  1. He got a good sound with a Hagstrum bass. They were a new band with Witchie Woman as their recent hit.
  2. When I bought my first Marshall it was a 200 Marshall Major. This was the bass version that looked exactly like the gtr version. My new amp from Mannys had a Dyno label on the back that said something like "bass" . Either Mannys or Jim Marshall made that label and stuck it on.
  3. It looks sleek , nothing extra. I messed my Ripper up with a third pickup-no help it was.
  4. I have the one pickup Jet. Mine does not get any twang . I wish it had a single-coil 50s Fender pickup like my Sire D5.
  5. If the bass drum is bassey enough I don't try for more bottom. The same amount for the bass gtr. Hit right with the bass drum is an impact you only get this way . BUT I've known plenty of gtr players who want a bass player to stay out of their 'zone'. Then I saw The Who 6 times.
  6. My only Squier is a Mustang Bass with competition stripe. It seems a bit scooped in the mids compared to my Mustang PJ. I went to Squier after the 'Stang went from $650 to $850. Both play good and sound good. The Squier was less than $500 !
  7. I like Daddario Pro Steel. 105 for short scale Mustang; 100 for long scale . They have a nice bite.
  8. Yes, it looks fine. Is it about the same size as a Mustang Bass ?
  9. I missed the Hoodoo Gurus this week in Nashville (Basement East ). The guitars have a good ring but the bass gtr is not mixed quite loud enough to suit me. Son Volt is the next band I would like to hear again-this month in Nashville.
  10. They did "Needles and Pins" first ?? Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks did it a few years ago. great song !
  11. That bass now has a metal pickguard . The new one does sound good.
  12. I found out the walnut version is maple top, sides, and back. The red is mahogany wood on top, sides, and back. Mahogany neck on the red, maple neck on the walnut finish and limited edition Pelham Blue .
  13. I have a Squier 'Stang also .Are springs better than foam rubber under the pickups ? Can those springs buzz or make trouble ?
  14. Glen was cool for sure. Unfortunatly I had trouble ordering a blue Starfire . I got the walnut color coming on friday .It may not sound like Tull. I use stainless rounds so it will twang some.-Grenadilla
  15. I have the blue Guild Starfire I ready to be shipped to me . Will this beauty sound like Glen Cornick's bass on the early Jethro Tull albums ? I used to play "Boray" in my Highschool band The Eye. I loved Tull then . Stand Up was the album.
  16. I've Got A Vein- Jim Crochet The Mark of Ignorance-Oatis ; Alabama Precision-Oatis
  17. They were a killer ballad band before disco. They went from a Rickenbacker 4001 to a Precision . Got To Get A Message To You , I Started A Joke, Massachuttes . They even came to Alabama !!!
  18. I got a similar Sire D5 and it has an alder body . The Squier has a pine body. Don't know what difference it makes in the sound. The tone is unlike a regular Precision. The machines are ok on this Sire and the price is a tad more than the Squier. If I were Sting I would buy several D5 basses.
  19. I use Old English furniture polish on all wood. It is cheap and gets the wood squeeky clean.
  20. Yes,and it is hard to boost the bass eq a lot. Sometimes enough lows, sometimes too thin. The 412 cabinets sound good mic ed .
  21. I bought two Sires I would recommend. They were only $534 from Pitbull Audio.
  22. I have a Mustang PJ and I thought it probably sounded better than a regular 'Stang with its smaller pickup. Then I got a Squier 'Stang with racing stripe. It gets deep bass like on the live Stones album "Get Yer Ya Yas Out".So now I respect the humble Mustang pickup .
