1. That's the thing! Before Internet , most/all of my stuff bought was through word of mouth , or you liked tithe look of the album cover & date I say reviews in rock mags.
2. Good thread ! back in'79 I started going to loads of metal gigs. I used to wear the bike jacket/ denim jkt and wore metal tour t shrts every day till I was in my mid30s. Even at work. The bike / denim jkt s disappeared when I was about 21. I used to buy vinyl twice , to get the ltd edition pic discs/ coloured vinyls. This went on until CDs came out around84. So you could say I was an over the top fan . I don't really think bands owe me anything. When I sold my Metallica test pressing ( I qued up at shades records for approx 4 hrs.) cliff. dsigned it and poster which paid for my very expensive tele bass;) maiden pic discs were handy to have at the time also. Quede for Alice cooper at virgin . got his autograph but a miserable b@stard. ( didn't realise at the time tho' he nearly died at the wembley gig I was at on the previous Friday ) Still got time for Metallica , and will see them again. I just buy CDs /DVDs and toto the odd gig now. I love early ambient( dream/ shultze/jarre) , but I didn't have to wear the outfit for them
3. Bump for other opinions , from other basschatters
4. When i was gigging, i was looking for something portable. I was looking for the walkabout scout, but nothing was around at the time. In the end, i went for aguilar db112 cab and ag500sc head. Not too heavy, and very powerful. But either of the above mentioned are all good. Markbass looks cool ,as does the freddie krueger stuff. I thinkmthere are a few basschtters who have this stuff also Forgot to mention wattage etc. if you play pubs, what kind of stuff do you play etc.
5. Obviously, it comes down to funds; markbass, gallien krueger, mesa boogie walkabout scout , phil jones briefcase etc.
6. Nice post You are multi talented . At the age you were starting, I was still breaking toys . For years, I was learning in birthday bands just doing root notes and taking instructions from Mr.Guitar ( who first showed me how to play bass) I put it down to the fact of; no confidence, always working ( very early hours ), and frightened to play out of the box in case I sounded too much like les Dawson . And growing up in a large family . It wasn't till I got my own space and had to relax and listen to cover songs that I improved. Also, in the'80s slap was everywhere and I was running before I could walk. I'm a metal head who hates most funk (wtf) Anyway. , back to the thread
7. Get the gas, then you have to make time;)

Like that arebig enough to play here. I will definitely get seats that are not so high up in the future. Look forward to the dvd tho' .
11. Welcome . Went to vancouver back in '92 . Great country. Love stanley park
12. Soundwiise, a bit muddy at times. sometimes they could have been louder. The bigger the venue ... We were nearly touching the ceiling tho'. I was a little surprised by their set this time around, but I love the '80s stuff. When you realise how much stuff they can leave out , proves what a great band they are. Never played the trees (
13.
I went last night too. Had no intention of going (60 quid a pop - no thanks) but a couple of mates had a spare going free so I went. Thought they played really well. I forget just what a great guitarist Alex Lifeson really is.
He is my favlouritr guitarist((either him or satch)

17.
Hey guys, I've just looked at my diary for the Winter 2013/2014 and it is awfully quiet. I make most of my money playing in a wedding band which is great throughout the summer but not so much through the Winter - Which makes the Winter an even more depressing time! I was just wondering how any of you pros out there earn cash other than playing weddings? Paid gigs around Glasgow are hard to come by. I have NO idea how to get in to session work, though would love to - And musicals is always an option for me too - Just contact a few MDs. How else do you guys get work? All help would be appreciated. Cheers!
Funerals ?
18. Apparently , he's got a new job on sky. Installing the dishes on the roofs .
19.
My Aussie accent isn't so good, but my Norwegian is decent.
Cool Don't watch much tv, but this Scandinavian stuff is awesome.
