1. Plus, he has the best house number in the world.
2.
Why don't you ask John himself? He seems very approachable and posts on here, or you could contact him via his website.
Indeed. He wears funky t-shirts and is a friend of Stanley Clarke, he can't be all bad. He has a lovely telephone voice, too.
3. Mark King is a master of bass. So is JJ Burnel, so is Kev Hopper, so is Chris Squire, so is................. These guys took the shape of bass and rearranged it. So is Huge Hopper, so is Lemmy, so is Macca, so is geddy, so is Richard Sinclair, the one who stops me in my tracks.
4. No. The only band worth seeing, would be Discharge.
5. Hi there. I did a repair on a Stu Hamm bass with the same pre. Get some Servisol and spray it, no, flush out all the 20 odd year old crap that must have accumulated inside the pot. Get paper towels ready to catch the excess. Put the straw into the small opening, on the outer edge of the pot, in fact, do the vol and pan at the same time, and give a 3 second spray, wipe all the gunk up after repeatedly turning the knobs back and forth. Hope this helps Steve.
6.
Crikey Tom. You really ought to be more careful who you sit next to. That dodgy looking bloke on your left is obviously a pickpocket...
Looks like a man bag, to me.
7. Hope you have a pain free night. Get thee to the supermarket and get some Brufen/codeine based tabs down ya neck. I had to play at a festival with a broken arm once, after falling off a skateboard...I couldn't skateboard. I still cannot skateboard.
8. It's been hot for the last few weeks.
9.
This is interesting. I bought every Steely Dan LP from Can't Buy A Thrill to Gaucho the week they were released so each track is equally well known to me. I just used to play both sides the whole way through. Years ago when you bought a vinyl LP and played every track in sequence you were familiar with all of the tracks unlike nowadays with CDs and iPods where you can more easily skip tracks.
10. The sound of the Rob Allen Deep 5 was something else.
11. That's a really lovely rig you have there. Good luck with the sale.
12. Sitting here, throwing nasty shapes.

14.
My neighbours will love me
Phwoor!
15.
I remember an old story where somebody was listening to Jaco practicing on that bass...once he finished the listener commented on how amazing the bass sounded, Jaco put it down and stepped away from it and asked "Really? Well how good does it sound now?". As good as Robert may be - he is no Jaco Pastorius...he was special. The bass is a bass.
Great post.
16. Happy five oh. Only 3 years behind you. You must now enter your golden age. Love. Steve.

18.
Well I'm going to be a small voice of dissent here. Of the few bits I've heard, I found his general playing pretty ordinary and nothing to get particularly excited about. The solo stuff, to me, is just unlistenable and tedious. I guess it's a bit like art, some people think poo stained sheets are fabulous, other people prefer watercolours.
Who would you consider extraordinary?
19. Jaco makes me go to uninvited places. I avoided listening to him for years, then when I did, it all slotted into place.
