1. Hmmm, sounds like a competition for next year - at some random point in time the competition is announced and you have to buy your kit from Thomann, Gear4Music or BYOGuitar, and once received you have a certain amount of time to put it together. Results are then put to the public vote. Obviously there would be different classes for the different makers/models. Just a thought. oh, by the way, the Carvin BK4 kit I bought years ago is still in a state of "will be looked at again at some point in the future" (actually, just got the body to finish/start - just waiting for nice weather to lacquer) .
2.
Paul says, "Argh! F***ing hell!". Pretty funny every time I hear it on the radio.
Yeah, always look forward to hearing it too. And I gather that the original cause of the F-Bomb was either John or George's earphones slipping off (tho I might be wrong on that)
3. I think the all time classic for having the "F-Bomb" in it is "Hey Jude", by that popular liverpool beat combo "The Beatles". in case you are wondering, it's at about 2.57 into the song.
4. if you are in San Diego, you could do a lot worse than visit the Carvin shop and factory. http://www.carvinguitars.com/locations/
5. Interesting minimalist concept for an egg slicer. http://www.ebay.co.u...g-/161513403054 Guess neck dive is a non optional extra!!
6. Ooh, very interesting. saw them live on the Spilt Milk tour - BRILLIANT. Love both the albums.
7. neither Neil Diamond nor Ali Campbell actually drink Red Wine as they find it gives them a headache Prince's father is Paul King. Yngwie Malmsteen changed his name from Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck following a bad rack of tiles at scrabble. Like others of their species, the band Jellyfish have self digested their brains. Morrisey likes a bacon sandwich.
8.
It is good, as is anything with Death (or Mort). In the same vein, Good Omens by Terry P and Neil Gaiman
A hearty +1 for Good Omens from me. In fact, just about anything by Pterry is going to be good (OK, not sure about "Dark Side of the Sun" nor "Strata"). My personal favourite is "Pyramids" If you dont mind being seen with kids books, I heartily recommend the "Bromeliad" trilogy (aka "Truckers", "Diggers" and "Wings")
9. Well, I have to say that I was blown away by the gig last night. OK, so there was a bit of a delay (err did I say bit? - it was 40 mins delay) just at the start of the first major set piece down to "technical problems". However, once this was resolved the full show went ahead. Just stunning. I don't care about what was left out; what was included was choreographed into the most technically challenging show I have ever seen. And when I say show, I mean that it was more like a west end production than a normal gig. Oh, and I have to say that the band were as tight as anything, but not over rehearsed. Cannot wait for the CD/DVD (they are going to be recording 3 nights of the residency - that's my crimbo pressie to myself sorted!!)
10.
When you tell it to rout out something like the electronics cavity or the cavity for the pickup selector switch you're telling it to create a hole. I suppose you could create a hole/channel that's effectively defining the outline of the body... so with the model, create the outline of the body, duplicate that outline but increased in size by 5% and then get the router to take material out from there only?
sounds a lot simpler than my thoughts on things, which would be to re-define the area of material being removed so you are not wasting time removing material from the square corners. Fab lab sounds a fair bit like the various hack spaces that sprung up around the place a couple of years ago - think my local fab lab is Keighley. Must make enquiries.
11. Am off to see her next Wed. From what I have heard, she is doing things "on Her terms", and I am more than happy for her to do this.
12. meh - she could have done with a load of rosin on that bow - it was slipping and sliding all over the strings instead of gripping them.
13. Funnily enough, I was watching a Tanglewood EB-18 "Elfin Bass" on flea-bay over the weekend - would have got it too if the better half had not decided that my time was better spent shopping than being on the interweb!!
14. There is also Dave Mann Music on Mansfield Rd for your higher(ish) end stuff.
15. Rush and Rammstein are the only 2 major bands I can think of that I would like to see there.
16. gets creepier the further down the page you go!!
17. have to agree, Francis is a brilliant musician, and when on form does a stunning show. However, he does occasionally get ideas well above his station, and he can also be a right moody so-and-so!!
18.
How did the fan club mailing list folk get on with ticket buying this morning?
SheWhoThinksSheIsBeingListenedTo got on OK with the presale today, and we managed to get tickets for the date we wanted. Apparently the only problems that people had were with the "Visa" verification system being slow to load at times - the presale page had an automatic timeout of 5 minutes or so, and there were a couple of complaints of things being slow and people not getting the tickets. Wonder if that will be a problem on fri morning when it gets busy. Oh, I see there are another 7 dates added. - guess it will now take 35 seconds to sell out instead of 30 seconds.
19.
I have my booking code for Wednesday's advanced ticket sale (coincidentally, it's also my birthday that day, so happy birthday to me!) and am hoping for four tickets
Woo hoo!! just checked my junk mail folder and have a pre-sale link and code. Have actually forgotten that I had subscribed many years ago. gonna be chaotic on wed morning!!
20. guess this will break all records for selling out. I know I am going to be trying to get tickets. Just wish was more of a national tour.
21. Yup. the Haim bassface is there!!! Still not a patch on Gary Moore's guitar faces tho!!!
22. Hmmm, the effect of gravity on a string could be fairly easily measured here on earth - all you need to do is set up two experiments in places where gravity is different, where a string on a bass is plucked and then sustain etc analysed. Of course, one experiment should be at as low an altitude as possible, say the shore of the Dead Sea in Jordan (or, if your budget stretches to it, Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench) The other should be at as high an altitude as possible - the top of Everest is the obvious place that springs to mind. Other equipment needed would be a plucking device (need to be able to repeat/replicate the experiment accurately), some sort of protective casing to ensure other environmental variables (temp, humidity, external vibration etc) are identical and some sort of software to analyse output. Hmmm, looks like I might have suggested a thesis for a student there!!
