  1. I think I just figured out how to do this...
  2. Had the beer got into your camera Jack? Has someone lefty just randomly asked for their maker's transfers be put on upside down, or was it a luthier's vengeance?
  3. Are you implying a Womble played on 'Relax'? Now that would have been good to see live
  4. Blimey, without taking anything from that (which was fantastic) I thought FGH were slightly infamous for having session bass players playing the album tracks?
  5. One of the more insightful vids I've watched for a while. I need to find where I left that pick! I was so glad I saw Tim play with TTB, but I now understand a lot more what he was up to, and why he was in the band.
  6. We once played Knebworth (the village hall, which happens to look out onto where I would guess the festival was held). For many years Hugh McKenna from SAHB had been our piano player (now VERY sadly RIP). I was sitting next to him outside said venue...me with pint, he with pint of Red Bull. I asked Hugh....so you supported Led Zep here didn't you Hugh......what was it like? And he turned to me and said: 'do you know there's about 10 years of my life I can't remember Piers'. He said it in his characteristic ironic way, which made us all laugh. He was so glad he got off the rock and roll lifestyle and had many happy (if slightly impoverished) years playing with us. Meanwhile, I am still slowly ticking off those Camden Pubs! Great thread by the way...I'm waiting for the first BassChatter to claim Woodstock........
  7. Presumably its the twisty mountain passes that attracts the bikers. One of the most beautiful parts of the whole UK. Enjoy! (gig not the drive)
  8. I particularly liked the description of Rosewood fingerboards being added as an option because players didn't like the look of dirty fingerboards. Clearly Custom Shop wasn't a thing for some time
  9. I parallel tested my 77 Precision against a Lull Precision in Bass Direct a few years ago. I came away thinking my Fender sounded more Precisiony (Read Peaches: Stranglers sound), but it ways a ton and I have had to do quite a lot of work to keep it up to snuff....so horses for courses.
  10. Perhaps he is the only one that doesn't pay any attention to the (very nice) vocals??
  11. I really liked your vid. Tight guitars, great harmony vocals and a nice looking Mike Lull Bass (?). What's not to like!
  12. Was there anything in particular that made Fender start making them then?
  13. That's almost the first year of factory produced fretless P Basses isn't it?
  14. Is that proper Lake Placid Blue?
  15. Do you know where the Wal is now? I often wonder where mine got to. Do you know its Serial Number?
  16. Thank you Tony. You've joined the fun . Who needs Facebook!
  17. I stand corrected! Mine's 1982 (with a single string guide)
  18. It has twin string guides too, which reinforces the idea it's slightly later.
  19. Serial Number?
  20. I agree with this. My musical taste goes backwards in time not forwards. Brown Sugar is one of my favourite tunes to play (when we are allowed to), because of how it sounds.
  21. I think I might have asked you this before Jazzyvee, but doesn't the super-filter just duplicate the onboard parametrics in an Alembic Series Bass?
  22. I know this is a 'show me your rack' section, and I can read the words, but (not being a studio engineer), I'm not entirely sure what 'have changed over to the Quad Cortex in the studio, although I do run the DI channel through an RND Shelford and an AMEK 9098 comp/lim..' means. It sounds and looks impressive though!
  23. When I was at Uni I harboured a desire to be a professional rock photographer. I did see a lot of fantastic gigs which with the benefit of hindsight were great. Pragmatically, I discovered that there wasn't much money in it it, and I was glad to get away from all those egos. I did learn bass properly (for the first time) though. In a world of Student Fees, I suspect I wouldn't have given it a go if I were doing it today. And I am happier today to be doing something I love (play music with friends) without the pressure that is being in a successful band.
  24. What a great blast from the past. If the Mekons and Gang of Four weren't punk, they were pretty alternative. My first bass teacher was Dave Bowie, who played in the Mekons from time to time. I seem to remember they were a bit of a 'collective'
