1. logistical nightmare....and happening on my birthday. Cruel.
2. Ped, brilliant comp, well done mate.
3. You have got to be kidding!!!! I'm at Alexandra Palace that night watching Slayer, Sleep and melvins. How far away is Shoreditch to Ally Pally?
4.
Hated everything she did then and still hate it now. Nevertheless, 63 is no age and my condolences to her kith and kin.
What a totally pointless post. And why be a hypocrite and offer condolences to the family of someone you've never met and hate their artistic output. Strange and a little bit sad.
5. I'd love a lefty version. Any ideas where one might be lurking?
6.
Kai Eckhardt gets my vote - he's a smoking hot slapper/finger style player - metric modulation master - amazing composer etc; OK so this has a Jazz pickup on it but it's still pretty happening, it's a 4 string with 19 frets, and a Split P pup... And yes this is a Jazz bass - but hey still cool
Kai is a gorgeous player. His feel is stunning.
7. Price now changed to £2,195. Someone could have maybe got it for £1,495?
8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1979-80-MUSICMAN-STINGRAY-BASS-BLACK-ROSEWOOD-BOARD-/180885965349?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a1da4ca25 Some lucky right handed player should buy this now but the buy it now price is different to the price at the bottom of the listing. Lovely bass for £1,495.
9. Urb, what LC has don't here is very admirable but this performance does very little for me. I've just listened again but without watching the video and those horns don't sound good to my ears, it all sounded as if it was a massive chore to them. I felt no sense of fun or engagement from it. Sorry about the Brassed Off bit. I wouldn't want to offend any colliery bands.
10. Tried hard to like this but felt zero groove, or swing. Very messy sound from all those horns. IMO. Put me in mind of the soundtrack from "Brassed Off", whilst coming up on LSD.
11. Yeah, thanks Clarky, ya whopper. I missed out on a 73 Lefty Jazz at the weekend, I now want a Thumb Bass. It was Cass Lewis who made them look cool....even in pink.
12. I love it. I wish they did a lefty. It's just a little bit evil, the oak leaves just like the SS imagary.
13.
On the evidence posted in this thread his studio and live work sound like two entirely different artists. Personally I'll stick with his recordings, and not bother with going to see him play live.
BRX, don't miss out on him live, it's a good gig. Sonically challenging, beautifully complex and some great bass playing...I hate him, bastard.
14. I'd just like to thank Wateroftyne, for tipping me off over the buried truss rod. I didn't see it on the listing pics straight away. But the seller was very helpful and happy to provide pics of everything I asked for.
15.
With that much money involved I'd want to see the bass in person before getting into any bidding, and then pick the bugger up in person. Sweet bass just too much of a risk for me !
you're dead right.
16.
i think ebay does this once an item gets to a certain value
Arhh, never looked at basses that pricey before.
17. No case, was going to be packed in bubble wrap and a crate was being made to ship it in.
18. I was willing to get it for £1,500 and then get the neck sorted.
19. £1901, did anyone on here buy this? I asked for and received photos of the truss rod screw, which was buried well into the end of the neck, there is a 2mm shim under the neck and the action was just so high. I particualarly didn't like the way the bidding amounts increased from £10 to £60 for each bid.

21.
There's a lot of stuff that dictates whether or not you 'take care' of your gear, I think what it usually comes down to is the type of music you play, the image you wish to project and finally, just the kind of person you are. Me, I like my gear relatively clean looking, that's just the kind of person I am.
Your bridge saddles would suggest otherwise.
