Wow. Only paid £575 for mine. Of course that was in 1986! That said, the E string was pretty much dead (even after changing strings). I bought Japanese Fenders to take out on the road - theft is an ever-present threat, no matter how careful you are. I tend to use the 'old ones' for recording more than live work. They do get the odd trip out, though.

They weren't in the 'Spoons at Wrexham the other evening were they? Ceiling came down and two people tried to make a claim but CCTV clearly shows no injuries.

Where is your amp in relation to the drummer? I set up slightly back from the drummer and slightly angled towards him. That works for us perfectly well.

Remember Graham from Arms and Legs, the band from which the Joe Jackson band was born. They were a Pompey band.

All my guitar/speaker cables are Evidence Audio now. If they're what David Gilmour uses then I'm taking that as a recommendation. Quite an investment, mind.

That last sentence sums it up for me. Potential band members are auditioning the band and its members too. I wouldn't want to be in a band with someone who seems to be just that - a member.

Along similar lines, the Manics were putting aside Rickey Edwards 'cut' for a long time after his disappearance. May still do, as far as I know. I believe Queen eventually did the same. I do know that Roger Taylor got the same royalty for I'm In Love With My Car as FM got for Rhapsody as they were both on the same (single) disc.

Missed posting pre-gig but AWB at Guildford G-Live were just brilliant. Wonderfully tight and they appear to found the ghost of Luther Vandross. Their vocalist is just incredible.

My chum Brendan (did a good few years with Rory Gallagher) has come back from a short tour to find his hardware case missing. From his FB page:- Stolen from E12 East London !! The last gig I did with my own kit was with Band of Friends at Nells Jazz and Blues club. Since then we’ve done two short tours in Ireland and Holland. So you can imagine my surprise when I opened the boot of my car yesterday to find an empty space where my traps case should’ve been, a couple of other small things were missing from the car but the hardware is a massive loss. A mixture of DW, Pearl and Sonor stands and accessories. Just putting this out there in case someone might be offered it to buy. I’d appreciate if you could share this post. Many thanks A long shot, but please be aware of any cheap hardware.

I am exactly the same, in reverse. I have got a maple board bass (and have had others) but never end up keeping them. Maple just seems 'hard' to the touch. A bit like a piano with a poor action. All very odd but perfectly natural. Vive la difference.
