1. First off, I love that headstock, really cool. Second, I bet it sounds great. Third, when I worked at KGB Music (Wirral custom guitar builder) we use to sell Fenix instruments. They were all amazing, I bought a Strat and it was a beauty. Mine had a copy headstock and body, ie, Fender rip-off. Yours is subtley different I imaginine to avoid the legal action. The graphics could be part of a range for different distributors? Really stumped on this. Still, it's a lovely bass.
2. I'm sure I've done one of these before but here goes. 1985, my stereo, blew the speakers. Not long after, Summer 1985, McGregor Bassman 200, into an HH 2X15BL. 1986, McGregor Bassman, into 2 1x15" ohm PA cabs. 1986, McGregor into a SVT 8X10" with replacment WEM speakers. 1986, Peavey Combo 300. (Amazing amp) Marshall Jubilee 300 head and 4x10" cab, sounded rubbish. Marshall Jubilee 300 head, into Peavey 1810. sounded rubbish. Peavey Mark VI, into a Peavey Black Widow 2x15" cab, sounded incredible!!! Ampeg SVT II, into my old SVT cab, with the WEM speakers. Played Reading and Finsbury Park with this, Superb! Ashdown C115, sh*te. Then added an Ashdown "Mini" 4x8", still sh*te. Bored now...will tell the rest of the journey after a cup of tea.
3. Classic piece of music. Was on my "Walkman" for about a year. Arhh, to be 15/16 again.
4.
Schaller is nice. But I don't believe you with a Badass/BBOT affecting the action. If anything isn't the baseplate of the badass thicker? action is more down to the neck.
Luke, that's true. The base plate is thicker but it's worth putting a shim under the neck.
5. The only reason I have a Badass II on my Jap Jazz, is because the BBOT on it had action adjustment screws that use to unwind due to the vibrations of the strings, oh and because the saddles use to move around the base plate when playing and because the string spacing could be set spot on with a Badass and because the action can be set really low on a Badass with plenty of behind the saddle string break. Apart from that, no reason to change it.
6. That's hit the spot.
7. That is so cool. I have a soft spot for 2x15" cabs. Lush.
8. Arggh! Missed this. Kev was a massive inspiration to me back when I first bought "Quirk Out" What an experience that was. I told my best friend at the time that I had just listened to "Bass from outer space played with grace". He agreed. Kev is still an inspiration, today.
9. People pay a small fortune for the best paper-in-oil caps. Black Gate caps are legendary in the hifi world. This is a wonderful diary.
10. Let's cut the crap and start talking about being the most undervalued, yet most important people on the planet, nay, universe....bass players. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grDl2aFJUrM
11. A brilliant company. I'd love to try their basses and amps. http://www.carvinworld.com/catalog/guitars/jb200c
12.
Bass Gear are now a UK Supplier. They have Amps in stock with basses to follow. I've got a Bunny Brunnel BB75 that had to be "re-necked". Job was done by Marleaux and it is my favourite Bass. It is one of those Basses where you just plug in and play. Must admit the headstock isn't my favourite design, but the Marleaux one suits it a treat.
I remember that. Wasn't Ped and, or Kiwi a previous owner?
13. I can safely say, we are through the hurtin'. All's good on Basschat. (Said in a Morgan Freeman, Driving Over Miss Daisy voice).
14. Anyway, Wayne, I thought punks were suppossed to be anti-establishment?

18.
I think it does depend entirely on the individual bass: my old 78 Jazz was a shocker - 11lbs 13oz, and not a great player, either, but it was mint and all original. The buyer spent a fortune on it, so they must have wanted it (they played it first), but for the life of me I don't know why. I think it speaks volumes that the highest prices are commanded by the ones which are most 'original', which have the ashtrays, and the original case. Says more 'artefact' than 'instrument' to me...
Best quote, yet and so true.
19.
I insist on drinking the entire contents of the bottle before even contemplating looking at anything that resembles Ann Widdicombe's arse. As for the sound of the Stingray, I find with mine if I plug it in with the same amp settings I use for all my other basses it sounds thin and scratchy. Even with some serious EQing to get a fatter, richer sound it's still over bright and harsh if I play anything above the 12th fret. Even my bright punchy hifi sounding graphite Status basses sound warmer in the higher registers.
I've just played my 1980 Stingray for the last hour, switched to my Status S2 Classic and what Rich says is totally true.

22. Unfortunately Martin Rushent passed not so long ago and JJ will not be arsed to tell you.
23. Hiwatt and carlsbro amps and speakers, according to Strangled, early 80's interview. (Strangled was the magazine run by The Stranglers Information Service, SIS, run by fans.)
24.
Unfortunately you are all forgetting one of the most important ingredients to the sound: JJ Burnel himself.
Martin Rushent.
25. I've always fancied Carvin gear. Dead honest, no hype, great value.
