Boz Burrell, Bad Company. It's not always about mwah, vibrato and big slides. It is sometimes, though and then you have Tony Franklin with The Firm, Blue Murder, etc.
Full disclosure, I'm a fretless fanboy.
I want to like The Smiths, Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke make a very good sound to my ears, but I just can’t abide Morrissey’s voice. I’ve tried, I’ve really tried, but I just can’t do it. I finally got over Geddy’s weird vocal style to the point where I’m a big Rush fan (especially their ‘80s & ‘90s output) but Morrissey can go and do one.
I’ve always favoured 45-100 as, to my mind at least, it brings more evenness in tone across the strings with the D&G being, on first glance, heavier in overall terms than the E&A. This may all be complete BS, but it’s how I thought about it when I first started out and I haven’t changed since then (except for strings that came with a bass or were free).
