1. Right, now I`m on the right thread, think I`ll add "hang on a sec, the neck was sub standard so it wasnt stamped, the body was also sub standard and wasnt stamped, and the pots were also sub standard and weren`t... oh, you know the rest!!! yet they STILL put a serial number on the neckplate?? nothing wrong with that. In fact, as anyone who has ever owned a mid 70`s Leyland car will verify, it`s perfectly normal!!"

In fact, as anyone who has ever owned a mid 70`s Leyland car will verify, it`s perfectly normal!![/s] ERRR, HOW THE HELL DID THIS END UP ON THIS THREAD??
 3. Watched the programme a couple of weeks ago - I think that it`s a shame they totally dismissed the last couple of albums ("Renegade" and "Thunder and Lightning") as not being `Lizzy. That`s the era that some of us discovered the band.
 4. I think it`s a case of you get what you pay for - as an example you can pay £80 or so for a Thomann kit, or a couple of hundred quid for a Carvin Kit. Of course, you could go for a total component based bass from Warmoth, and spend a flaming fortune!!!
 5. I`m another one who has their tongue just poking out of the corner of their mouth (always on the left). I found practicing in front of a mirror helped cut down the amount my tongue was poking out as I became very self conscious - problem then was I concentrated on my tongue, not my playing, and hit so many bum notes it was unbelieveable. Sort of reached a compromise with myself now.
 6.
Does anyone have any info on the bass/effect used in this track ?
All I can really say about Ross Valory`s effects can be summed up by
One of the innovations that Valory uses (it is not known if he is the inventor) is to string a four-string bass with the bottom four strings of a 5-string set. Thus, instead of the usual E-A-D-G arrangement, his bass is strung as B-E-A-D. This adds the five string depth to the songs, while allowing the quick fingering of a four-string neck.
found that on wiki, so not sure about it`s authenticity or accuracy hope that helps
 7.
looks like one of the Carvin DIY jobs. IIRC they were like IKEA furniture, came flat packed and you assembled them yourself. They were meant to be pretty good.
Errr, yeah, I stood corrected - it IS a Carvin BK4 kit (lack of headstock decal gives it away)
 8. Nice Carvin B4 HERE frankly, I could see this going for 5 or 6 hundred bucks at the end of the day.
 9. Doesnt the "Webright" stamp on the neck pertain to early/mid 70`s necks?
 10. Doesnt he also play a tenor guitar?
 11. Some pretty instruments HERE Sorry if it`s the wrong forum!!
 12.
Here it is. Anyone know what the body is made of? It wasn't mentioned anywhere in the posting. Edit: oh, and scroll down to the "Is there a fretless version?" question. The answer may surprise you. 13. Ooh, just seen this - I`ll try to come along this time.
 14.
Doing my usual trawl through the bass forums, I found this and it reminded me of the Spoombung bass. Couldn't save the picture though http://www.ledbellibass.com/2008%20Gallery.htm
15.
I put together this Warmoth.....
Ooh, that`s nice. Amazingly, I`ve only just today seen this thread, but yesterday I dug out the Carvin Kit that`s been sat under my bed for the best part of 12 months and made a start on the neck.
 16. Gonna stick my 2 pennyworth in here and say Glenn Hughes.
 17. Yeah, I`m a member there, but the only forum I really visit is the Luthiers one. Even then I`m getting a little peeved at their attitude of "You cant be a Luthier unless you have graduated from Luthier school"
 18.
Mines a quality '59, but to be honest no mattter what I do, the noise that comes out of it sometimes is just not good. I have no idea what im doing wrong.
I have a similar problem at the moment with my `65, but I`ve figured out what I`m doing wrong - BLOODY EVERYTHING according to her!!
 19. I actually like the styling of the cut-outs. at least they follow the curves/shape of the body, which is more than some I`ve seen.
 20.
+1 What was the BIN? I sold my LB75P (HB & J at the neck) on here for £399.99. Fantastic instruments, but I needed the money -1 never had probs with mine, they even sounded good passive.
BIN was 450 Someone got a hell of a bargain there
 21. Nice Carvin XB75P(??) Here The BIN price is about right, but only because he`s chucking in a hard case.
 22. Yup, that`s pretty. Well done that man
 23.
A "rainmaker"?
Yeah, it`s filled with tiny beabs/beans; as you invert it they all fall down to the bottom over internal baffles or something and it sounds like falling rain.
 24. Ewww!! There again, I think the important line in the description is Model: StingRay 5 Size: 13-3/8" wide, 1-3/4" thick, 45-3/4" long (34.0 cm wide, 4.5 cm thick, 116.2 cm long) Weight: 10 lbs (4.54 kg) - varies slightly Body Wood: Ash and so on... Just how does he manage to get the weight of the thing to change??
 25.
I`m the third owner of a shortscale `65 of unknown origin; a bit of an enigma as she`s not a jazz and certainly not precision. She`s due for some cosmetic work to the body soon (a problem with one of the curves on the body), and hopefully this will suit us both. Soundwise, she has a tendancy to be very loud, and emits a horrible whining noise when ignored for more than 10 minutes (less than 10 minutes if I`m seen eyeing up newer models).
Got mine back from the workshop now - was a bit inconvenient as she was originally in for 5 days, then out for a couple, then back in the bodyshop for another 10. HOWEVER, I`m more than happy about the quality of work done; OK, so they recycled 100% but they`ve taken and used bits from a normally unseen area so it`s not really noticable. Just a little more bodywork to be scheduled for a couple of months time, but that should only take an hour or so. Still has a tendancy to whine a lot tho`.
