly which is more of a writing session, and my hand are currently gigging sh*t loads. Twice a week on average. I am as good as I really need to be. I can play anything that a covers band could throw at me. Sounds a bit arrogant but I'm sure many of you are in the same boat.
17. I play in a hip hop band but I couldn't pull off the hip hop look even if I wanted. The emcee of our band dies have the hip hop look though. I'm very much a black jeans black Tshirt kinda guy now. I've got 'skinny' jeans though that are stretchy which I'd never wear in any other situation but they feel comfy for playing.
18.
A bit boring I know but I quite like it!
How is that ls2 wired up? Ivery got a b3 on its way and I already have an ms60b so my pedal board will shortly look very similar!
19. Scott Devine talks about it and demo's the sound from about 2 minutes in, thats pretty close I'd say.
20. octaver with the suboctave on full and dry off completely then just a touch of grit after it to give it a bit of bite.
21.
The Ampeg PF's are actually quite bulky; you won't get those in a gig bag pocket. I currently have a 350 and have owned a 500 in the past. Great tone and feature packed but heavy for their size and bulky. I'd recommend the GK MB500 over anything else. Tiny, powerful, great tone and ultra-affordable. Truckstop
Really? I had the 350 and it fitted perfectly into my gig bag pocket. I wouldnt recommend one though as mine broke after 8 months and it was the same issue that alot of other users have encountered. I dont think I could trust one again.
22. Sounds just like a mildly overdriven P bass to me. Nice tone, and Id say its pretty easy to get. In fact I have an old OD nonamed pedal that gets quite a similar sound. A definite mid feel to it I'd say.
23. Just a quick question.... does anyone use (successfully) a basic passive style box at the end of your stereo effects chain to merge it back into 1 output for easy connection to an amp? Something like this for example? This seems to allow a merger from 2 signals into 1 (amongst other applications). http://www.thomann.de/gb/lead_foot_aby.htm If so, how does it work for you? Before anyone says LS2, I already have one on my board giving me a clean blend for my fuzzes and other bits and bobs but the idea of one less mix control interests me greatly and I quite like a bit of variety. In theory a box like this is ideal, but inpractice will it work?
24. I always run a zoom ms60b as a preamp, eq, speaker sim, compressor at the end of my chain. That literally never gets touched apart from the occasional eq tweak. After that my main fx are octaver and fuzz. I've got other bits and bobs that are integral to some of my bass lines therefore I kinda need everything. That's just cos I play in a hand that needs it though. If I was back playing in a rock band I'd either go without any effects, or just set the ms60b as a distortion, with compression. Totally depends on application. I personally think that putting effects on just for the sake if it sounds pretty bad, needs to be a reason behind the choices.
