1. Lovely guitars that punch way above their price point.
 2.
Now then, now then!
Can you tell what it is yet?
 3.
£2K for a decent acoustic is probably quite reasonable. If it's handmade there'll be an awful lot of time and skill gone into it.
And compared to classical instruments that's a drop in the ocean, their 'quality' stuff is insanely expensive
 4.
I'd be interested to hear it... it's not quite P bass position is it. Have you played one with the pickup in that position?
No I haven't, but it looks similar to a Stingray's position.
 5.
The pickup looks to be in a bit of an odd place... I think if I was to have a single pickup Wal I'd want it in the proper bridge position like the later pro series second from right.
That's part of what attracts me to it.
 6.
Just a little shot of my modest collection... HA! YEAH, I WISH!!!!! This was from a "Wal Fest" gathering in 2006 in Woking... some fine instruments in that collection. Spot the double necked midi bass and the Pro IIE on which Too Shy was recorded!
I'd love the fretless on the chair in the back row.
 7. I went to try out a couple of Gretschs at Guitar Guitar today. Didn't really like the Electromatic centre block 5620, but the 5420 was very nice and right up my street. For 'due diligence' I tried an Epiphone Wildkat which was OK (lovely P90s, tonally at least), certainly nicer than the 5620 and under half the price. One of the guys there (Epsom) suggested the Epiphone Swingster. Wow! What a great guitar. The pickups are a bit naff to look at, but they sound really good, I prefer them to the Gretsch Blacktops and acoustically it was much louder and richer than the 5420 (the Epi had trestle bars and no sound post) and the Bigsby was way more responsive. I reckon one of those might be coming home to Ez Towers in the not too distant future.
 8. I never liked that body shape and Jack plug arrangement on a guitar, but as a bass it really works; who knew? Ibanez obviously. Crazy price too. Nice score.
 9. Electronic version, but I've seen it in the shops too.
 10.
Any Subscribers had the September Issue yet, I've not seen mine and wonder if it's out yet?
Yeah, it's got an article/interview with Mark King amongst others.
 11. I adore your build, finish and repair threads. Looking forward to this.
 12. He certainly has the vocal sound of MJ, but, to my ears, the backing is turgid electronica; no soul or funk. But this is what makes music interesting, in fact all art, just because one person finds it not to their liking, there will be plenty who do. However, I will never understand an unmade bed or a shark in formaldehyde.
 13. Our band use the Mackie/iPad combo and it's really good. Memorising levels and EQ for different venues, plus the ability to walk out FOH and mix from there if the PA is stage based. Tablet failure? Well anything can fail I guess, including a normal mixer, power amp, whatever, you just hope it doesn't.
 14.
Pump It Up by Elvis Costello & The Attractions.
Good call, I used to love playing that in my last band, that and Town Called Malice were both so much fun to play on my P bass. Currently I'm really liking Babooshka, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Died in Your Arms Tonight, in fact there aren't many songs in our set that I don't look forward to playing.
 15.
I think I'll go the Nitromors route
Patience is key when stripping right back. From start to knocking back the final finish should be at least a week, at least this is what I found.
 16. I had this problem with my old MM SUB and Fender Roadworn (on this the nitro was still sticky where it hadn't quite cured). Nitromors Professional, scrape that off, 0000 wire wool (cover the body in a bag as the 'wool' dust gets stuck to the p/ups) and then a light sealing with something like Danish Oil. Let that dry and knock it back a little bit with the 0000 gauge. Sorted.
 17. Nice. Isn't this the kind of thing Pino is playing these days?
 18.
Lovely Ezbass, lovely. What are you thinking of getting next? I seem to develop GAS for whatever you buy!!
I'd still love a Wal fretless, but current GAS is mainly in the 6 skinny string realm; P90 equipped Telecasters and Gretsch hollow bodies.
 19. My current weapons of choice: Rickenbacker 4003S Rob Allen MB2
 20.
whereas 'this seems to meet my requirements' can lead to buyer's regret!
Been there. The basses I have kept and enjoyed/enjoy the most are the ones that have 'spoken' to me when I picked them up despite them having apparent shortcomings. Others, which on the face of it, ticked all the boxes on my criteria list, failed to excite me and I never really bonded with.
 21. Thought I'd add something to this thread as I do like a double P. I added another p/up to a Roadworn I bought, now sold (I really can't remember why; GAS probably), sounded great IIRC. 22. This
Better gear doesn't neccessarily mean more expensive gear either, but the right gear for us as individuals, given playing styles,
23.
I have also noise with the cub alone...
I probably did too, but hadn't noticed it at lower volumes. I find the 300 delivers an even more 'accurate' delivery of instruments' different tones than the Cub (which is no slouch in this dept either). My Rickenbacker, P bass, Rob Allen and Ibanezes all sound very distinctly different, as they should. I also find the 300 good when used with a 'voiced' pre amp, I use a Tech21 VT pedal and it delivers the various characters of this effect very well.
 24.
Hi! Did anyone tried the PB300 paired with the Cub?
Yes, although I tend to just use a Bass Buddy as the amp currently (even less to cart around).
Is it loud? How's the sound?
Yes it's loud, I run mine just under half volume in a 5 piece rock/pop covers band, playing pubs and clubs. No problem being heard at all. The sound is very pure, more so than the Cub as a stand alone. When I first got the 300 I thought it was faulty because I could hear some fuzzy background noise. It turns out that my muting technique had got a bit sloppy and the 300 was not being as forgiving as my previous Mark Bass/Schroeder rig.
 25.
For those that might not have seen the NBD thread in the 'Bass Guitars' section, there's a clip of our very own Chris S playing this here
The knobs look decidedly smaller in that video; nice. Completely off topic: I've go those chairs in my kitchen
