  1. Is it just me, or does this say Michael Jackson to you?
  2. Mine is fantastic, and I think I paid a bit more (albeit via the Bass Gallery)
  3. I thought this was a bit sad (but predictable of the music business....Quote from today: In 1989, Rourke and Joyce took Morrissey and Marr to court, arguing they were owed an equal share of earnings, having only earned 10% each of the group's performance and recording royalties. Rourke settled for a lump sum of £83,000, but Joyce persisted with the legal action and was awarded around £1m in backdated royalties, and 25% thereafter. Rourke later filed for bankruptcy in 1999. It's a sad day, and 'This Charming Man' is one of my favourite basslines to play, albeit I attempt to play it finger style...which is probably a mistake!
  4. Great minds think alike! Congratulations. I was drooling over the Demeter, and will just have to keep playing my R400!
  5. A little funk jazz impro night then?
  6. What big, heavy, ideosyncratic and make an amazing amount of noise?
  7. I put up my hand and say I am not an electronics expert! I have a couple of Fender Custom Shop Jazz's which have relatively low output pickups and I find that pushing the signal through a Noble PRe-amp really gives that vintage sound. I have added a Cali 76 Compressor to even out the response of the strings and to help between styles of playing. At home I play the combination through a PJB set up including an Ear Box. At some settings of the Compressor there is a wasp like buzz from the Ear Box. I am pretty sure that I haven't bust one of the Ear Box speakers and I have changed over the valves in my Noble, in case one of them had gone. Can the Compressor attenuate unwanted harmonics from Valves? And/or are there particular settings of the Compressor that Is should avoid?
  8. Lakland are some of the best put together basses about and the Skylines represent pretty good value. Depending on the model they also offer a lot of P/up versatility.
  9. Can I be a heretic and say I like it more than the original
  10. I have sung a lot and played the bass a lot, but hardly ever together, for the reasons lots are quoting. I suspect the answer, as many have said already is practice, practice practice. The two most obvious examples of when learning behavior becomes learned (automatic) behavior are: learning to juggle (when its obvious the precise moment you go wrong because you drop something), or learning to drive. The point about practice is to get the pattern into auto-pilot, and sometimes it takes a lot of practice
  11. could explain the Jensen DI add on? I understand about valve DIs (I am the proud possessor of a Noble)...I just can't see what you mean....
  12. Chew, chew Barney McGrew.....time for Trumpton
  13. This has more than a passing 'Chas and Dave' look about it....and who was the famous guitarist who used to play with them?
  14. Talking of metal, that Bridge looks like it was last seen in the Tower of London Armour Collection......albeit a thing of beauty.
