  1. Did a gig last night using the XLR out on the Shure base unit, everything was fine. Can recommend the the Behringer MA400 for anyone with a similar problem. Thanks for everyone's suggestions, they've been invaluable
  2. my Fender V2 cabs have a tweeter rocker switch to select off, full or -6db, I have them off, sometimes they get moved accidently, I never notice till I actually look at them, tweeters on bass cabs seem counter intuitive to me. I never/can't/ don't want to, play slap and use DR neon strings which are quite bright
  3. Don't know about anybody else but I find it impossible to test an amp (or anything else) in a music shop (unless you take the whole band with you and do a gig) gear4music, for instance, have a 30 day returns policy, so you can try them out properly before deciding
  4. Not saying this was the case, but sometimes bands sound like an inaudible mess because they are 😆
  5. I read an interview with Macca a few years ago where he said he'd always had trouble with the G note being slightly out of tune on his Hofner but his luthier had done a lot of work on it and sorted it out, if my memory is correct and I didn't dream it 😊
  6. I play with a pick, I think a pick players nearly always cut through better live
  7. we played the Butlins introductory stage a few years ago, the bands before us had a loud bass drum and a bassy floor tom, before we went on I politely said to the soundman, we're old school can you go easy on the bass drum for us? we had a great sound as various phone footage confirmed, funnily enough all the bands after us sounded good too
  8. has Hail Hail Rock 'n' Roll with Keith Richards been shown anywhere recently?
  9. had a look tonight, there is an XLR socket in the back, when I asked why he didn't use it he said "Well it works from the other one so I never bothered" told you he was a technophobe, I'll try it at our next gig
  10. I've not actually looked at the shure base unit carefully, the singer says it's not got a an XLR out, but he is a technophobe, if he's using the instrument out it could explain the high output, we're feeding the PA from the MA400 via the thru connector. I found out you could reduce the output of the mic by 10db by holding down the channel button that improved matters
  11. I once bought a lefty electro acoustic off them, sent the first one back, ridiculously high action, second one was just the same, gave up and got my money back, good returns system though
  12. tried the Behringer MA400 at a gig last night, wasn't without it's problems, bit of buzzing through the PA speakers and the singer said his voice sounded like a Dalek until I turned the mic volume right down on the MA400. Most bizarrely of all the singer said the rest of the band were just as loud through his IEM except my backing vocals, but that wasn't the case the week before when he had his own channel through an in house mixing desk. The only thing I can think his his wireless mic (Shure SM 58 wireless) impedance is not compatible with the Behringer, making it super sensitive, the mic is high output when going straight into the PA his volume is about 50% less than no wireless mics
  13. over, Behringer BDI21, I know it's as cheap as chips but the drive control either does nothing or gives a horrible fuzz tone. Under, Zoom B1on, also as cheap as chips but seems to be one of the less popular Zoom multi effects pedals but, for me, gives just the right amount of overdrive and sounds better than the B1 four
  14. I've ordered the Behringer MA400 , looks like it's just what we're looking for, and cheap. A couple of reviews on Amazon said the output wasn't very loud, our singer has a mic with a high output so hopefully it won't be a problem Good point about the line through, hadn't thought of that, but like I said I couldn't power it up without my laptop, I've googled it and some others haven't got round that problem either
  15. I thought that as well, SOS is a far better lyric
  16. no, there's no direct out from his channel, unfortunately, the Behringer looks a good option, the only snag is our singer uses a wireless mic that doesn't have an XLR connector just a standard jack. We did use an in house PA at the weekend and he was happy enough just to have all his mic signal though his IEM, he could hear enough of the band, we only use the PA for vocals
  17. the band I'm in use a Yamaha emx 512sc power mixer which has served us well, we have one problem with it, it only has one monitor out and we have constant problems with the singer saying he can't hear himself through his IEM if the backing vocals are too loud, and I can't hear my backing vocals if the singer is loud enough to hear himself. Is there a way of adding a small inexpensive mixer to his channel so he can just hear himself through his in ears?. I thought a Behringer UM2 might do the job but I can't figure out how to power it up without it being connected to a lap top USB port. just looking at this https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/SubZero-SZ-MIX04-4-Channel-Mini-Mixer/SIZ
  18. yes but perhaps not quite powerful enough for back line only gigs, I'd go for the 500 watt version, plenty of head room then
  19. much to my annoyance I find FB strangely compelling, I very rarely post anything that's not band related and don't click 'like' very often either, but occasionally there is useful stuff on there amongst all the garbage. Had a conversation with our singer who is an avid Facebooker, he thought I'd deleted my account till I told him I'd just suspended it for my birthday as I don't want people wishing me "Happy Birthday" on there, adding I'll leave the attention seeking in his capable hands, he did give me a funny look 😄 What is it with people that makes them want to post pictures of their food?
  20. how much does it weigh? it might not be as hard to find a courier as you think and you'll get more money for it
  21. same here, got contacted asking if a band (from Sweden I believe) could record one of my songs, never heard anymore, guess they had no more success with it than we did 😂 Last year we did get a royalty payment for £40 for plays of one of our songs on Norwegian Radio, guess we ought to organise a Scandinavian tour 😀
  22. me too, trouble is I'm just as bad with names 😂 What were the question @Lozz196 I could do with some tips 😃
  23. I sometimes get recognised, (we're quite well known in about a 5 mile radius of where I live 😂) it's usually embarrassing because I have to try and pretend I know who they are when I haven't a clue, once when I been talking to a guy for about 5 minutes he said "you haven't a clue who I am have you?" I had to fess up, fortunately he found it amusing.
