  1. I'm sure the extra permutations will help the BF bank balance and make a lot of bass players very happy, but when the Super Compact hit the market, my need for cabs ceased. £1000 112 cabs are not uncommon and IMO the best is worth that.
  2. As with everything Trevor Horn touches there's a lot of "production" involved, but the basics are all there.
  3. . . . . and great playing
  4. Just get out there and sing. Do as much as you can, you'll get better at it. I lost a few good gigs because I don't sing!
  5. I saw them at Brunel University. Very good band.
  6. What reaction do you get from your audiences? If it's a good reaction, maybe your guitarist is doing something right. Your problem is you are not suggesting songs the guitarist likes. Find some common ground between him, you and the audience. The last covers band I was in we had 3 rules, personal favourites did not get preference, every song had to have been in the top 40, and any song that did not get a positive audience reaction was out.
  7. If you only have 2 or 3 windings around the post, how difficult is it to use your fingers?
  8. The local festivals, big and small, are all about networking. If the promoters know you, if you have a good reputation, you stand a chance.
  9. Seems like t his is Alex's pet project. An amp with a fully configured preamp is on the way after this.
  10. Hi guys, updating pickups seems to be a thing with Sandbergs. . . . has anyone put in a set of Bartolini Jazz pickups, B-Axis or any other? Cheers
  11. The technique that millions of bass players use, and everyone used before the FT idea came along. Watch any top player and very few of them use FT, so it's obviously not a requirement, it's only one of several options. Many use fixed anchor, just placing their thumb one one spot. I use movable anchor which seems to be popular and is very effective and is just an extension of the 4 string technique. I would recommend techniques that build on existing patterns as being easier and quicker to get to grips with.
  12. Floating thumb is an option not a requirement.
  13. . . . . and you don't take them off, problem solved.
  14. As Bill says, any amp will be OK with any cab, as long as you are listening for the distress signals, but as a lot of people won't know what they are, my advice is be safe and don't risk it. In my loudest band I gig a 700 watt amp into 1400watts of cabs (2 x 112) and have never come close to having problems, with the cabs or the sound.
  15. Another tip. . . . there is no such thing as a 4 string song or bass part. A 5 string bass has exactly the same notes as a 4 but with extra finger placement options, and you have the flexibility of hitting a few lower notes if you feel like it.
  16. So 600 watts into a 300 watt 112 cab? I don't think so. My ROT ratio is 1 amp watt to 2 or more cab watts.
  17. Do you regularly take the strap off? I've had a set of the rubber washers on a bass for over a year and they are still perfect. . . . probably because I never take the strap off. They should last decades.
  18. Some of the best band leaders I've played with have been that.
  19. No Woman No Cry. An encore with a Reggae band, at a party in Reigate. Suffering with my back at the moment so I was playing my 7lb Cort Jazz.
  20. Jack is right, a double strap might help, but really you are not experiencing a comfort issue, you are experiencing a weight issue and straps usually don't fix those sorts of problems. If 5kg is hurting your shoulder you really need to buy a different bass.
  21. I played through another bassists Mark Bass MB250 and a TC 210 cab last night. We both got a great sound.
  22. I believe I had 2 JBL D140's in a Dual Showman cab, many, many years ago. So long ago I can't remember what they sounded like!! Sorry. My Aguilar/Barefaced rigs are warm, clear, clean, very light and as loud as I need in the many different gigs and dep gigs I do. I've used a TH500 for over 10 years, an AG700 for about 8 years and a TH700 for about 4 years. The tone comes from the bass and amp. These cabs are pretty clean and neutral, what goes in comes out, just louder. I'm not sure how that stacks up against your MM cab. I know one person here who couldn't settle on the Barefaced cabs he bought and went back to his Markbass cab. Maybe MB cabs are worth a look? As I said before, you can sound great, but I don't believe you will replicate your old sound with modern gear. ps Barefaced do a 30 day returns policy for a full refund.
  23. I don't buy on a whim. I buy the best I can afford and stick with it. I've played my #1 basses for 26 years, 14 years and finally 13 years.
  24. I don't haggle but I have made offers and I've had people make me offers. That's fair enough. The only issue I've had on BC was one guy who kept coming back to me, trying to knock me down, then trying to haggle over postage. Initially I was flexible but in the end he irritated me so much I told him I wouldn't sell him the bass under any circumstances.
  25. IMO muting issues are over stated and shouldn't be a concern. We all learnt how to mute 4 strings from scratch. Adding an extra string is easy.
