  1. That’s a proper tidy setup there. Very nicely presented. And some hot barefaced action!!!
  2. Oh man what a nightmare!! Bless yers. On the plus side, LOVE a Zep tribute more than pretty much anything. Good work - my hat is off to anyone who can take on one of JPJ’s lines, let alone a whole set! And yeah - if you don’t like the Toon then cities really aren’t for you! Used to spend a lot of time there for work. Loved every second of the place and the people. And the ale!! It’s off the bracket good up there!
  3. My dream bass back in the day. If these were available in 5 it’d be all I play!! GLWTS
  4. I’ve superglued my finger tips before now… that works REALLY well! Wears off (all over the strings / pups!) during the gig but forms a great barrier.
  5. See! THAT’S bad right hand technique… ice bath required! 😝
  6. Just sat down after my third gig with the challengingly named 4-Play. Yer bog standard pub covers at The Crown Hotel in Holbeach. Went down well: 20:30 to 23:40 with a couple of breaks. A little rusty and some canny blisters, not been playing enough at home. Few dodgy moments but I played some nice stuff until the end when it was plectrum out and hang on for dear life! Guitarist does that pub covers thing of just playing open 1/4 note down/up/down/up chords over everything towards the end of the gig - all dynamics gone. But overall, good! Fender Dimension USA Deluxe V, heavy D’Addario Nickels, GK 700 and Barefaced Big Baby 2 3rd Gen. I love my rig so much. Special mention for the thick plectrum with tube drive sound courtesy of SA Aftershock.
  7. Graeme bought a set of (barely) used strings from me… all good, recommended!
  8. Yeah your mapping and values are correct. Don’t know why that’s not working then… sorry for the obvious question but the midi data can actually reach the C4 through your host device? And you’re sending the CC to the midi channel that the C4 is on? I don’t know how “clever” the Ampero is, but some controllers eg Morningstar let you offset the displayed value given that midi starts at 0 and c4 presets start at 1. I don’t know if it will help, but sending CC 104 value 0 will engage preset 1 on the C4. Maybe you can program something like “long press loads preset 1, then short press sends ‘increment preset’ CC?
  9. Never heard of the Ampero, just had a skim of the manual! So - does the Ampero provide USB host? If not it probs won’t be able to control the C4. SA Neuro Hub is the usual solution for adding host to the C4 BUT SA are working on a cable that will negate the need for a Hub with C4. Assuming connection, you’ll first need to map the midi functions you want to use on the C4. Page 42 of the manual https://www.sourceaudio.net/uploads/1/1/5/1/115104065/sa248_c4_synth_user_guidev2.pdf You’ll need to map increment/decrement to a CC number of your choice. Hint: for on/off functions like engage/bypass toggle use 0 for off and 127 for on… Basically, send a CC number and value which corresponds to those mapped on the C4 to whatever midi channel the C4 is on and you’re away!
  10. Howay man!!! The Love Bomb costs more than my first car did (haven’t accounted for inflation)!!!
  11. Dayum that’s a nicely presented board! Show us your underside?! There’s gonna be some hot GigRig power distribution action going on there is my guess… 😬
  12. Sounds right. And of course the amp in question is blaring away at jumbo jet volumes and the guitarist still can’t hear it
  13. Really?!? Two guitarists on stage and the volume went up? You must be mistaken. “Well, I haven’t touched my volume” etc.
  14. VERY nice choices on there. But yeah, we all know it’s time for a bigger board now. Stop when two people are needed to carry it?
  15. Now THAT butters my parsnips! If I was in the market for another 5 we’d have done the deal by now. That’s sooo much bass for the money! GLWTS
  16. To be fair, if they’ve not done such gigs before the sound guys should tell ‘em before kick off to haul donkey offstage as soon as done. TBH every band at these sort of gigs should be told that anyway!
  17. Personally I use 1.5mm coz the cable is like 75cm long and max output is around 480w on my GK. Means the cable stows away easier! And yeah if you DO have to go with a jack at one end, make sure it’s a good one eg Neutrik!
  18. Well said. If you’re just playing bass it can be a breeze. As soon as you’ve (I’ve) been unable to help myself and broken out my harmony BVs and PA gear and mixing ‘skills’ in the slightly noddy but hard working covers band I joined back in November then it’s first in last out time again. Sounds proper now though, like 🤓
  19. £12 posted. Set of D’Addario EXL170-5. Regular light gauge, long scale nickel. Cut for 4+1 Fender headstock (a Dimension). Barely used: fella that traded with me had just fitted them before I got the bass: they came off in favour of a heavier gauge.
  20. Yesterday, THAT epic rock sound was done like this for me. The grin on my face, like! 1mm pick > fresh nickel rounds > neck humbucker > source audio aftershock > 4:1 comp > GK 700RB > Barefaced BB2
  21. The Keeley only draws 15mA, so I bet it’ll last ages on a battery.
  22. Friday was an hour 4-5, then loaning our speakers to a fantastic 8 piece vintage female singing combo (Vera lynn, Andrews sisters etc), then some more between 8 and 10:30. Bit rusty: drummer had a mare, guitarists not able to hear themselves, the usual nonsense. Dug out some real old ones. Great pub, got fed and watered very nicely! Long and chilly day though. Saturday eve with the other band cancelled - no punters in all day! Not heartbroken about that really!
  23. Everyone should try a set of Cobalts. They’re unique imo- their own sound. Tried the rounds but too gnarly for my fretted 5 - but sound amazing, just not in the context of my band!
  24. I like the classic P bass (and it’s responsible for some of my fave bass playing on various songs by various folks) but never enough to own one. Body’s too big for me, and whilst the sound of the pickup is great I find split designs get in the way of my fingers - terrible technique, I dig in far too hard! Fender’s Dimension on the other hand will be buried with me. Just enough of a P sound with better ergonomics and no split. And yeah despite all my basses having them agree with the bridge pickup being no use (for me). Likewise plucking near the bridge. Nah.
