  1. When I was at Uni I harboured a desire to be a professional rock photographer. I did see a lot of fantastic gigs which with the benefit of hindsight were great. Pragmatically, I discovered that there wasn't much money in it it, and I was glad to get away from all those egos. I did learn bass properly (for the first time) though. In a world of Student Fees, I suspect I wouldn't have given it a go if I were doing it today. And I am happier today to be doing something I love (play music with friends) without the pressure that is being in a successful band.
  2. What a great blast from the past. If the Mekons and Gang of Four weren't punk, they were pretty alternative. My first bass teacher was Dave Bowie, who played in the Mekons from time to time. I seem to remember they were a bit of a 'collective'
  3. What a great story. It makes me wonder how many Wals are lurking in Ealing (Confession I have two, but they are both lefties, and I didn't pay really stupid money for them)
  4. Jimi Hendrix seemed to manage somehow
  5. You would be a Geordie asking a question like that.
  6. Do you play any Dr Feelgood numbers?
  7. And of course, it never rains in Manc.....
  8. How did they keep an upright piano in tune? What an amazing piece of Vid!
  9. But fantastic playing all the same...respect!
  10. Wasn't Rory Gallagher's trick to leave your guitar in a ditch for a couple of weeks....
  11. That is a stunning bass and takes me back to Haircut 100!
  12. Is there a familial likeness there, or is it just the shades? Great photo!
  13. I suspect it might have had a new fret board, but it looks absolutely fantastic for it.
  14. That's a beautiful looking Stingray. It looks like you have polished it within an inch of its life!
  15. And my 77 P is 42mm, but it's a leftie!
  16. What a great throw back. That's very different from the single I have somewhere of it. I seem to remember Larry Carlton played on it. Do you know who the bass player was?
  17. I do like the pictures of King Charles. they add a certain 'authority' to you all....esp the drummer
  18. That looks a really nice bass.....if you like that sort of thing and are a leftie
  19. Great minds (almost) think alike...
  20. No I don't. I have a Mesa D800+ where I put the Noble on the front end. My alternate is a Handbox R 400 on its own, which is a bit less subtle.
  21. Thanks. I do want a functioning bass, but won't that impact the value of the bass to the obsessively 'is it original' brigade?
  22. Well it's not quite glam, but it's an Alembic
  23. I have a pre-EB Musicman which has developed a horrible shorting like noise when I plug it in with certain jack-leads. I recall from another thread recently a basschatter talking about very slightly diffent sized jack plugs. Looking at what seems to make a difference with mine, using old leads where the jack-head has been screwed tightly into the plastic retainer causes the jack to sit very slightly further out (and does not short). Having taken the control unit off the Musicman, the whole jack socket assembly is an old sealed unit that I really don't want to muck about with. Has anyone else experienced his and/or what advice would you have? Ta
