1. They're my favourite band, based mostly on the five IRS albums, and Mike Mills is one of my musical templates as a bass player. If I didn't have them to "borrow" from I'd have written only about half of the songs we play. The mid period five albums clearly struck a chord worldwide and have some of their very best songs (Nightswimming, Find the River). I guess they just got bored after years of just playing the same instruments and songs and tried something different. For me, NAIH is their last great album. Once Bill Berry left though the heart seemed to go out of it. The last five albums are, to me, the five weakest. All have a few good songs on them but that's a poor return compared to the earlier stuff.
2. Supposedly Iggy Pop's China Girl isn't actually about heroin, as I'd assumed for many years, but a woman, Kuelan Nguyen.
3. At the risk of being controversial: I live five minutes walk from the Brickmakers but never, ever go there. Whilst it's great that they support live music, as a pub it's just awful (decor, beer etc). It's a shame as it wouldn't take much to make it a pleasant place to go.
4. I'd love to be able to claim a Gram Parsons/ Mike Mills style Nudie suit as stage wear, but the originals are a bit £££ and I've never seen a decent copy for sale
5. Nothing useful to add except another Seloc 👋
6. Both types, country and western
7. Please say you're in a Can tribute band
8. Not physical appearance, but early 90s, around 10am, I was walking round the house, wearing nothing but a Telecaster, and swigging from a bottle of spirits. I looked up to see the window cleaner staring in at me. I did the only thing I could in the situation: raised the bottle in greeting then wandered off. I like to think it looked pretty rock n roll
9. Hmm. "Naturesupplies are a online supplements shop who source only the best products from around the world to provide our customers a quality product at an affordable price." Doesn't exactly sound like a company in the bass cab market. If it sounds too good to be true...
10. Fender FSR 73 Jazz. Looks like a J, sounds like a P. Best of both worlds
11. Organisation. Oh, and a VW Passat estate
12. I mostly listen to jazz, opera and country. I confine myself to playing country. I'm definitely not good enough for the other two
13. Plus there's always the danger that the dep may be a better player or more fun to be around than me
14. Did you have any luck with this? I've considered doing the same thing but can't find anything
15. My avatar. The pic on the left is actually Winnie the Pooh. I don't look like him
16. I use a Fender PJ for country/country rock, with the P on about 80% and the J on 20-30% usually. Oh, and roundwounds.
17. Precision pickup from a 2013 Fender FSR JB75 PJ. Hopefully some pictures here: https://drive.google...YVA1Tm1Ka3VDNzg £30 + p&p
18.
...nothing is off limits, with the exception of The Laughing Gnome Actually, after this morning's band conversation, I don't think we will be doing She's Got Medals anytime soon either. Sorry Andy_L
I can picture the discussion: HKH - ...and some odd bloke on Basschat suggested She's Got Medals Rest of the Band (in unison) - F*** that
19.
Well, one of them pre-dates Medals We tried to get a date at Norwich Arts Centre and, well, it didn't work out too well
Ah, the NAC, my all-time favourite venue. Saw Nirvana there many, many years ago. I must at some point convince them of the need for some country in their schedule
20. Flummoxed by the unexpected absence of She's Got Medals in the options; ended up going for Young Americans
21. My old bass, served me well before Mart took it over
