  1. Fantastic bass. Weight?
  2. When you buy a Barefaced 112 you get to find out how good (or not) your bass and amp really sounds. Fortunately I was using Aguilar amps and Lull and Sadowsky basses and they just found another gear when I bought my first SC and another gear altogether when I bought the second.
  3. In March 1969 my Fender Precision cost me £120, nearly £1700 in today's money. That was the first "mass produced" bass I bought. It was a massive outlay for a young kid, but was definitely worth every penny. We don't know we're born today. CNC and Far East labour costs have given us playable basses for peanuts. Which is why so many can afford "collections". I have a cheap bass at home which feels good to play but you can hear where they made the savings. The pickups are OK but up against my Sadowsky they don't come close. IMO if you can hear the difference, more expensive basses are always worth it.
  4. One beneficial feature of the D800+ is the HPF. If you're pushing a 210 hard and it is starting to sound bad, you can dial up the HPF and tame the damaging low notes. If you are doing that and are still not loud enough, get another BF 210. Personally I'd get 2 cabs straight off. They are light enough and 2 cabs are always better than 1.
  5. Are you planting your thumb and stretching for the notes? My thumb is also going arthritic, but when I'm playing it's always moving around and most of the time I put very little pressure on it.
  6. Why are you playing with more left hand pressure on a long scale bass than you do with a short scale bass? The scale shouldn't make any difference.
  7. I got a swooshing noise out of my US Lakland when the battery was on the way out, also a nasty distortion from the Wal. My Sadowsky lasts a year, approx 80 gigs, between battery changes. I keep the old batteries to power my tuner.
  8. I've got a VTC on my Sadowsky, and I think it's effect is pretty subtle. The bass and treble controls are so powerful I don't have much use for the VTC.
  9. A breath of fresh air for music in the UK, and another TV producer that thought the music wasn't enough!
  10. I still own the Fender Precision I bought new in March 1969. It went through a serious modding in the mid 80's and hasn't been used since 1996, when I switched over to 5's. I'll never sell it. I'll be buried with this bass.
  11. A modular 212 is the way to go.
  12. No. They're better. You will sound louder, clearer, your dispersion will improve and your back won't hurt. As @Lozz196 says, you're sound will change. IMO it's not just a change, it's a night and day improvement, because you won't have a cab changing the sound of your amp anymore. You may be surprised what your amp actually sounds like. Get your ears tuned in and you'll love the sound. I bought my first BF cab in 2015 and haven't used any other make since. I use various combinations of SM, SC and BB2 but the 310 looks very interesting.
  13. I love listening to top payers, although it's not my favourite style of music.
  14. 50!! You're a youngster!
  15. The great thing about these stands . . . . you don't have to worry about the weight of the bass!!! You can buy any bass you want!
  16. Knowing what these lists are usually like, I'm surprised how many good drummers are on the list.
  17. I know you mean in terms of the general public, but he did get recognition. Motown knew he was critical to making their hit records and paid him $1000 a week, in today's money that's just under £7300. A week! That's £380000 a year!!
  18. So do I. I get colouration from the bass and amp, and use the cabs for volume. Like you do with your QSC K10.
  19. For a loud rock band I wouldn't choose anything less than a 410 or 212. The 410 could be 2x210's and the 212 could be 2 112's. If a 212 is too wide maybe the new Barefaced 310 would work for you. I gig in a stupidly loud blues rock band and use 2 Barefaced 112's and a 700 watt amp, and am never drowned out by anyone. I'd also suggest a trolley, but I hardly use mine since buying the BB2 and SM 112's. Even with a bad back, they are light enough to carry during 99% of load ins.
  20. Great drummer. Great players. Great songs. Great sound. Great audience.
  21. I listen to R4 and Magic Soul(DAB) in the car and R4 at home. One time I found a great station, Roots Radio (DAB), when driving in north London, but haven't been able to find it since. Occasionally I'll listen to various radio stations in New Orleans. Some great music that'll never be played over here.
  22. I stand on the left or right. My preference is to be next to the high-hat, but I play with a couple of left handed drummers so that can change. When depping they might have other ideas, so I'll go where they put me.
  23. What bass, strings, amp and cabs are you using?
  24. Bands like ZZ Top have been ampless on stage for years. IMO the lack of "soul" and not "feeling it" etc comes from the players being out of their comfort zone and letting that affect them.
