  1. I've never played a forces venue, but I have jousted. I can confirm that no good came of it.
  2. Would love to do this but our singer is not convinced that his wife would appreciate it
  3. Let's just say that our singer is the best singer in the band
  4. I certainly get where you're coming from, but it does rely on the audience to give it some thought. We have a former drummer who is now on the sex offenders' register, and the singer is a teacher, so he's very conscious of these things. Even then, the protagonist does seem to be tempted: Get out of here Before I have the time To change my mind 'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far He's not ruling it out 100% perhaps
  5. Have never managed to persuade our singer to do Gary Puckett & the Union Gap's "Young Girl". There are a couple of dozen reasons in the lyrics I suspect...
  6. I know of some guys who have played as Geoff Leppard (rather than Jeff) in "tribute" to the patron saint of Lotus owners, Geoff Capes. I've toyed with forming a fake boy band called Westlike
  7. Shocked to discover that Genesis P-Orridge of Throbbing Gristle would have been known as Neil Megson by his mum.
  8. *** Pedantic bustard alert *** The Capt started life as Don Vliet and added the Van later Andy (aka Clint Thrust)
  9. Cheers, I think I'm heading down the Zoom route
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions folks 👍
  11. At the moment we record rehearsals using just a tablet with its in-built mic and the results aren't great, you'll be surprised to hear. What would you recommend to improve this? A usb mic looks the cheapest option, or go for a dedicated recorder? Thanks, Andy
  12. James at Nottingham Theatre Royal is the only gig I've ever left early. The realisation that I could just leave if I was bored was a eureka moment. It may have had something to do with it being the first gig for which I'd had to (irony alert) sit down rather than standing, which probably spoiled the atmosphere for me. Up until then I'd been a big fan.
  13. Yep, sorry 'bout that. I have a five string* if that's any good? *okay, it's a banjo
  14. Thanks Mods, I had a quick look but obviously not enough (y)
  15. Not sure I need 24 frets to be honest... It would complement my collection though.
  16. New models to celebrate 90 years. Oh my, the bass... https://www.instagram.com/p/CKRm2vbsqbm/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
  17. I tore the tendon of the ring finger of my fretting hand playing rugby many years ago, and have a cracking scar for my troubles. The finger in question got back about 80% of its movement and works well enough. My one piece of advice would be to work through all the physio you're prescribed and don't shirk it. It'll be worth it in the long run
  18. In no particular order: Stingray 4H in honeyburst Jack Casady in wine red Rickenbacker 4005 in fireglo
  19. Another vote for Beefheart: people seem to struggle with Trout Mask Replica in particular. On the jazz front: Ornette Coleman
  20. Mozart's Requiem Mass on the way in. Herb Alpert - Spanish Flea on the way out
