  1. That's just the bass version of guitar strings eg on a six stringer you might user Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9-46
  2. Crusoe

    I is here

    Welcome!
  3. I'm another Money man. Maybe a bit of Good Times by Chic or Transmission by Joy Division.
  4. I don't remember my parents playing many records in the house. There were some old albums there, like James Last and His Orchestra, or Frank Ifield, and the old dads' favourite, Jennifer Rush. My dad liked a bit of Status Quo and I still quite like some of their older stuff like Piledriver or Blue for You. My neighbours mum had been a big Beatles fan so I ended up liking them and I remember he had a 7" copy of Golden Brown by the Stranglers which remains my favourite song to this day.
  5. Glad to hear it's gone well so far, so I'm wishing you all the best for your recovery.
  6. I thought it was a Rod Stewart song that the Stereophonics covered.
  7. I wasn't sure it it was the frets or pickups. 👍
  8. I can remember when I started playing bass in the early 90s, the advice in the magazines was not to touch a 70s CBS era Fender with an excrement coated stick.
  9. I don't hear anything that sounds like fret buzz. I can hear a "click", but I think that's just the strings hitting the frets as you pluck them, a bit like Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) sounds.
  10. I don't remember typing this... 🤔
  11. Disgraceful that there's no mention of Andy Rourke in this thread.
  12. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club did a meet and greet at a record shop, in Belfast, once. They were playing that evening. I took my baby daughter along. Apparently Peter Hayes was a tad hungover, so didn't turn up. Robert and Leah played a few acoustic songs. My daughter was getting a bit restless after a while and Robert asked the audience to move in a bit closer. He said something along the lines of "Bring the baby too". I got my copy of "Beat The Devil's Tattoo" signed by them both. Non-music related - I met George Best at a book signing once and got my photo taken with him.
  13. Well done and good luck (don't forget to than us in your speech 😄)
  14. An old neighbour of mine used to work as a nurse on a children's ward. One Christmas a patient had painted a nativity scene, but in the corner there was a large circular shape. My neighbour asked what that was and the child replied "That's Round John Virgin"
  15. Did anyone else misread the thread title as Rickenbacker=Harley Benton?
  16. Craft jewellery?
  17. Which one were you? Sir Killalot? Dead Metal?
  18. Don't forget Newcastle, Co Down, nestling in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains...
  19. Nah, he's actually saying "I'm buggered if I know what's supposed to happen" 😄
  20. I was never a big fan of Megadeth. I didn't mind them, but never got into them. I think it was Mustaine's vocals that did it for me too. He always sounded like he was trying to squeeze out a particularly solid poo.
  21. Until quite recently the old customs post was still in Belfast Central Station, albeit no longer in use. People used to come up form the republic to buy stuff like butter and take it home because it was much cheaper. Newry used to do a thriving trade in cross-border shopping, especially coming up to Christmas. About 25 years ago, fuel was cheaper south of the border and people would actually drive from Belfast to Dundalk to fill their cars.
  22. I don't normally like gold hardware, but it looks good with that blue.
  23. I was reading about the Beatles "She's Leaving Home", yesterday. Apparently it was sped up slightly for the stereo version to make Paul sound younger.
  24. The live album "Show" is great.
