  1. Some lovely boards here. @stewblack takes the “never even heard of that one before” award for me, which is always an excellent internet rabbit hole to head down! @Berserker - yeah the MS range is excellent, isn’t it? If you can think it, there’s probably a way to do it with one of these!
  2. Massive admiration for any fellow BC’ers that do pit work. That’s some proper skill. The show I’ve been op’ing lights for this week had a lad on bass who used to play with my lad in the school soul/concert band. He was awesome. Like: 21, still at uni, but as good as any bottom end I’ve heard in a west ender. And in my household, that’s a lot of west end shows seen! Good work @scalpy!
  3. Nice set up Daryl. Pumpkins aren’t that big this side of the pond!!
  4. Great amps! My home amp… I’ve gigged it and it kept up with our monster drummer in a small room.
  5. It does look good! A haze machine is an excellent investment, just presents lighting nicely. I’ve been operating the lighting desk for a local theatre company this week and I’ve had a REALLY big one to play with.
  6. There IS something satisfying about how a Bart pup ages, isn’t there? Which is weirdly niche! My 18 yo BTB with USA Barts has all sorts of finger wear, and a satisfying groove from where I anchor my thumb!
  7. I know you shouldn’t have to, but draw it in Word or something and send them a PDF?
  8. That’s really cool! That tuning with my bands would force me on to all sorts of dusty, untraveled parts of the neck!
  9. To add: with my main band, there’s two guitars and piano/organ/synth (you won’t know him, but he’s called Kevan and he’s a devastating keys player) so when it’s solo time for the lads I tend to drop below E when the key permits. Doubling Kev’s keyboard bari stabs on Mustang Sally with the low C. If you’re doing Brass in Pocket and Summer of 69 properly you need the low D. If you play any modern Country from the last 20 years there’s a good chance it’s a fiver. Etc. I love 5!
  10. Absolutely this - nail on head. I’ve played fivers only for at least 23 years if not more. With my main band there’s a lot of call for low B, C and D and with the other band there’s a LOT that’s easier to finger and sing harmonies over if I’m rooted around the fifth fret. For me too, that’s the main appeal. Nice analysis @lozkerr !
  11. Good grief! Is that a full fat Jap Prestige? They look like USA Bart pups to me. If so that’s the bargain of the century! I’ve a feeling this is an uncommon beastie… if it had 5 strings it would be mine!
  12. Killer poster! Hope it goes well!
  13. Late to the party but yes, this is excellent. A really strong original design. I like!
  14. Just bought a mono strap from @guyl - excellent transaction, thanks!
  15. Oh, and I carried Val Doonican’s rocking chair into a venue I worked at. Same venue had Ray Davies (prickly); Geno Washington (stoned, sooooo cool); John Martyn (somehow, I wasn’t there for that gig - IDIOT); Paul Jones from Manfred/Blues Band). Probs loads more I’ve forgotten.
  16. I sold a bass to Neil Murray, Whitesnake and bass for We Will Rock You for many many years. Lovely chat and a cup of tea in a Little Thief out Peterborough way. Top, top bloke. I grilled him mercilessly about the bits of Deacon’s lines that I couldn’t quite cop!
  17. Bought a book from Mick. Excellent transaction, thanks!
  18. Yeah the Schallers are ok but Dunlops are better in my experience. Great review: the non multi version is in my future for sure. Not averse to multi scale but I know the pickup angle and my thumb wouldn’t get on. You couldn’t be more correct about the the Nordies unless you were Carey Nordstrand 😀 Had some Big Singles on an SR a while back. Everything a bass pickup should be. Will I sound like Jameson? Defo no. Fine by me. Ibby 5s (apart from the BTB) are about the skinniest necks and string spacing you’ll find I reckon. I love Ibanez necks in all forms, they are GREAT at necks. Headstocks are a PITA for the pub gigs I play (mostly tiny) so headless appeals, and approaching 50 means I need to go lighter weight too. I hope you enjoy the bass… let us know how it performs live!
  19. I’ve got some Earpeace generic plugs: they’re ok. But really, don’t skimp, go custom moulded. I’ve got some old ACS plugs. (I think 27dB) and they’re ace. Must get new moulds / plugs though. Hint: always get your ears syringed and excess internal hair removed first 🤢 It’s STAGGERING the amount of hair in there from a) being old and male and b) haircuts! I might start wearing them when getting the barnet trimmed! 😀
  20. Oh man that’s lovely, and looks in great condition! I’m dimly aware that there are “not GK” bass amps in existence, but why would you when you can GK is my view 😀
  21. This is a very very nice bass guitar. What a stunner!
  22. Sunday afternoons are great! Sounds like a nice gig…
