1. Shame. Great bassman(
2.
Blimey 250 watts !?!?! ...that's twice what I was expecting
You'll not have to turn up all the way of course, but that should deal with any situation .
3. Mmm£200 for a light bass amp ...tricky . The way I see it, you need 250 watts to cope with loud drummer, and you would be fine with this in most pubs too. Markbass would've been my first recommendation , or gallien Krueger which are cheaper . Over to other basschatters ...
4. These days ; akg headphones ( cuts out noise from pram faces / bawling babies etc. ) & iPhone . Home ; at present I either just use ipad / tunein radio to listen to Canadian / us rock stations. Or I do the same thing using Mac mini /monitor audio bx5a studio monitors instead of ipad. In the bedroom/ hallway I have ceiling speakers / Cambridge audio amp/ nakamichi CD player . Haven't used this setup since brother has been staying with me. Living room ; Cambridge audio amp / b&w speakers(bookshelf) /TV . /pink triangle turntable . Again , not used since brother came to stay. Kitchen ; small radio/cd thingy for catching up with the news. Sennheiser headphones for listening to myself practising Bass , or late you tube gigs. Think that's it
5. Hated the doors when I was a kid ( except riders single). Thought they sounded too dated. Years later I actually like a few songs now . Think Ray was the most talented in the band. Definitely , one of the greates keyboard people of all time . Sad loss .rip
6. Many people will be watching the champions league final on sat. Don't know if tha matters much. Good luck
7. Dan lilker of nuclear assault/sod etc. timi grabber of Mercyful fate Pete Cruikshank of the groundhogs Harvey bainbrige of hawkwind Dd verni of overkill
8.
another one for Pat Badger! Seen Extreme on the last tour and he was great, so tight, just what the band needs! as for my personal underrated band... Symphony X (my favourite band) and they're current bassist Mike Lepond ... I've only seen them twice, because they're not big enough to do a full headline tour of UK, but each time they were amazingly tight, while putting on an awesome show! Better than Dream Theater IMO! Oh and of course my current band is far too underrated
Saw them at wembley support to dream theater. They were better imho
9.
I'll remeber that when some pillock points out that I missed the octave triplet and passing note 5th in the 18th bar.........
Yes, watch out for the beard twitchers
10. Good point by sponge bob . There is more stuff today , and it's a lot cheaper and easier to access than ever before. Left school in'79 , so missed Sabbath and Zep in their prime.(and never saw Floyd either). Would like to have seen ABba;) Missed cream and Hendrix and the groundhogs. Not too bothered by punk, as I didn't fancy getting spat at at gigs. When I was a kid, I used to listen to radio1/ luxembourg& Caroline. In my house, I was the first person out ofbed in the morning. Switched on radio around 7am. (It was a dansette with record player and a large lid). You used to get crackling rose by Neil diamond, lyn Anderson rose garden , mungo jerry baby jump, and the carpenters before 8am;) Hated disco(99% of it anyhow). Around '77 I didn't care about the charts on a Sunday anymore. I became a headbanger and my first gigs wre at the music machine, Marquee , Lyceum etc. if I could turn back time, I would never have worn all the badges . I still have a memory of walking about my business and my British Steel razor blade started to peel off the back of my leather bike jacket in the hot sunshine. I never had a motorbike either. So no, I don't think I would have preferred to have been born at another time;)
11. You'll be more confused than ever after all the replies you receive I would say stick to a Fender, as that's what you are used to. If you could get a fretless Telebass then you'd have the tone you require as well imho. Trouble is, I don't think you can get a fretless Tele .
12. In the future, I'm thinking of getting 1 or2 to show off my Washburn status etc. would the size and weight be much different from ordinary guitars? Oh, and are they expensive ?
13.
Plenty of modern surf bands with decently recorded bass. Here's the fairly "traditional" Los Straightjackets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H75hBXvjsw And the more out there Man Or Astroman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eKZoROEM68
Really good
14. Interesting thread. While looking at old telebasses on you tube, I found surf bands like the old retro vibe. Bass is definitely picked
15. .. Do you ever think that you will just end up with one bass only, whether it's custom made or your favourite etc ? If so , when do you make that decision ? When you quit gigging perhaps..
16. This looks a bit complicated to me. Have you thought about selling your amps/cabs and trying a different brand? You have quite a lot of power, but something doesn't seem right. L
17.
I have to wait until I can afford to convert the loft....
Sorry to hear that . Something to look forward to when it does happen
18. Loving all the replies looks like I will just dig out vinyl and play when I want to. Some of you may know about the brother situation. Once he goes, I can move things around again and be settled also, I don't believe in buying the same things in multiple formats. In the '80s I replaced a lot of vinyl with cd. If I want anything new, it will be cd.
19. Do you play anything by the cars??
20. Believe it or not, I still have albums on vinyl that have not been purchased on cd , or even mp3. Thing is, I'm getting a craving for some certain albums /tracks. For example ,Cause Of Death by Obituary is in my mind at the moment. Also , Cyclone by Tangerine Dream , and the first Roxx gang album. Bearing in mind, I listen to my sounds mainly commuting these days. My turntable is not linked up to anything at the moment. Come to think of it, I'm using my Mac mini or ipad through monitors , and am listening to Canadian radio at home quite a lot . I was just wondering if I really need to buy the downloads or just link up the hifi again. Does anybody else have this kind of dilemma?
21.
No, you are correct.
Thank you
22. Good thread this . Back in the late '80s/early nineties I used to get Guitar for The Practicing musician. It always had columns by Randy Coven, Stu Hamm, and others. I was just learning bass back then, and I used to get it for the tab. Had a load of kerrangs till the early'90s . It was a handy mag for gig info before the Internet . Sounds was okay for a couple of years nwobhm. Have all bassist mags(90s) in the loft. One issue rated the boss me8b quite highly , but the Bass whammy got a lukewarm review. Got quite a few of the old bass player magazines from the 90s . They used to make big feature issues from time to time.( effects,5 strings etc.) I thought tat they overdid it on the 5string thing tho'. They made it sound so daunting.
23. Grammar is a bit poor in the letter. Or is it just me?
