  1. +1 I have one and have to agree with you @owen.. It makes a great noise, even with my playing ! 😁
  2. And even more so at this price too! It's insane for a cab of this quality.... GLWTS Jon.
  3. +1 to all the above.. That sums it up, that feeling of not being amazed, surprised or shocked by anything new that comes along anymore.. But that's our / my problem, not the fault of any new emerging artists. They're just doing their thing, totally immersed in it as they should be. New genres do emerge though apparently - Drill, Grime etc, etc.. It's just that I haven't the faintest idea what they are about though and I've no intention of finding out either! It's all too shouty and loud for a low-end old codger like me; I like elevator/advert music apparently, as made by the wonderful band that is Elbow! 😁
  4. Yep, each to their own in terms of which bands/artists we all like... Perhaps atypically, I've come to the conclusion that, the older I've got, the list of music I like is much smaller than the list of music I like.. And like you, my Dad said the same sort of things to me when I used to watch TOTP growing up in the 70s; 'he /she can't sing ', 'what is he wearing, - looks like a girl ', 'what an' effin racket' etc, etc.. And the more he disliked something, the more I liked it! I guess I've just morphed into a slightly more open-minded version of my Dad. That's why the occasional artists that comes along like Little Simz or Somthai - who I surprised myself by really enjoying - are a bit like anti-ageing pills that stop me from becoming as close-minded as I remember my parents and their friends were..
  5. I agree.. Think we need to lighten up around here though - a live music show on TV that gives musicians a chance to showcase what they do and reach potential new audiences is essential if we want to keep developing musical talent.. Slowthai is just the sort of artist who's music and performance gets a reaction.. Just like The Stooges, Sex Pistols, Public Enemy etc, etc did in their fay. I wouldn't sit and listen to it personally, but it's relevant to his audience and that's what counts. I liked a lot of the other stuff on the show too; Little Simz's band were brilliant - really heavy grooves and bass lines - right up my street! And Elbow can do no wrong AFAIC. Just my 2p worth of course.. 😊
  6. Absolutely! Good to see you back on here btw@GreeneKing.. 😊
  7. Many thanks Col, Always good to know that as well as having a great day out, between us all, we've managed to support some good causes! πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  8. As a general rule, I'm not in the slightest bit interested in owning a bass that's endorsed in any way, or is a signature model...my brain just doesn't work like that. However, I just loved the look of the Fender Roscoe Beck 5 String bass when I first saw one around 2006 - which was a good few years after they were introduced. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that, at the time, I had no idea who Roscoe Beck was! So in a way, the bass led me to the musician, not the other way around... As it happened, I found the research about him really interesting and learning about the design philosophy he had for the bass made it even more intriguing. So, when I finally got one in 2007, I absolutely loved it and since then, I've had 5 of them.. and happily, I still love the look, playability, sound and ergonomics of them. The only reason I've had so many of them over the years is because the dreaded Basschat fuelled GAS demons got the better of me and I stupidly sold them, only to then regret being such an idiot! 😁 Funny thing is, I don't particularly like the look of the 4 string model so have never wanted to own one?? Having said all of that, there are lots of signature model basses out there that I like the look of - the Nate Mendel being one for example - but none so far (other than the RBV) that have motivated enough to go out and get one.
  9. I have one of these and it's absolutely amazing ; super loud as @Dood has already said, but it's got much more to it than that - it's tonally very flexible and has a bit of 'heft' about it too! 😊 Completely surprised me how good it is to be honest.. Anyway, GLWTS..
  10. +1 on that at @Frank Absolutely love Dirk Wears White Sox.. We must have a chat about the whole Ants thing next time I see you..
  11. I was at that one too.. Small world!
  12. Hadn't thought of that idea @NancyJohnson but it has a certain charm to it... 😁 I started out playing a Hondo Rick copy when I was 16, then got a proper Rick when I'd saved up my pennies, so I always feel nostalgic about the idea of going back to one...
  13. Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper band) was the bassist who influenced me most before I actually started playing bass..
  14. Got to say @Frank Blank, I think that's my favourite post of the year so far ! As a bass player, I'm biased obviously, but there's a lot of truth in what you've said IMHO.. Thinking about the lack of younger people attending the Bashes, I think there may be economic reasons behind it too. Let's face it, its not the cheapest of hobbies to take part in is it? specially with this place driving the GAS at full throttle!! 😁
  15. IIRC, 2007 was the year of the Northampton national Bash Dave.. I remember having an absolutely hilarious road trip up there with @WalManand @Merton.. It was a great day.... 😊 Despite it being the Bash where a guy (who's name escapes me) played slap bass at max volume for about 4 hours non-stop.. How no one decked him that day, I'll never know! Happy days 😁
  16. Courtesy of today's mercifully short Raffle draw, that Q-Tron made its way into my kit bag thanks very much @TrevorR.. It's great fun and I'm looking forward to using it.. (Along with the one I own already!! 😁)
  17. Yep.. Well said, Paul!
  18. @Wombat Got to say Matt, that's an amazing little piece of kit! Thanks for bringing it along... πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  19. Last of my photos..
  20. Here's a few photos...
  21. Had a great day today and thanks to everyone who came along to make it yet another successful Bash! Got to say a very special thanks to Pete Stroud aka @mybass for being our guest speaker... Pete's talk was really enjoyable; full of humour and useful insights into his career, his playing and his very interesting approach to building basses! Thanks Pete - really appreciate it! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ Another big thanks also to Colin aka @Hamster, Sarah, aka Mrs Hamster and Gary aka @cetera - without their enthusiasm, energy and support, the Bash just wouldn't have happened this year! Great to see/hear some amazing gear in action today, from @cetera's amazing Spector custom shop, to @pete.young's Dusenberg, @orangefriday's LED home build bass, @Frank Blank's Godin...amongst many, many others!! We definitely appreciated all the help setting up and packing down btw, so thanks to all who contributed there.. Anyway, it was a fab day and thanks again Folks! Looking forward to reading Sivia' Bijou Blog when it's ready too.. 😁 Nik P. S. @The Greek - Mick, I'm so sorry I didn't get to see/meet Laurence Cottle, am gutted about that, but thanks for inviting him along.. And sorry not to see you either!
