  1. When you hear alot of these isolated tracks, there is alot more hums and buzzes, open strings ringing out etc than I would be happy with. But, I'm slowly beginning to get my head round over the years is that it's more to do with the performance, rather than technical perfection! Performance trumps technical perfection every time.
  2. if it seems to have reverb then there's a good chance you're hearing 'direct monitoring' at the same time as the recorded sound. Even when set up great theres going to be a slight latency between you playing and whats recorded... milliseconds... but if it's low latency and you set it up to record what you sound like through the recording, then you'l barely notice the latency. Doing 'direct monitoring' just means you hear exactly how you sound with no latency. However, if you mix the two together you'll get an echo effect. It's always the one or the other for me, not both. Definitely got the Hi-Z switched on?
  3. Next instalment. with a little help from some friends.
  4. I've been doing a load too, with my own band, and other random muso pals! It's addictive once you get into it! This sounds awesome. I've used alot of phone audio in mine and its quite astonishing.
  5. As others say, most pubs are absolutely fine. Cant recall ever playing a pub where I've felt in danger of any sort, and i can only think of one bar fight whilst playing. Load in/loud out vary massively too, as with any type of gig - some of the wedding gigs I've done have been horrific. But I think that is more down to what gear you decide to take, and if the band have a sensible PA. Some of the PA's ive seen in pubs are simply stupid. And then theres the drummers that insist on having 20 cymbals to play some classic rock covers, or the guitarists who need to have their 2 4x12's to play to about 30 folk. If the band are sensible, then load in/load outs are ok. My load in is on trip. bass on my back. Amp in one hand, the other hand free to open doors. If you enjoy playing the set, then I think the positives outweigh the negatives so go for it!
  6. Nope! 😂 I could've went substantially deeper, so if you take more away then yes it'll make a difference.
  7. I had their cheapo Jazz copy a few years ago. It was unbelievably heavy! Drilled some wood out from under the pickup cover which helped slightly, but was still very chunky! excellent bass to play though! Bet this is similar!
  8. Thanks man! Although I'm not on bass here, I'm on keys! This is Rurairdh - outstanding bassist and has a lovely collection! Not sure if he logs on here or not actually. But aye, I've only really got two basses, and id probably only record with the ACG - so anytime you see a bassist not playing an ACG single cut, then it's not me!
  9. I had one of the guitar ones. Purple haze, or something like that. I loved it although it was very much a one trick pony. I took it to a rehearsal and cranked it through a marshall 4x12 and it was a bawhair away from being loud enough to keep up with a loud drummer and 2nd guitar. It was actually quite comical having it sit on top of a 4x12. I would imagine this is not much different. It's worth noting though you won't get the cab sim through the FX send, so you might lose the 'warm' tones you'd hope for if either you were going through a cab, or even through the 3.5mm jack.
  10. Dont get me wrong, I get the idea of this kind of set up, and no doubt it will get more popular as it gets cheaper. However, I still think there's a fundamental problem with having things like ipads and laptops as your main audio source, for live gigs. Its just another thing to go wrong, or another set of problems you'll need to overcome. Dedicated boxes just work. You switch them on, and they work. If you've mucked about with settings so much that you can't get a good sound, you just factory reset. Dead easy. I just don't think this type of setup really gives enough of an advantage unless you're going into timed delays and programmed reverbs etc, then of course doing all that on a laptop or ipad would be far easier. But lets be honest, most folk dont do that. And most of the folk that do that, are wasting their time doing that. Might sound great through their IEM's but out front there almost nothing of an audible improvement. To be fair though, it's nuts to think we can now have a mobile phone as your 'amp'. What a time to be alive!!
  11. Funnily enough the desk I have is the same design as that shelf. If they do that thing in black then it might pass off as being one piece with the desk! cheers
  12. Thanks for sharing this. As soon as its possible, I'll be doing this! A Very tidy and cheap solution to the problem I'm having with getting my studio monitors ear level!
  13. Thats fantastic!! I love the little triplet thing he does at 40 seconds! Great advertfor the bass too!
  14. Interesting! I've never seen the b1-4... is this more in line with the b3n chip set then, do you know? I wasn't aware of that. Id love to hear a direct comparison to really hear the difference. I may need to just buy one (or the b1-4) to test it myself!
  15. alrighty folks I own the b3n at the moment, and i did own the ms60b previously. I was happy with the ms60b at the time, and im happy with the b3n at the moment. However, I simply don't use the functionality of the b3n at all. ie I literally use it for amp/cab sim, comp, octaver and tuner. And for that set up, I only need one foot switch as everything's always on except the octaver which is switchable - the ms60b is perfect for that. I also like the idea of going back to a single boss size pedal as that basically means i can fit everything in my gig bag. Thats a big benefit to me. So with that in mind, has anyone got both pedals which they've done a direct A/B comparison on audio quality specifically on the effects listed? From memory, Im sure they use even the same names for some of the amp sims so it would be good to know if the b3n edges it on sound quality. Cheers
  16. Surely aesthetics are important here,? Ampeg svt it has to be!
  17. One less thing to worry about. You get your sound directly to front of house. If the amp breaks, or even if you need to do some off the cuff eq changes mid set, it won't affect the foh. I know the Di from the amp could be pre eq, but still, i just like having no reliance on the amp, or my ability to change the settings quickly between tunes!
  18. Fingers crossed for you. Although they do say it up front about not insuring instruments, that should not include items which have just gone missing in their possession. Items that size don't fall down the back of the drivers seat. They get broke, or stolen out the system. If they say its lost and then claim its not insured as its an instrument, so you won't be getting any money from them, that's them complicit in theft in my opinion.
  19. I started cos my mates band when we were 15 needed a bassist. I can't remember having any interest in it prior to that, although I was playing other instruments.
  20. Not that I would, but 2k seems about right. Materials alone must've been £500. 2 days work perhaps?
  21. This one, unfortunately the guitars were not live - normally the singer plays the 2nd guitar part but to make sure we got a good vocal take, the guitarist just recorded the two parts. Everything else is done live though.
  22. Years ago I bought one of these off ebay for around 45 quid. It had that beat up vintage vibe I thought was cool. I didn't know it was short scale until I got the package! Why I thought it was full scale from the photos I've no idea, but I did! Sold it on for a few quid profit, but kinda wish I kept it!
