I used some old lawn mower extension cable when I was making up up a long lead for our PA, no problems at all, and it's yellow, so easy to see

having an idle moment thought I'd check up DR prices, £40 seems the bench mark figure at the moment, mind you I've not changed mine for about a year and they still sound ok, roughly that's about 80 hours playing, I use my back up for practice and that's got a set of Neons on it off main bass last time I changed them, and they still sound ok,

this is true, our drummer is loud, I know some on here will say a good drummer can control the dynamics, but in all other aspects he's good and good drummers don't grow on trees, so by the time we've got a good mix we are loud in an average size room, micing up the drums for pub gig would be ridiculous
-
in an ideal world everything would got through the PA to a mixing desk, and in a bigger venue that's the case, but small pub gigs aren't the ideal world, you can be in a small space in a pub with punters already there having a drink, spending a long time loading in and out, setting up and sound checking can be a pain in the neck for everybody. We've used a PA (no subs) just for vocals and kick drum for nearly 20 years and we keep getting gigs so it can't be that bad

bought an own brand electro acoustic guitar from them, first one you could drive a bus under the strings, sent it back, got a replacement and you could drive a bus under the strings, sent it back got a refund straight away

we do that as well, love playing the bassline

Headphones for practice and general listening at home.
PaulWarning replied to Ramsay777's topic in General Discussion
there's been load of these Headphone threads the same names keep cropping up, I've got some Audio Technica ATHWS1100's, best headphones for bass I've ever heard, they'd be no good for mixing though, all the bass would be gone when listening through anything else 😊, unfortunately they are as rare as hens teeth. -
HOW hard is it to find a decent band to play in these days?
PaulWarning replied to Lfalex v1.1's topic in General Discussion
nice to know I'm not the only one, ages in our band are 20, 35, 61 and 71, though I'm the one who gets lumbered lugging the PA around 😕 -
Monkey Man, took me a while to get the fast run right, I do cheat a little bit and don't always get it totally right, but we do do it faster live (thanks Mr Drummer Man) but judging by other bass players I've seen playing it I'm not the only one

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!
PaulWarning replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Amps and Cabs
that's right, totally different animal, just wondering whether they've kept the Trace tradition of being very conservative with their power ratings -

Going off on a tangent I know but, I've got a couple of Trace heads, rated 200 watts at 4 ohms, never run out of steam and our drummer is a bit of an animal, they only weigh 13 Kg, if the Elf is similar it'll be loud enough -

PaulWarning replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Amps and Cabs
because it's Trace Elliot watts, they're a lot louder than normal watts 😀 -
if you're not going to have to lug it around an old Trace Elliot combo would fit the bill and sound awesome as well something like? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256321613206?hash=item3badf56d96:g:gPsAAOSwl4JlSR4A&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwGFhnWHhpJ1daDqWwYYSnosi92nNsZdnDSEaArVAsoIEHJLYjP7itsxIEPr1NXlDx1d63Q2q4q5RtWVB71ihy49pKYcH6Zj2fSE%2B%2Bt%2Famrzo7Bbrjklnb3ccnwbMeHJX7H8RWxcvS%2Byf3qVabNEbPErOzfVpLUWTMC2SSZkJXCw8BDAqEt3RcxnqZMtLKJkRzHjGl3FtwvpXjJnr6EA4jWAJgXNRrk8rDTHs34WK%2Bjg3r1yywlNKBTl7eVGR%2FsYHAQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR-Ddn9iEYw

so many variables, as others have said, £20 for 3 days including camping is dirt cheap so I can't see them paying a lot, we played a small biker's rally last year, I think we got £300, but it did include the PA provided and was only about 40 miles away

Public Liability Insurance for a band
PaulWarning replied to Woodinblack's topic in General Discussion
so was that your stage? if it was the venues surely it's their reasonability? -
Public Liability Insurance for a band
PaulWarning replied to Woodinblack's topic in General Discussion
ok I'll rephrase, has anybody claimed on their Liability Insurance? (not saying you shouldn't have it, I know the reasons) -

has anybody ever needed public liability insurance? shouldn't the venue have it? -
as the late, great, Reg Presley (of the Troggs) once observed, nobody knows, some songs just have the mythical magic dust sprinkled on them, if anyone knew what the secret was every track they wrote would be great, even the greatest songwriters have written some turkeys,

provided the pick up is in the same position as regards distance between the bridge and the neck, yes in theory, having said that there are a lot of different sounding Fender P's out there, just ask J J Burnell

joined my first band in 1979, and I'm still in it, the only original member though, and it did have a 25 year hiatus

For anybody that's thinking about hearing aids. Good hearing aids are available from the NHS, I know, I've got some 🙂 go see your doctor and get a referral
-
I think all us oldies know the benefits of ear plugs, because most of us have damaged hearing, stable door and horses spring to mind, hopefully the youngsters will listen to that warnings the we never got, not holding my breath though. The debate is whether pay out hundreds of £s on proper moulded ones or off the shelf generics, I couldn't get on with moulded ones

I've worn the same outfit, more or less for about 13 years, well not the same, it's like Triggers broom, thought about changing it but I'm sort of attached to it now
-
That is my set up, Trace Elliott GP12 not too heavy 13kg and 2 Fender V2 cabs 1 x 10 and 2 x 8, both also 13kg each, can't see me changing any time soon

a local band I went to see only used one IEM, I asked them about it they said it worked for them, like you say the trouble is if you have turn up the the IEM side to silly levels to compensate, an ear plug in the non IEM side might compensate for this
