Bit of background: I've always had just one bass, but after it simply stopped working at a rehearsal on Sunday I'm going to get a backup. Most basses seem to come with roundwood strings, but I'll want to change these to flats as soon as possible. But which ones? I know the strings on my current bass are 45 - 105, but have no idea what make they are as they were already fitted when I got it. The silks are red but that's as much as I know. I'd happily get another set if I knew what they are. I did try a set of La Bella Deep Talking Flats, but they were very low tension and I didn't get on with them at all. They're still sitting around somewhere but I'd prefer not to use them. So, what would you recommend for a higher tension set of flats? It's for country rock on a precision. A while back someone put up for sale a Pelham blue Jack Casady, with a hard case and upgraded bridge. I think it even had flats, damnit. Perfect. I saw it and made a mental note to message the owner when I got home. In the intervening two hours of course it sold.

I've never played a forces venue, but I have jousted. I can confirm that no good came of it.

I certainly get where you're coming from, but it does rely on the audience to give it some thought. We have a former drummer who is now on the sex offenders' register, and the singer is a teacher, so he's very conscious of these things. Even then, the protagonist does seem to be tempted: Get out of here Before I have the time To change my mind 'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far He's not ruling it out 100% perhaps

Have never managed to persuade our singer to do Gary Puckett & the Union Gap's "Young Girl". There are a couple of dozen reasons in the lyrics I suspect...

I know of some guys who have played as Geoff Leppard (rather than Jeff) in "tribute" to the patron saint of Lotus owners, Geoff Capes. I've toyed with forming a fake boy band called Westlike

At the moment we record rehearsals using just a tablet with its in-built mic and the results aren't great, you'll be surprised to hear. What would you recommend to improve this? A usb mic looks the cheapest option, or go for a dedicated recorder? Thanks, Andy

James at Nottingham Theatre Royal is the only gig I've ever left early. The realisation that I could just leave if I was bored was a eureka moment. It may have had something to do with it being the first gig for which I'd had to (irony alert) sit down rather than standing, which probably spoiled the atmosphere for me. Up until then I'd been a big fan.
