In fairness, this is a discussion on politicians rather than politics. I think it's fair comment to say that politicians, these days, exhibit a marked tendency to stay in post when they have done things that would have been career-ending a few years ago. I should add that this is not just the UK either. There was a time when openly mocking/imitating someone with a disability would have been the last time such a person was able to aspire to/hold any kind of political office.

Absolutely. I was trying to persuade and nothing more for exactly that reason. I maintain that having the thread available to someone landing on the page for the first time is preferable but fully respect the right of the admin/mod to act as they see fit. Anyway, I'll get back in my box now. 🙂

I did PM Hamster but had thought my PM was being ignored. Possibly wrongly.

I do play it a fair bit. My 'office' at home is also the 'music room' - the apostrophes are used to indicate the generosity of using those terms - and so my basses are all in the same room with me during the day. I will pick one up (or stand up) and plunk away when tax becomes too dull to contemplate!! 🙂

Whingeing? I am questioning, that's what intelligent people do. Obviously we cannot protect the world but we have had some success for people, because he has refunded some (who believe that this thread facilitated that). It seems a shame to take our foot off the gas when we are having that success. Maybe it's my old training. Once you sink your 'tax' teeth into something bad you tend to keep lock them shut. He's not ripped me off so it's no financial skin off my nose but he's getting one over on virtual friends/colleagues of mine and I take exception to that. Hamster, yes I am disappointed but I also recognise that volunteers aren't going to put themselves in the firing line needlessly. He's hardly John Hall but the principle is the same (and it's your ball). 🙂

Which future member (and potential victim) will know any of that? Once the thread has dropped off the first page it is invisible except for those in the know. I think we should keep a warning about this guy easily available. I found the comment from the admin (caveat emptor) rather disappointing. Given that Mason can see all this we seem to be nothing more than keyboard warriors. The pressure we had brought to bear caused some to be refunded and for outlets for his criminality to be reduced.

I will look into it tomorrow and post the response. You will get the VAT back but I will check the mechanism.

The long and short of it is will cost you a bit more than before. Frankly, if you want it and it may not be available for a while, I would be going ahead. You will pay a few quid more and you will have to wait an extra few days but that could be worth it, in the scheme of things.

I have been told that it is down to caveat emptor.

Delusions.

Maybe I should rephrase my question. We, as a community, know about an active fraudster. How complicit are we if we are open to the accusation that we enabled him by shutting down an effective warning to others?
-
I own one. 🙂

Not sure how there is any legal threat around the thread but that is not my question. It seems to me it is important to keep this individual above the radar. With the specific thread locked, this drops down and eventually out. How can we make sure that our community is aware (and on the look-out) for him and his activities?

They are superb amps for sure. Love mine.

Maybe they were just being rebellious. I'll get my coat. -
I suspect the carnet situation is going to be the killer aspect.

Let me check. The news came from a VAT firm called Avalara who are really good on this stuff.

I'd be tempted to have a serious look at the Nate Mendel in the ads at the moment,

I believe it is as I said, Thomann importing into the UK and selling within the UK. That is consistent with the HMC guidance published. German VAT is 19%.

France looks ok from this but I didn't look at other countries that you might go through to get anywhere.

From HMRC Entry requirements If you’re travelling to the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein for less than 90 days in a 180-day period, you may be able to do some things without getting a visa or work permit, for example going to a business meeting. You may need a visa, work permit or other documentation if you’re planning to stay for longer than 90 days in a 180-day period, or if you’ll be doing any of the following: transferring from the UK branch of a company to a branch in a different country (‘intra-corporate transfer’), even for a short period of time carrying out contracts to provide a service to a client in another country in which your employer has no presence providing services in another country as a self-employed person For France (gateway to Europe for many) to stay longer, to work or study, for business travel or for other reasons, you will need to meet the French government’s entry requirements. Check with the French Embassy what type of visa and/or work permit you may need From French Embassy UK citizens going to France to work for up to 90 days will not require a visa. They will need to obtain a temporary work permit unless travelling for a sporting, cultural or scientific event, a seminar or trade show, the production and broadcast of cinematographic and audiovisual works, modelling, IT/ asset management/ insurance/ finance/ design/ engineering audit or expertise missions.

I got a Burman one on Ebay for similar money. It has a row of lights to denote the voltage.
