1.
It's getting like being at work round here...
Looking at the interests in your avatar, I see you're in a field where there are two sides that butt heads regularly; that must be tough. I'm also guessing that witch burning is possibly ecologically unsound, so I retract the comment
 2.
, but I have too many basses
Burn him, he's a witch!
 3.
I have a fretless, but I am in a covers band, and they don't want to do japan or paul young
Find a new band! The 80s was rather fretless heavy, no wonder I love the music from that decade.
 4.
At a different time I would certainly be looking for one of these, although not at the moment as I have no fretless songs I am doing and trying to cut down on basses. But I think you have done the mods to it really well, it looks great
Thank you, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Not everyone's cup of tea, but completely reversible. I swing back and forth with selling any of my basses I have in the FS section at the moment, but ideally I'd just have the two that'll be left and play them exclusively; getting value for money and all that. No fretless songs? Get a fretless bass and they will come, to paraphrase Field of Dreams
 5. I like the way the retro vibe disguises the techno beast within. Good work sir.
 6. They are not making them with this finish anymore, so it's a collector's item now
 7. To remove the screw, I suggest drilling a hole into the screw and then knocking in a pointed file (or something similar). Once knocked in, use the implement to unscrew the offending stripped head screw. To fill the remaining hole, find a similarly sized piece of dowel, glue this in and level with the body. Finally, drill a normal hole for the new strap buttons.
 8. They should be used for firewood. Hang on, I appear to have walked into the wrong thread
 9. Pretty much what Dad said. A bit too 'wet' with reverb for my own personal taste which I think robs the low end of a little authority, but others may like that.
 10. That bass screams John Entwistle to me - fabulous looking thing and from the photo you seem to like it too. Congrats.
If I knew I actually had the skill to make it happen, the body would already be ordered!
The ability to use a screwdriver and a soldering iron is pretty much all you need. The body is just the initial stain, 3 coats of Danish oil and a couple of coats of wax. My 'skills' as a luthier are extremely limited/non existent, but that's the beauty of Leo's designs, bolt 'em together, fast and nasty
I like the colour.
Colour is obviously quite subjective, but it's nice that I'm not the only one who likes it.
 12.
I'm with Pete. I love Kotzen. He sounds like rock!!!
Yeah, top player, always has been. He's a Tele player, which is unusual amongst the shredmeisters and sets him apart (I do love a Telecaster).
 13. I saw him with Mr Big when he and Paul Gilbert were swapping runs just before the song. Billy was playing completely clean toned; lovely. Then he trod on a pedal and the grind took over; not nearly as nice to my ears. Others' appreciation will vary of course.
 14. Playing live has always been my ultimate goal and thus I've always gigged (never as much as I would like though). However, it ain't for everyone and when I have to pack up at the end of the night, get the gear in the car, drive home and then unpack it (again), normally in the wee small hours, the allure of being just a home/recording musician is tempting, especially if said gig has been a bit meh. If your playing gives you (and just you) pleasure then that's all good. If you feel the need to broadcast your talents to an audience (who will hopefully like it), then that's good too.
 15.
I like Billy's playing, but don't like his tone.
+1
Very nice but damn you for linking to that site! I'm now considering a new Jazzmaster body to do in a dark stain finish like the Elvis Costello model which I love the look of but in no way need.
Ah, the very essence of Basschat/Guitarchat. My work here is done
 17.
Sorry guys. . . . I misread the post. Didn't realise you were talking about 2 different things. I thought the second part was still referring to Bob Babbitt. Caught out by speed reading the thread. As you were, I know nothing about Wishbone Ash.
Ah, good to know. Right then, Rickenbacker it is. On the subject of the other guy, I've always though Bob Babbitt is underrated, always in the shadow of Jameson. But I think his repeating grooves and riffs are far more relevant to what most of us actually play today, unlike Jameson's (genius that he was) jazz inspired, melodic, sub-harmonies. To be clear - Jameson = bass god, Babbitt = also great, but underrated by comparison. One of the great bass tones for me Entwistle's playing on The Real Me. I've heard it isolated and it (to my ears) it doesn't sound the best, but in the whole recording context, a tone to die for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2h1MY70uag
 18.
It was a Precision.

Oh! I assumed it was a T-bird or Rick too... Gorgeous tone though, whatever it is
I was under the impression it was a Ric too. MT says he didn't like the sound of Fenders played with a pick (he says he tried a J early on). The book Blowin' Free lists the Ric as being used at the time of Pilgrimage. The Ric was replaced after it was damaged (neck break) by the T Bird (he borrowed Pete Watts' and liked it). I'd love to have my gear knowledge improved. What's the skinny on the P?
 19.
This by UK has always impressed the hell outa me. Amazing bass sound from Mr Wetton. http://youtu.be/kRkkJKf-hnA And this tone from Mr Lee is by far one of the finest sounds i've ever heard from a bass http://youtu.be/KGsQ5n9Qu0A Dave

How do you get the actual Youtube VID onto BC post. I can't seem to manage that. Dave
Remove the s from http
 20. Time to get all your Pre CBS GAS juices flowing again
 21. Their defrets are pretty awesome too. I had the defret my old MM USA SUB. They refilled the fret cuts with maple, removed the dots and filled them with rosewood so that they were almost invisible. A top job and nice chaps too.
 22. I have 5 basses. However, I'm trying to get that down to two; just need some buyers.
