1. How did you get that unique finish?
2. Next time we get compliaments, why not say, "yeah, cheers. I mix the output of both pickups to a kind of low mid thump, with a dark overtone, then I let the compressor add a cool slam, boost 180 Hz by about 3 Db, add a notch of 7K, just to let the bottom end have a bit of air, then the signal is sent to the 4 ten inch speakers, with a hot DI feed going FOH". And then watch their faces change.
3.
Serious bass, definitely didnt sell for $15k before though. Stunning, and rarest of the rare.
I seem to remember it going for about £15K, so that would have been in dollars?
4. Jean Jacques Burnel. Paul McCartney, Bootsy Collins, Lemmy, Chris Squire, Mark King, Stanley Clarke.
5. looks like the headstock has been repaired at some point.
6. That's a great story. i wish I was gassing for something but I have been more that happy with my set up for a while now. Only thing I miss is my old SVT II, that I bought new in 1992 from A1 in Manchester. Great amp but just a little heavy.
7. I think it sold on ebay a few years ago for £15K, ish, anybody? Price is ridiculous but it's very nice. I'd like a copy of one of these one day.
8.
My copy arrived this morning - the fan pack is really a great idea. Mega magazine. The CD book format is very cool also. I'm enjoying the album so far. I'll give it s few listens before I make any comment - I don't want to make any RASH statements. Saying that, I'm enjoying the looser, "live in the studio" feel to the album. The track "The Wreckers" has a "Live At Leeds / The Who" vibe to it.
Like it.
9. Fair play to them for gigging and stuff, keys quite faithful
10. If pigs were ever able to take speed and form bands.....
11. The drummer killed it with one shot.
12.
I've just bought a QSC plx1602 for use with a Hellborg preamp and they are good value (especially used... actually may 'have' to be used as I think they are discontinued). Nice weight and the amp will go down to 2 ohms on each side, though I have no idea when you'd need to do that and I do find it annoying that it is advertised as a 1600w power amp when that is it into 2 ohms each side (500w each 4 ohm side is still plenty enough). Clip limiters, bridging and parallel mode are all useful (the bridging less so IMHO) and it is nice and quiet in operation (nice quiet power down/up as well). It has low pass filters and they don't make any discernible effect on what you hear from your bass cabs but they do stop your amp wasting power reproducing frequencies that you don't require/perceive. In summary, worth looking for.
Hi John, are you loving the Hellborg? I'd love to give one a try. I use a QSC PLX 3102, with either an Ampeg SVTIIP, or, Aguilar DB680. Having that much power on tap delivers effortless bass and when you dig in, the tubes compress nicely in the pres, giving you a gut wrenching punch. QSC for me, sounded better than a Crown I once had
13.
No, it's not bad. For loud metal (if your definition of loud is as loud as mine is) and with tuning down I'd suggest a big cab with lots of speakers. There are 610 and 810 cabs for sale here at the moment. You just need mates to help you carry it.
Totally agree. Down-tuned metal needs lots of power and lots of speakers.
14. Should say that I run EMG Pbass pups and added Jbass pup and EMG BTC pre.
15. A totally fresh pair of batteriers would be the best place to start. Happended to me the other week at rehearsals, oh how eveyone laughed when I had to remove my pbass scratchplate and sort this out.
16. Perfectly good, giggable rig, not shabby at all. As xgxjs, said, that is what can happen.
17.
'Pinky and Perky'
I love that too much.
18. Pain in the ar... but there are still some great basses out there. Hijack over. Sorry.
19. Yes, think you have to get them from Japan, unless someone is impoting them to the U.K.
20. Lovely. I'd love to try one, in lefty flavour but it that colour, love it.
21. I love em. Got one in my Jazz and a U Retro in my headless. They sound great and they like EMG's.
22. I own a 2x12" Double. They are fitted with Volt speakers and as a standalone cab can easily keep up with a rock band, even at 500w. My drummer said that this cab makes his eyeballs vibrate. God knows what 2 stacked would sound like.
23. What can I say. In the words of the great Paul Daniels, Not a lot.
24. If you get it, Steve, can I come over and satisfy my curiosity?
